Rule #7

We have a couple basic rules on the right hand column - 9 actually if you include Rule #0.

We had a spate of violators regarding Rules 6 and 7 yesterday, specifically directed at the "Hey Look - A Quota" posting.  If you read the post, you can probably guess which way they were headed.

We don't really care what point you're trying to make - if it includes the phrase "...if you don't like it, quit," or something similar and we manage to catch it, it's getting flushed, no matter what else you might have to say. No one is going to voluntarily leave the job because you tell them to, especially if they've committed a sizable portion of their working life to the job and regardless of what imagined offense they've committed in your eyes.

Cops bitch about the job. They have since the beginning of time. Prehistoric officers were writing on cave walls with charcoal sticks. The bitched during the Dark Ages and they complained during the Enlightenment. They've been doing it here in Chicago since forever and have gone through a few underground publications (The Gallows) and a few websites (Second City Cop Network, Shaved, SCC).

Instead of calling everyone "crybabies," how about a few creative responses, putdowns or sarcastic comebacks to illustrate the futility of pleasing everyone all the time and just dealing with the shit sandwiches we're getting served all the time? It'd make for more interesting reading and you might actually see what you wrote making it past the screening process.

Rule #0.1 should be the Masters addendum! Masters x 3
Rule #0.2 could be Mrs. Mayor addendum 2.

Great reply, SCC. My guess is that most who leave posts like that are bosses and P/Os who have been taken care of their whole careers. They really don't have to deal with all the BS the city and the mutts dish out. I have seen numerous times in my 20 plus years bosses and P/Os who don't work beat cars, who have cush spots, and who are taken care of tell everyone that will listen what a great job this is. Come work a beat car for a year and then talk to me.

That was 1987. I know the officers today should be informed of the outrages of years past. And what you say is true, all of it. Too bad nothing can be done now and all anyone is likely to do about it is laugh and chuckle because they did steal many promotions.

Sort of like the quote in Chicago about elections and why the Democrats always steal them, "Elections are much too important to simply leave for the voters to decide."

Same with promotions, too important to leave to mere test results. Then, by time they had a semi-legit sergeant test I was too disgusted to bother taking it. This city and police department took the starch out of many a police career and turned the police department into just someplace where you went to collect a paycheck.

I'm sorry you and so many others got fucked John. Too bad there was never any proper recourse, lawsuit, armed violence etc.

Most of those who got screwed in that exam are retired now. Some are deceased. Many still remember. And little midget prick Daley is living like a king with his new chocolate girlfriend.

Doesn't seem fair.

OFF Topic: The other day I received a letter from Rahm, hoping that I am enjoying retirement. He than informed me that he is going to give me my Christmas present starting 1 Jan 14. He is going to raise the premium on my Health Insurance for me and my wife, not by 3 or 5 or maybe 10 %. No he is raising my premium by 50%, he states that it is necessary, because he needs to protect taxpayers from us evil retirees who cost the city so much! The other day, while speaking to a friend, he stated " Well we all are hurting and sacrifices must be made" Yeah I guess so, but than again I told him. You weren't the guy running into the projects at 3 in the morning looking for that man with a gun! Now that I am retired with a broken body, after serving you honorably. My wife and I will end up on Obamacare being lost in paperwork and than dying because we will not receive the treatment that we need! I guess being a Good honest Cop didn't mean shit for all those years!!!!!

Off Topic ,but I just heard from a retired friend that he received a letter from jerk-off Rham, that his Health Insurance was going to Skyrocket as of the 1st of next year!Despite litigation pending, Rat F**k Rham is pushing ahead with this plan!He is now going to stick it to Retired officers who have been gone 10yrs! As anyone knows, he is trying to screw with our Pensions already and for a topper, I think the active P.O.'s will have their contract negotiations dragged out for a few more years and get screwed in the outcome. Has any one with 10 or more yrs on ever seen such a lowlife scum sucking F**k weasel such as this ? I think not.

