Look - A State Surplus

Of course it isn't Illinois. Illinois is circling the drain. No, we're talking about Wisconsin:
  • [...] Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker has completely changed the “state of the state” and Wisconsinites are reaping the benefits.

In 2011, Wisconsin had a whopping deficit of $3.6 billion dollars. But a cooperate [sic] tax cut and collective bargaining reforms invigorated the state economy. Now, the state is boasting a $911 million surplus, credited to “good stewardship of the taxpayers’ money.”

[...] He's proposing $800 million in tax cuts.

“What do you do with a surplus? Give it back to the people who earned it. It's your money," Walker said.

Of course, there were plenty of Democrats who rolled their eyes at Walker’s State of the State address, but they can’t ignore the facts. Walker’s cuts and reforms have worked a miracle in Wisconsin, and I doubt liberals will be complaining when more of their money stays in their pockets.
And are you seeing this in any of the leftist media? The New York Times? ABC, NBC, CBS? Nope, and certainly not in the Tribune and Sun Times - if the word got out that a nearby Republican governor actually turned a deficit into a surplus, people might start getting ideas.

From the Texas Tribune Dec. 12, 2013 :

Comptroller Susan Combs reported that Texas ended the 2012-13 biennium with a $2.6 billion surplus, more than double the $964 million surplus her office projected over the summer. The report also predicts that Texas taxes paid by energy development firms will be at least $2 billion more than earlier projections, resulting in $8 billion in the state’s piggy bank by 2015.

I guess we can only dream...what if...

P.S. No state income tax

In Wisconsin, as opposed to Illinois, the government counts the postage stamps. One Democratic state senator, who was viewed as a potential gubernatorial candidate, ended her career voluntarily after it was discovered that she failed to report a $90.00 lunch tab paid for by a lobbyist.

Since you obviously have not been following the news, the Democrats have had Governor Walker under a magnifying glass for most of his term and tried to oust him through office via a recall election. He is doing a good job and standing up to the entrenched interests in Madison, something that Patsy Quinn will never do.

Never happen in this state. The unions control the state through their political contributions. Union compulsive membership was ended in Wisconsin. Many union members then quit the unions and did not suffer a loss of pay or benefits. What a surprise!! The teachers union lost all of their clout along with the argument that the schools need more and more cash to be effective.

You see these ideas actually work. Conservative Republicians do have good ideas on how to make America stronger. The problem is we rarely get the chance to see their ideas implemented cause of democrats who want to give money away to the dead beats in return for votes. Conservatives tend to follow what our founding fathers invisioned, like responsibility, limited government, states rights, lower taxes, risk and reward, capitalism, etc. etc. Good for you Gov. Walker. Hopefully someday 100 years from now Illinois will see the light. Doubtfull though.

In a nutshell...

You don't have a city full of catered to constituent "takers" dictating "gibs us what choo gots" fiscal policy (via their craven-assed, deeply entrenched elected representation) for an entire state...

Hint-HINT!

You also don't have a moneyed, plugged into everything corporatist elite class energetically directing the craven-assed, deeply entrenched elected representation of the catered to constituency to hurry the fuck up with the redirection of tax payer treasure to THEIR pockets at the expense and total detriment of what's left of the working and middle class tax payers.

Here's a truth...

Demographics clearly showed 40 years ago that the fertile, relentlessly replicating catered to constituency has completely procreated the middle and working class taxpayers to a stand-still if not into high speed reverse...

In retrospect, the decision to stick it in the shorts of people who get up and take that sick, tired ass to work was made a long time ago.

You're allowed to exist in Chicago because you support a vast underclass who are actually your masters.

Well shit... They don't dare call it slavery (yet) because too many of you middle and working class types still have too many guns and some funny notions about having rights.

Rahm and his coven of doo-doo chasers are working on that, don't you worry. They're in deep consultation with Corp. Counsel ginning up the perfect series of stymies for you bitterly clinging people who like to think for yourselves.

Now that the end game is in sight, these dirty pricks have gotten comfy with dropping all pretense of being pro working man, pro taxpayer and pro law enforcement.

Look around and see for yourself who's being burned at both ends for a political agenda.

