Fire Rescue

  • A Chicago police officer rescued a 72-year-old woman by throwing her over his back and carrying her down the stairs during an extra-alarm fire in the Portage Park neighborhood Sunday night, police said.

The blaze left the building destroyed after starting about 8 p.m. in a restaurant on the first floor of a two-story building that has apartments on the second floor, according to the Chicago Fire Department.
We left this one be for a bit as the Tribune took it upon themselves to visit the sins of the Officer's brother upon his own individual heroic actions. We doubt that the 72-year-old woman who was carried out of the apartment really gave a second thought to who was rescuing her. She probably didn't demand that an Officer unrelated to the disgraced former member come and rescue her instead, once again proving that the media will use the same cudgel over and over again to beat up the Department at every opportunity.

A job very well done by the involved Officer, and nothing should take away from that.

Terry I am so sorry the media did you like that. You did an awesome job and saved a life. The media can only remember a mistake made by Tony. I hope he is doing better now. You and your family will always be my friends and I want only the best for you. I hope to see you again in Springfield at the memorial. You friend Ken M ALMC

The media is a sick and disgusting bottom feeding pile of !@#$%! I stoped buying the newspaper nearly 15 years ago and never will. I won't read it and I don't know anyone who still does.
Great job officer!!! Fuck you Tribune!

Wow. The last 2 paragraphs were completely unnecessary. Why would anyone need to know that Officer Terry Abbate is the "brother of disgraced former officer..." Or that he is the only Abbate family member on the job as of 2 years ago?

Meanwhile state and city politicians are allowed to run a mock stealing dollars from every tax payer to line their own pockets... Unreported.

That place was a disgusting magnet for gangbangers. Directly linked to two homicides.

Now if the "Fade" barbershop across the street would burn to the ground, there might be hope for the neighborhood.

As of now, it fits the Rahm Emanuel Sanctuary City Model and is not fit for inhabitation by normal folks.

People yes, folks no.

How the fuck was the media just doing their job?! What did Tony have to do with Terry saving someone from burning to death?! How is anyone better off by knowing they're related. You sir, give the media too much credit, and are yourself an asshole.

Since we're revisiting past transgressions, how is the DUI and battery case going against their star reporter?

How about Jose Sanders? Is he still doing drugs?

Is Skippy staying sober or driving drunk and endangering the children?

Is Neil Steinberg still sober or does he do a belt and belt his wife as he's done in the past?

Maybe when the next slow news day rolls around and the anal pores in the media dig up the rotting carcase of Tony Abbate for "one last" bite, they can finish off THAT piece with "...it should be noted that his brother, Terry, also a Chicago Police officer, is credited with saving the life of a 72 year old woman by his heroic efforts at the scene of a fire."

Thanks, Terry.

I read the Trib mention in a different light. A lot of readers will see the name Abbate and at first glance think "whoa, isn't that the guy from the thing at the bar, how is that guy still a cop?!?" So they may have wanted to clarify that the subject of the article is *not* a bad guy, and instead is a good cop who did a great job. They just wrote it poorly. (What, poor writing and sloppy editing at the Trib? I'm shocked!)

Why did the citywide team use a non union printer for their literature? I guess the bigger question is why did they use non union workers to paint the hall and repair the water leak?

Good job officer. When you put that uniform on take a good look at yourself in the mirror and know that you are what a police officer is supposed to be.

Officer Terry Abbate and his partner ran into a burning building and saved a terrified senior citizen without hesitation....that took "Serve and Protect" to the highest level. Nothing less than a Life Saving Award should be given and maybe a letter of appreciation from a CFD boss because the outcome would have been probably a death investigation if these two fine officers didn't put themselves in harms way without regard for their own safety. Since the beginning of time there are families with members that are good and some that are evil. When a law enforcement member goes out and strives to do the best job possible after another family member tarnishes the family name; simply give praise and all due respect to the good man and do not disrespect his honor with remarks disparaging his family history. The remarks about the former LEO have no place in this officers fire rescue story. Thanks for a job so well done Officers! Retired CPD

unnecessary and classless once again by the media. scum times i believe on this occasion. police or not, this was a heroic effort and should be in a congratulatory story. who your brother is doesn't make this any less of a heroic story. great job to officer(s) involved and please continue to be safe out there.

The media is always looking for ways to muddy the CPD as part of the socialist/communist agenda. Look at the new show, CHICAGO P.D.. The main character Sgt. Voight is a dirty cop who becomes a federal plant. The others all have their faults, like putting a suspect in the trunk of a car.

Oh, do we remind people that the brother popular weatherman Tom Skilling of WGN-TV, which is owned by the Tribune Company is in federal prison for a some Ponzi scam.

Forget about reading any print media..they all belong to oboma and you'll never read the truth of what's going on in this country. Instead, check out www.breitbart.com, www.theblaze.com, www.freerepublic.com, www.drudgereport.com. Read them daily, and you'll be shocked at all the news that's out there, yet you're not allowed to read about it in any of the socialist/communist/marxist run newspapers, TV/radio network news groups. Welcome to censured reading material courtesy of oboma. You're living in a police state, folks..just ask anybody who use to live in Cuba, Poland, Ukraine, North Korea, China, Russia, and hear what they have to say about oboma and his "policies."
