- Family members of the two masked men shot to death after allegedly robbing a store in Reading spoke out Tuesday.
"It's not fair," said Virginia Medina, mother of 24-year-old William Medina, who police said robbed Krick's Korner store alongside 18-year-old Robert De Carr on Monday.
The two men were shot and killed by a private citizen while leaving the store, and family members want to see charges pressed.
"[William] had no right to lose his life over something that man could have called the police for," said Medina. "He took the law into his own hands and walked away scot-free."
"How about if people just start running around here, policing the city on their own? How much worse is it going to get?" said Peter Ratel, Medina's cousin.
The family members said they are hurt by comments suggesting the alleged robbers were "thugs."
According to Medina, William was "no big hard criminal" and was rather a family-man who loved his young daughter.
Robert De Carr was described similarly by his sister, Taylor De Carr.
"My brother was a good kid," she told 69 News.

Two men, both armed with guns and wearing masks, had just left the store with stolen cigarettes and lottery tickets when they were confronted by the "concerned citizen," telling both suspects that he was going to call police and advising them to stay where they were, said Berks County District Attorney John Adams.
A brief scuffle ensued, during which the suspects pulled out their guns, Adams said. The citizen then pulled out his gun, for which he had a license to carry, and shot both suspects, said Adams, who personally reviewed surveillance video of the scene.
"It is unusual, but it's certainly not unheard of," said Chief Bill Heim, Reading Police Dept. "We've had several occasions over the past few years where citizens have been in such situations."
The man who fired the shots remained on the scene and surrendered his gun when officers arrived, said Adams, adding that he doesn't expect to file criminal charges because it appears the man "acted justifiably under the law."
Concealed Carry comes to Illinois next year. Will McJersey be prepared to issue similar statements sympathetic to the Armed Citizen?

But, if a private citizen wants to carry a handgun, they better have insurance because they will be sued . The mentality of the women in this case tells you that will happen. Two armed robbers of a Reading convenience store were shot to death Monday afternoon by a "concerned citizen" who acted justifiably, Berks County District Attorney John T. Adams said.
The masked men had robbed the Krick's Korner store at Ninth and Exeter streets around 2 p.m. when they ran into a man who saw what they had done and shot them, Adams said at an evening news conference.
"The shooter was very cooperative," Adams said. "He had a license to carry a firearm and he has been released. I think this is an incident where a concerned citizen acted justifiably."
The robbers briefly pointed their handguns at the man, who shot them as they fled from the store, he said.
The robbers, who stole lottery tickets and cigarettes, died outside in the street, one in front of the store, the other a short distance south on North Ninth Street, he said.
Adams said investigators examined video of the shooting, talked with witnesses, including a woman in the store, and concluded the shooter acted lawfully.

READING, Pa. - Cell phone video obtained by 69 News sheds some light on the shooting of two robbery suspects in Reading on Monday.
The video was taken by a witness at the scene outside Krick's Korner store, 1671 N. 9th St., providing an angle that investigators, who watched surveillance video frame by frame, hadn't seen before Wednesday.
District Attorney John Adams said the video further proves the shooting of the two suspects by a "concerned citizen" was justified, showing the gun still in his right hand.
"It corroborates the fact this shooting was justified," Adams said. "The concerned citizen stayed at the scene until police arrived."
69 News showed the video to the district attorney. He said the man acted responsibly when William Medina, 24, and Robert De Carr, 18, burst into the store with masks and guns and terrorized employees.
"He acted as any law-abiding citizen would," Adams said.
Police said the man witnessed the robbery and met the two men when they walked outside. He told them not to move, he was calling police, but a struggle ensued and police said when he was threatened, he shot them both in the chest.
The suspects' alleged partner in crime, Alexander Garcia-Bialek, 21, has been coined the getaway driver. Now he's facing 2nd degree murder charges.
Days later, the concerned citizen is still not talking publicly, fearing for his life.
"Had he not acted in the manner that he did, he himself most likely would have been a victim," Adams said.
The DA said the man handed over his gun, his license to carry and his holster when police arrived. Officers were in contact with him again Wednesday. They said he's doing well, but still going through a very tough time.
Adams also revealed Wednesday that the guns the two men had when they were killed were stolen, but he wouldn't say from where they were taken.
Also, a memorial set up outside Krick's Korner store for the two men who were shot has been moved. Family members said police told them to move it overnight.
The candles, signs and teddy bears stirred up a bit of controversy. Many were upset that the memorial was put there because the men who died were accused of robbing the store.
Good thing Alverez isn't SA in PA. That brave, law abiding, trash-taking out citizen would be in no bonded county.
What is the SA going to do when this starts happening here? It will eventually.

A big part of the problem is that part of the ghetto mentality is that nothing is really wrong. They can point to the politicians that do sh!t and get away with it, so they feel that they should be able to do anything without adverse consequences.

The one part of stories like this that always gives me a heart-warming chuckle is that when the police arrest the other offender, like the get-away driver, and charge him for the deaths of his compatriots.
Sitting in the car, not having the stones to go in, waiting for their return.
Now looking at spending a big chunk of his adult life in prison. And he didn't even get to smoke one of the cigarettes or scratch one of the lottery tickets.

I wonder how many times, while growing up, each of those thugs got into trouble, and how many times the parents said, "Not my kid". I would bet it was always someone else's fault. Well, parents, it is your fault that your kids turned into thugs, and your fault that they are now dead. I was visiting my 83 year old mother today and she said she had a great idea of how to protect yourself against these "honor students".. get some of that Rooster sauce(aka Sriracha)and thin it out a little. And on another note: after driving back from the suburbs and sitting at Chicago and Superior waiting to turn so I can enter my parking garage I saw such a motley assortment of dangerous looking people. Years ago in the late 80's, early 90's (when dinosaurs roamed the earth to some of you) I walked from my condo in Streeterville all the way to the end of the loop and back every day for work. I never ONCE had a problem. Strange how in such a short time it's become such a hell hole. Stay safe all you LE and protect yourselves first!

Everyone's asking how McCarthy is going to deal with situations like this. How is Chicago going to deal with some idiot who assumes that because he got punched in the face he can shoot the whole street up? How is Chicago going to deal with law abiding citizens being shot down? The law abiding citizen will not always win. 9 times out of ten if this happened in Chicago with our breed of criminals you'd have a dead law abiding citizen on your hands for getting in the way. I'm all for concealed carry and will be a proud gun carrying citizen next year and if I just so happen to stumble upon a armed robbery of a store I'm calling the police. I don't want my like taken and I don't want to take a life, scum or not, but I will if I'm in immediate danger. Not trying to down talk anyone who has the gull to jump in front of two robbers, but I have a family and at least 60 more years on this earth and I plan on spending them 1) alive & 2) sane .

Yes, I am sure these type of incidents will occur in Illinois once concealed carry is in effect. But, if a private citizen wants to carry a handgun, they better have insurance because they will be sued . The mentality of the women in this case tells you that will happen. And, don't expect a sliver of consideration from McCarthy or the states attorney in any of these matters. Unless you are 100% correct in what you do an indictment probably will follow. This is Illinois, after all. A bankrupt state that is only concerned in allowing marijuana, gay marriage and spending money.