Gotta love the newest so called leadership on this dept. The old generation is gone and the new, well, it's bad, very bad. Double, triple, plus merit promotees have finally been elevated to the highest ranks of the dept. and we are seeing what the result is. No leadership, timidness, lying morality, hypocrisy, and ultimately decay followed by total breakdown. What exactly is Doug your job? Well to sum it up, locking up bad guys, and preventive patrol. You know the very presence of police ideally will drive the bad guy elsewhere. Well tha twas then this is now. Ever look at the GO's, the SO's, and all the rest. These basically are what police work is now, bureaucratic rules that basically tie your hands to do the basics, lock up bad guys. Top it off with IPRA who will fire you any chance they get, the frivolous lawsuits, and the lack off accountability with the exempts but the over zealousness of holding officers accountable for things outside of their control. And of course the dept.'s attitude that it's "earned not given".
Is it really any wonder that officers go out on their tour to essentially survive the forces that can lead them to loosing their jobs let alone locking up bad guys. The primary focus of officers today is job survival, being gun shy of doing what used to be considered police work for fear of loosing their employment. So what happens to policing, it becomes de-policing. It shouldn't take a genius to figure it out. When you hold officers to a set of rules that are not enforced on all, then you have what we now have, de-policing, responding to jobs, give rd#, drive away, watch out for racialprofiling. After all, how many officers get fired for doing the basics, answer radio, write a Parker, give report, move along, go in for checkoff?

I believe you are missing Northside's point. The City is still doing the same damn thing--bosses picking their clouted favorites for promotion.

In EXAMSCAM, they rigged the so-called oral boards. Today, the bosses do the same thing and they have the gall to call it "MERIT".

"MERIT" = CLOUT = PATRONAGE

CPD "merit" is anything but what's defined as such in a dictionary. It's nepotism, cronyism, bribery and sexual favors. Outstanding police work, leadership qualities and intelligence are merely coincidental, even meaningless.

Even when they give objective multiple choice exams, they refuse to use Scantron for immediate scoring.

Has the city ever defined their perverted version of the word "merit"? No? WHY?

I've been around for a long time... Back then it was bitching... These days it's flat out crying and whining by guys who think they are entitled to everything and above having to work. To the young kids out there.. It's not "cool" to be a dog. Guys with 25 plus years have done this crap for a long time.. If you've only done it for 7 or 8 years u better still be smiling everyday at roll call.. Your too young to be bitter yet

Just make this job work for you. When it suits you, do extra work. If not, answer your calls. Despite the things we complain about, every one of us started this job the same way: by taking an oath to enforce the law and help people (or something like that).

I recognized a few years ago that all the complaining I did really did not make the situation better. Albert Einstein is credited with defining "insanity" as doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

Complaining seems to be the thing that keeps us divided, and at times it unites us, like it does oftentimes, thanks to this blog, by keeping us engaged in sometimes useful and helpful dialogue.

At the end of the day, remember that we police officers do a very useful and important job in society. But make the job work for you, instead of working for the job.

And always watch their hands. And Be Safe.

What I dont understand about cops is: why did you pick that career field? Not that job, but that career!? Its not like you work at mcdonalds or a car wash lol you decided that for the rest of your working years you wanted to be a cop... In a city known to be corrupt... Even before a study came out saying we are first in corruption throughout US cities. I never hear of a doctor bitching about his/her job everyday. The excuse that "we're cops, we complain about our work" is lame. You picked that field no one forced you to become a officer, man up & deal with it. You dont like change? Idk what to tell you. Its a big city, things don't sit still forever.

But bitching and complaining about your boss is another thing :)

Yes, true enough. But, people tend to forget that history repeats itself. These past tragedies that ruined the careers of good cops will be repeated if they are forgotten and forgotten is what the political class wants.

9:07 PM has got it right.

While there might be a few amadans among us, certainly most must realize that undefined CPD "merit" promotions are nothing more than a sanitized version of in-your-face ExamScam. BOGUS!

10:46 PM:

How dare you, you sanctimonious prick. I'm not alone in describing police work as a most noble of callings; not just a mere "job". We protect defenseless innocents against the predators. We are the sheepdogs fighting off the wolves to protect our flock. We want to be respected as professionals without filthy politicians and their hacks destroying our proud calling.

The best and the brightest. "Chicago's Finest"--and damn proud of it.

If I were still active, I'd have to endure your aggravation. I'm retired. Fuck you!

Your only cogent comment is that you are aware that Chicago is the most politically corrupt major city in the nation. No shit! We must change this demoralizing cancer and restore honor, integrity and pride to the CPD.
