No Beretta 92 FS Allowed

This is the new sign the State Police are making available on-line for businesses to post banning handguns on the premises:

  • With some businesses eager to let people know guns aren’t welcome, the Illinois State Police on Friday released the official sign to indicate a concealed carry ban.

Businesses can download the state-approved sign for banning concealed carry on the Illinois State Police Web site.
We read this as all Beretta 92FS weapons are banned. So if you carry a Glock, Smith and Wesson, Ruger, Sig, or other handgun, you ought to be fine.

Does this include off duty Police officers? I think it does because Cellular Field and The United Center are not allowing off duties to carry inside. I believe that any private property owner can refuse off duty armed officers admittance if they choose. Don't get caught in the switches and start an argument over this. With Rahm as mayor you will lose.

Do these signs carry weight of law? In Iowa, the posted stores employee can ask you to leave. If you refuse, they can call the PD and they will ask you to leave. LEOSA does NOT supersede state law, therefore these signs have force of law against anyone EXCEPT ON-DUTY law enforcement officers. Off duty, retired, out-of-state LEOs must follow these signs.

Prior to the establishment of these signs, we were allowed to carry anywhere off duty. Now that we have these signs, we are restricted. In essence, we are in the same "fight" as our ccw "brothers" for freedom to carry. States such as MO do NOT recognize these signs do they may carry in most places.

When you are ON DUTY, remind the store owners that after you end your shift, you would no longer be allowed in their store due to the sign. Lets change some hearts and minds!

Retired officers covered under federal law have to abide by these signs. Unlike Prior to the CCW law where there were no "banned areas" the federal law says that retired officers carrying under LEOSA must conform to state laws.

So prior to Illinois CCW you could have carried into a bar or bank, etc.

After... you must abide by the banned places and these signs.

So the NFL does not want Off Duty Police Officers to carry their concealed weapons into their stadiums.

Well “F” Them.

Why waste the kind of money they want for tickets and $12 beers to watch millionaires play a game of pile 'em up.

A home or club party with lots of tailgate food and open bar and the bathroom right there is so much better.

So "F" the NFL management. Let's get all the season tickets and distribute them to poor Westside and Southside Folks and People. Then watch the fun as they rip each other apart in the stands.

Then maybe the NFL will think differently.

Texas had the same law where you couldn't conceal and carry decades ago when the shooting incident at Luby's restaurant occurred. A woman who had survived the incident gave an incredible speech to the state legislature in hearings that were held to propose a change in that law. She gave a memorable account of what happened that day when she went to have lunch with her parents there, including witnessing the horrific murder of both her parents. She made the point of telling the senators that she lawfully owned a weapon on the day of the shooting, however left it secured in her vehicle because it was illegal to carry it on her person. Her story was so compelling and it was heart wrenching to see her anger with herself and lawmakers for abiding by a law which tied her hands and could have made the difference in not only her parents' murder, but the others who were executed that day. Businesses are doing a huge disservice and creating a haven for criminals by posting these signs. We, the lawful citizens of this city, do not have the luxury of armed police escorts 24/7 like our mayors, both current and former. Each of us is responsible for our own safety and wellbeing, and any business that does not support that is not getting my or my family's money.

10/12/2013 03:39:00 PM

No particular gun is banned. All firearms are banned in the business that displays the sign. By posting the sign, the business is protecting against civil liability if an incident happens on site involving the use of a handgun. Po's and retiree's.... better to get caught with it than without it.....

What it means for off duty officers is to take care of yourself only in the event of an armed robbery or other shooting incident inside that particular business establishment. Stay safe and upon the end of said incident, to fulfill your legal requirement to take police action, be sure to call 911 to report the event. After it is all over and after you are safe.

As for retired officers, you have to follow the laws of the state you are in. This dipshit sign might not mean it is illegal to carry concealed, it just means they want to kiss the shitty ass of the anti-gun pussys who find guns repulsive. Political correctness that guarantees only a criminal bent on mayhem may enter with a loaded weapon hidden on their person. May the politically correct cowardly gunophobes be the first to catch lead.

It may not carry the force of law, it is just a piece of paper, but retired law enforcement does not have the same weapon carrying privileges as active law enforcement. There are places where weapons are prohibited under state law. HR218 does not trump that. HR218 states local laws must be followed.

You can test that by going in to the Federal Building carrying concealed and telling them you are retired law enforcement therefore they cannot arrest you.

It does at Soldiers Field. The Nation that is the NFL made it illegal for any Off Duty Police to carry a fire arm at their games.