Everybody has air and opportunity to point, laugh and shit-talk because it's happening so loudly and colorfully to The Police in this town.

If and when it finally does happen to The Police, who the fuck do you people think is going to be next as the list of people designated to be the losers gets shorter?

"We're so sick and tired of you Cops thinking so much of yourselves..."

All right already! We get it.
You just want The Cops to go away so that everything will be ok...

Then what?

O_o? o_o? o_O?

"Oh... Uhh... About that? Oops..."

One of my favorite comments came from the former Republican Gov. of Indiana shortly after Gov. Quinn got his "temporary" income tax increase passed. He stated, "the best thing for business in the state of Indiana is Illinois politicians." He then welcomed any Illinois business or resident to Indiana. Indiana is another state with a budget surplus along with Texas, Wisconsin and a few others. All these states are run by Republicians. I do not believe there is one Democrat controlled state that is doing well. People need to wake up and realize that the working and responsible class can't carry the lazy on their backs anymore. It's a path to destruction.

1/27/2014 02:56:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Or how about our other neighbor, Indiana:
"Indiana ended its 2013 budget year at the end of last month and began its 2014 budget year on July 1.

Gov. Mike Pence on Thursday praised budget closeout numbers showing the state with $93 million in an ongoing surplus and $86 million more than expected in cash reserves.

The majority of the new money will be used to pay off bonds for the Miami Correctional Facility. Pence says the surplus would be best used to pay down debt left to him when he took office and save taxpayers money in the long term."

http://news.yahoo.com/ind-ends-2013-budget-improved-203919208.html

Why would any business choose to set up shop in IL and be at the mercy of our politicians?

Wisconsin was in the red prior to Walker. Under Quinn Illinois remains in the red even with a 67% tax increase. Goes to show that when a demorat gets a 67% tax increase to bail out a state budget over X number years, the state still remains in the red and worse off than the year before. Maybe a 75% tax progressive tax would fix the budget? No that would only mean that the demorat controlled Springfield will spend the money first of new paybacks to political contributors before fixing the budget; only to cry broke the next year.

Judge strikes down Milwaukee's residency rule

http://www.cbs58.com/news/top-stories/Judge-strikes-down-Milwaukees-residency-rule-242270191.html

MILWAUKEE -- A Milwaukee County judge has struck down the City of Milwaukee's residency rule. The rule that's been in place since 1939 required all employees of the City of Milwaukee to live within the city limits.

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker signed a bill into law in 2013 eliminating the city's residency rule, allowing police officers, firefighters, teachers and several others to live in Milwaukee suburbs and work for the city.

Part of collective bargaining reform was opening up a union-run insurance program to price competition---which it had resisted and which was keeping the price artificially high. When that happened, the union discovered that it could, indeed, provide insurance at a competitive, lower price. Big surprise. Miraculous, no?

In short, the union was being greedy and needed a lesson in altruism.

You should read a little history of Wisconsin taxes, pensions and collective bargining, a state where pensions are taxed except for a few, where the municipalities paid social security for their employees as well as the employer and employee portion of their government pension contribution, thats right the municipal employees didnt pay into their own pension and had social security taxes paid for them. And by the way "Big Jim Thompson"(R) signed illinois pension provision legislation and "Jim Edgar"(R) is happy to accept his 100K. and for you with cottages n Wisc' retire there and pay taxes on your pension from illinois.

The Illinois Toll Roads always have a large surplus. Every year they keep re-paving the same sections of I-294. Is there any reason why some of that money cannot be diverted to other needs of the state? Over the years there have been several scandals regarding asphalt sales to public projects (Dan Ryan X-Way resurfacing 1970's for one). No investigations?

That 67% increase sounds like a lot but is just 2% of income. From 3% to 5% and is "temporary." I know, all the increases were passed off as temporary and then made permanent. The trouble is, no cuts were made in spending. Ask Madigan and Cullerton why not.

Get ready for a progressive state income tax which will snare pensions and a possible city or county income tax of 1%. Both are being discussed now and a state bill to put a constitutional amendment on the ballot next fall to bring in a progressive tax has been filed. They can also attempt to add another constitutional amendment to the ballot to alter pensions. This is not over yet. The dems just keep on spending more and more.
