Over Budget?

Anyone see this report?
  • OT, CLTV is reporting that the new DePaul stadium and McCormick hotel complex is going to cost substantially more than expected. They are reporting the city is looking for a "developer" (read someone who will line the pockets of rahmulous's cronies) to help keep the project on budget. Great, not even out of the gate and its already over budget. Maybe this will kill this stupid waste of taxpayer money.
Have they even broken ground over there yet?

ya know the u.s. air and america airlines merger will result in layoffs shortly. just waiting for the announcement.

the effect of the dominicks layoffs, the food stamp cuts [2 million ppl in illinois] causing more layoffs, the effects of the 80k workers being kicked off their extended unemployment benefits all kicking in to make a wonderful 2014 summer recovery hahaha.

not laughing at the ppl affected. laughing at the corporate media propaganda machine.

looks like the automakers ran out of bailout money -- it all went for exec bonuses and now even with the union wage cuts it's the sameol' shit.

How about the TIF money? The entertainment tax money? The City Sticker Money? The winter parking ticket money? The 'let's cut the ranks of the Police Dept. money?' How about the Boeing and Coors moved their H.Q. to Chicago and the employees are buying their lunches downtown tax money? Mayor Rahm needs more ideas money???

Gotta love the comment in the article by the "Deputy Mayor" that "We are not going to put any more taxpayers money into this". Yes, the $55 million from city taxpayers and $470 million from state taxpayers is more than enough thank you! Evidently the "Deputy Mayor" doesn't know that McPier gets its operating budget from Illinois taxpayers. So if you push the burden of the extra costs over to McPier, taxpayers are still getting it stuck in their ass! You're just sticking it in more of them! And I'm sure the farmers down state will be happy as a pig in shit that they will have a new DePaul stadium, entertainment district and boutique hotel up in Chicago that they can get away to so they can forget their troubles. Finally, what the fuck is a "Deputy Mayor" anyway and how much are we paying this idiot.

DePaul is trying to acquire Gordon Tech HS as they are "partners" with GT in an "effort to boost admissions" they now want to change the name of the school in an "effort to attract more students"?? They want to eventually close the school and use it fir DePaul only.. Mary Dempsey who is the wife of super attorney Phillip Corboy is at the head of this as are several CEO's of banking institutions who wield power... This is a political / business ploy to attract free land by forcing a take over of the school and property then eventually using it for other purposes than supporting a high school. They are lying and want the property for the benefit of DePaul or selling it to generate revenue for the DePaul project. Gordon Tech is and has been one of the premier Catholic high schools in Chicago with a rich history in education and sports. They did the same thing to Weber high school!! The alumni of Gordon Tech is holding a meeting with Mary Dempsey and her team this Wednesday January 29th at 6 pm... We are asking that ANY GT Alumni and their families or friends PLEASE ATTEND and let these people know we will not give up our rich history or traditions of Gordon Tech high school!! They will not strip us of our heritage... They even went so far as to remove the picture and mural of slain Chicago Police Officer Michael Ceriale ...that's how much they "care" about making Gordon Tech a "better institution" they took Mikes picture down and slapped all police officers in the face as well as his parents!! Please anyone who can come to show support to Gordon Tech and Mike Ceriale and his parents who faught so hard to put his boy through a good Catholic high school show up Wednesday @ 6 pm in the school gym.... We ARE GT and we will find a way to survive!!! GO GT RAMS thank you all and God Bles !!

If you think the Chicago taxpayers are getting fleeced on this deal, wait two years until Rahm attempts an even larger dose of financial engineering for Obama's presidential library. My personal opinion is Rahm will do everthing to delay next year's required pension payment of $500+ million in order to provide a City funding source for Obama's library. There is no way in hell Rahm or Obama will let it be built in Hawaii because it would not generate sufficient visitors.

The CR's will sell out Gordon, just like they sold out Weber. The only difference is they will make a lot more money doing it. The priest are scared they might have to work for a living. First they sold Weber, then the old Seminary in Woodstock to Loyola U, and finally the donated mansion on 7100 N Oakley to Miseracordia.

To the Post about Gordon Tech being bought by DePaul: DePaul is not buying Gordon Tech, only lending support.Gordon has reached rock bottom. There are two ways it can go, 1. close it's doors and become another catholic school closed in Chicago, or except help from Depaul, and hopefully turn the school around.

As a teacher at Gordon Tech I am glad others are finally getting the message out at what Mary Dempsey and her people are doing. We are a great school that serves a need in the neighborhood and in the city. We are there for students that cannot test in to schools like Loyola or Ignatius and CPS school like Payton or Northside. These kids would be lost at schools like Schurz or Celmente and now the people running the school, Kelly Jones, Jim Quaid, and especially Mary Dempsey and Dia Weil, are trying to run it into the ground. Go to the meeting on Wednesday evening but just know they will not answer any of your questions. They will talk about "rebranding" but will not give a cost for that (research shows it costs about 5 million to rebrand). Ask about a name change and they will tell you they have not decided that yet (they have; along with a new mascot, colors, etc.), all part of the "rebranding." There was a similar meeting several weeks ago for administrators at the school and, at the end of the meeting we were told there would be a meeting for general faculty the next day. We were also told that we were not allowed to speak at that meeting but to sit in the back and listen and not answer or ask any questions. Talk to anyone at Chicago Public Libraries and they will tell you how happy they were when Mary Dempsey was gone. She, along with the rest of the "team" as named in this message, have done nothing but lie to the teachers, staff, and, more importantly, students and families of Gordon Tech.

GT was facing extinction before DePaul got involved. If they just wanted the property they would have gotten it within five years without going to all that trouble, the demographics have changed and the blue collar neighborhood can't afford the tuition but the big yuppie population to the east can. It wouldn't surprise me if DePaul hung its name on the school and took GT off. However, what would you prefer, a Catholic High School on its way to thriving again or the school becoming another charter school for CPS? I'd rather continue to have another Catholic option for my kids.

Are they physically barring you from entering the gym?

1/27/2014 04:13:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Probably not physically barring but do you understand what a culture of fear is? Teachers who show up at this meeting, regardless of where they stand, will be lumped into an "enemies" pile by small-minded board members who don't know anything about education yet are in charge of teacher contracts. Another example of blatant disrespect to Faculty, many of whom are alums with sons who are alums as well, one of these board members said in a meeting that, "as a Loyola (Academy) grad...he'd like nothing better than to see Gordon go away for good," to which Mary Dempsey responded, "he's just kidding." Great time for a joke asshole, let's joke around about YOUR job Mary, oh that's right, you don't actually work for a living, you just destroy other people's lives.

Very interesting about Gordon Tech. The teachers admit Gordon hit rock bottom and the help being offered from DePaul and others is a threat to them and the school.
The question is: what do you want teachers, continued failure and a another closed catholic school or a school that is brought back to life and relevant?

1/28/2014 07:17:00 AM

Remember who caused this problem; the CR's,Priest who have ran Gordon from the beginning. When they close Weber the writing was on the wall for Gordon. Be thankful for other who take an interest in saving the school. Some make it sound that DePaul and Mary Dempsey are the cause of all of Gordon's trouble. If you really love Gordon, except their help.