I didnt say anything cause the loser actually missed the .380 I had in my pocket and I didnt feel like walking back to the car with it.

Gun free zones = kill zone. Easy pickings for any loony off the rails. Google Lubys,Texas restaurant shooting. Practically the birth of concealed carry, then maybe Miami back in the late 80s when Florida started concealed carry to protect cabbies from stick up. The cabbies started shooting back !

Think it was Detroit not long ago, maybe a Coney Island, where an armed robber came in, put a gun to the cashier's head and a patron shot the guy with the gun before he could shoot the clerk.

Advertising you don't allow legal concealed carry invites armed robberies. Why not lay out a red carpet with arrows to the safe and cash registers?

I guarantee you, as an off-duty (or on-duty) I will never patronize any establishment with that sign. Wonder if it will have a negative or positive effect on their numbers? Will be interesting to watch. All of a sudden owner's convictions may change if their cash receipts are afffected!

"Keep Calm and Carry"

Better sign: "For the safety of or staff and patrons one or more of our employees may be carrying a concealed firearm."

10/12/2013 12:05:00 PM

THAT is an EXCELLENT idea!!!!!

Except add 'a person(s) that may be acting as patron(s),

The most they can do if they catch a concealed carry permit holder in their restaurant is ask them to leave. You cannot get arrested! Just carry it.

Why don't you be the test case? Try it out and report back to us.

Eat your meal, then let them 'accidentally' see your weapon and throw you out....before you have a chance to pay....free meal.

An unintended consequence to consider.
Leo/non leo. Pro/con on CCW.
Gun owner or not and regardless if you would ever leave a weapon in an unattended vehicle.
Once this policy becomes common, if you use valet parking the attendants will have another large incentive to riffle through your vehicle's contents in your absence.

Wow! A lot of misinformation posted here. Hopefully, not by active police officers. Know the law whether you are active or retired if you plan on carrying concealed .

I really don't think that many eating establishments will post this sign. Maybe the liberal joints in Hyde Park or Rodgers park.If they do, it will look pretty tacky on the front door. I recall when I was in Fayetteville, NC while at Fort Bragg. Some of the establishments had signs posted on the front door that if you are a robber you will be shot dead by armed employees. No mention of patrons not carrying concealed. Scared the shit out of me.

10/12/2013 5:57 am You are full of shit and are anti-gun and would probably piss in your pants if you had to shoot some jagoff that was jacking you. Dont compare travon/zimmerman to anything remotely resembling off duty or retired PO's carrying in a restaurant. Read the fucking law before vomiting your bullshit. This federal law(HR 218) supercedes state law otherwise each state could just say fuck it we wont allow concealed carry for retirees. Another ill informed douche bag....maybe even a police officer.

Fuck the NFL- why would you bother giving an organization that pays millions to a bunch of thug looking tatted up CB numbers any business? They allow criminals to play pro ball while telling officers they are not welcome in their venue if they carry. Fuck them and their ghetto players.

Isn't Beretta's 92 a registered trademark silhouette?

If so Beretta ought to sue them. Yea Chicago needs another lawsuit.

And I am sure there are plenty of lawyers just waiting in line to get the job.

Here in Texas you have to have the proper CHL sign to bar CHL holders. If it is not the right wording or letter size it is invalid.

Most companies won't post them cause alot of Texas pack and they will take their business, and $$$, elsewhere.

(430 ILCS 66/65)
Sec. 65. Prohibited areas.
(a) A licensee under this Act shall not knowingly carry a firearm on or into: etc......

Please read the law. It clearly states that "A LICENSEE UNDER THIS ACT shall not etc...

Police Officers and Retired H.R. 218 permit holders are NOT "Licensees under this Act" therefore the prohibitions enumerated in the Act do not apply.

What about on duty plain clothes guys like tac, gangs, narcotics, detective div they like donuts too! How is a restaurant owner to know which is which on duty or off duty. Or maybe cops working and retired should just take there business elsewhere to a business that did not post that silly sign.

It's pretty silly for a restaurant to put this up, but it makes good sense for a bar. I don't care if you are a LEO, you are not immune to the effects of alcohol on the decision-making process. I don't want you drinking and armed.

Oh, naïve one. Cops have been carrying, in bars, forever. Yet, somehow, cops don't kill other people (no matter how deserving, but I digress) in bars on a nightly, weekly, or even yearly basis.
I spent an entire career carrying in bars and restaurants, sometimes drinking, sometimes not. (And I really don't care WHAT you 'want' me to do or not.)
I wasn't raised to believe a gun is the way you settle a disagreement and those kind of standards don't get compromised just because you've had a drink.
