Part One "Estimated" Scores

Curiosity driving this post. We've seen the supposed answer key floating around here and there and at least one version made it's way into our comment section in the post titled "Exam Results Coming 20 December."

Assuming it's mostly accurate, what did everyone get? We're hearing a lot of scores running from 77 to 85 or so. We're going to take a wild guess and say that based on our unscientific sampling, passing is going to be in the mid-to-high 50's....call it 57 or 58. Again, this is a guess on our part.

So what has everyone else been hearing? Post your estimated score anonymously and we'll see if the sampling holds up. We've got nothing else to look forward to until January on the testing front anyway.

If this test is anything like the others, the first qualifying part of the process will be quite easy.

The minimum passing score will be the score of the lowest clouted merit candidate.

Separate the wheat from the (unclouted) chaff in the second part.

"So what has everyone else been hearing?"

A lot of whining on how "hard" the test was from those who 1) admitted to not cracking order the first or 2) tried to cram the night before.

To those that fit either category, great news: the mean passing score usually hovers right around that of the dumbest pincushion polishing a helmet attached to a CPD Subject Matter "Expert". We musn't forget to factor in those that are placated before they even have a chance to play the Race Card (or whatever today's excuse is for doing poorly). What's all this mean? Means even your lazy asses should likely trudge onto Part 2. Congratulations!

Now for the buzzkill...

for those of you new to this process who actually sacrificed time, money and sanity and diligently studied? Well, prepare to be regaled with tales of test-taking prowess and good fortune once the results of Part 2 are scored and released.

Fort Fellatio Dollies with nary a day on the street past probation, folks from units that the majority of us will never have the clout/phone call to work and those with the Golden Ticket to extra-special, super-secret study groups will emerge at the front of the pack. Coincidence, no doubt.

That's what I've been hearing, SCC.

I still don't understand why the city just can't do it legit like they did for the second to last FTO exam. Maybe because nobody wants that job anymore?

Why can't you hold onto your test until your group is finished then tender it to the proctor then walk to the SCANTRON machine, feed the test paper into the machine and wait for the results and leave with a copy of your score on sight? How the fuck do they manage to conduct voting for the President of the United States, the Mayor of the City of Chicago and all general elections in one day? A few hours?

This job is such a farce. I mean do we really have to have an exact representation of black SGTS to black P.O.s to the number of citizens on the street? I don't know but if I were black or Hispanic and there was this 'curve' shit that had to be factored in to make rank I don't think I would really want it.

It's like the department says to the minority groups, "Well here ya go. You are too dumb to make it on your own." What a complete embarrassment this job has become. I guess earning the job is a thing of the past.

Anyone who thinks passing will be 70 and up should be psyched. Anyone who thinks it will be 60 and up should report to random drug and alchohol testing. Passing might be as low as 40%

If your going to be promoted then you need to know the order front to back and should be able to answer the question however it was answered. That's the cpd way though, u think everything should be easy because you deserve it because your a "worker" in 011... Please, studying will get you farther on this test than talking about your dope pinch the other day on Madison and Pulaski. If you get more than 30 wrong you don't deserve to be a sgt just for the fact that you can't even study properly when given 9 months advanced warning that a test was being given. Cry all you want, this is a profession not a free ride. You don't make sgt because your a good guy or a worker.. It's because you know what to do according to dept directives. At the end of the day following the general orders keeps you safe from cr numbers, not the tuff guy f em all tuff guy sgt attituide. So cry all u want, blame yourselves, not the test

The threshold for passing part one will be abysmally low. What matters is part two. If you study hard then you have a good chance of making sergeant. This test is completely on the up and up. If you read the study guide, you write down your test candidate number on all test material. So no one even knows who you are, your name or even how heavy you are. It's completely fair and honest.

Even a "dummied up" Sgt test almost 2 decades ago yielded only several qualified candidates. That's unfortunate, because they weren't looking for qualified Sgts. This is the same scenario to equal the playing field.
Nobody scored +90... 30% of your score was given as an entitlement to those who had less.

its a weighted test.

Meaning every question is worth a different amount of points.

That is why it takes so long to grade.

If the city did not do this then a boat load of white males would dominate the top 500 spots.

So the testing company changes the points around till a number with enough minorities and women is created.

The average is skewed more by the number of people who seem to score near perfect. The answer key isnt passed out but the clouted can be given the 100 order to look at and study.

DAT AINT CHEATING RIGHT???

Off Topic,

Once again our 2nd watch Lt in 011 calls in this morning and says he "cant make it in" and needs time. Wow! this is like the 13th time he did this in 2013..

Its perfectly ok for him to call in at last minute to take time and thinks its perfectly acceptable. But, if a PO calls in and ask him for time he has a shit fit and questions our reasons for it.

Could it be he was out with Richie scotch breath from 008 last nite?

Do as I(JA)say not as I(JA) do.

The fire test in 1995: thevdepartment said passing was %67. That left an eligible pool of possible fire recruits who scored in the 67-100 range to go for further testing. The city, against the advice of counsel, decided to invite to part II those who had scored 87 or better. This left out a sizable number of African American candidates, thus, according to some, making it prejudicial. The court said that while demanding a possible recruit to pass the test is fair, the department was unable to say that scoring at the high end of passing would make someone a "better" candidate than someone who just passed. Ridiculous? I think so. But shortsighted on the part of the city as well who ended up paying big time.

I love the crybabies here saying how hard the test was and how the used confusing wording... It was a test.

There is a curve for each racial group. Then based on those curves and the averages, the passing score will be ascertained, which leads me to believe it will be around 45-48, if you go on prwvious tests experiences and lawsuits, statiscally the no argument or passing score will be 40-47. Right 35th st is hard at work on how to avoid the lawsuits from the usual suapects, especially that racist ervin fellow.

Should have been a 14s. I have never ever heard a sgt use this! It should be one number with a letter that's how we normally code things. Nonsense questions that most sgt, good sgts, didn't even know the answer to. No card with codes handed out in roll call when order changed in April 2013. Gimmie a brake. I could think of a 100 more important questions to ask. The fact that everyone is talking about says something... If u it it right hy guessing, or reading the order and actually remembering, GREAT! Still a bullshit question!

I have personally taken the GRE and did very well. I have also completed the LSAT and did really well. But this test was a measure of nothing. It was a poorly constructed mess created by people who are not police officers and know very kittle about this department. You are wrong in regards to the 1-19s. The wording on the GO states:
The appropriate Miscellaneous Incident Code Number (1-19), along with the letter S, (Sam), describing the police action, will be given to the OEMC dispatcher by the field supervisor reassigning an OEMC dispatch to the Alternate Response Section for policeservice.
Thus io solution interpretation is 1-19s, however the order states the appropriate code meaning 1 through 19 not 1 dash 19. which ever numeric code applies, i.e. domestic, disturbance, fire, etc. followed by S. None of the answer had 19S as the answer therefore this question should be thrown out.
I got an 88 btw.

Class dismissed.
