NC Cop Indicted After Shooting
Hindsight is 20/20 and a copper is on the hook for someone else's bad decisions:
- A North Carolina police officer accused of shooting and killing an unarmed man was indicted on Monday on a voluntary manslaughter charge, one week after a separate grand jury decided against indicting him.
The officer, Randall Kerrick, who is accused of hitting the man, Jonathan Ferrell, 10 times in the shooting last September 14, is the first police officer in the city of Charlotte to be arrested for an on-duty shooting in at least 30 years, the Charlotte Observer said.
- According to police, Ferrell wrecked his car in the woods late at night and then walked to a nearby house in a predominantly white neighborhood trying to find help.
A woman who answered the door at the house where Ferrell knocked thought he was a burglar, feared for her safety and called police.
Kerrick and two other officers responded. They found Ferrell a short distance away when police said he began to run toward them. One officer unsuccessfully fired a Taser at Ferrell, police said. Kerrick then fired his gun 12 times, hitting Ferrell 10 times, police said.
So a frightened old lady racial profiles someone. Police respond, and the soon-to-be-deceased acts exactly like someone who is breaking the law. And when less-than-lethal methods fail, the officer fires to protect themselves from the apparent assailant, they're to blame for a situation not of their making?
Because, you know, no officer ever has been disarmed and shot with their own gun or another copper's gun. It might just be safer for everyone concerned to never ever call the police and for police to never respond to those situations.

CHICAGO — A Chicago police officer rescued a 72-year-old woman by throwing her over his back and carrying her down the stairs during an extra-alarm fire in the Portage Park neighborhood Sunday night, police said.
The blaze left the building destroyed after starting about 8 p.m. in a restaurant on the first floor of a two-story building that has apartments on the second floor, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

The little old lady 'racial profiles' the guy? Sorry, but if somebody tries to kick my door down, which he reportedly did, I don't give a damn what color his tan is - I'm still in fear for my life.
Maybe she was just frightened at the guy's behavior and was scared that he may try and break in her home.
YUP . . .
Fuck doin' police work for me!
We're damed if we do and damed we dont. That officer may have had a wife and a new born at home to think of. He may have had two or three grade school kids to worry about. When you have responsibilities like that at home YOU DO NOT second guess your actions. Hopefully a judge or jury sees it that way
Disgusting...
19-Z
Details please.
How do you "wreck your car in the woods"? Drunk driving?
BTW, why is racial profiling only applied in situations with a black person?
The NAACP is trying to make this into Travon Part 2.
Follow the money.
So...
Grand Juries nation wide have been returning indictments against Coppers in sad, sorry and fucked circumstances like these.
What they're saying is the totality of circumstances don't mean shit to them when a Copper is involved.
OK... Then it's fine for The Police to respond in turn by saying fuck galloping to the rescue when shit goes bump in the night?
Why yes... Yes that is the proper Police response.

I believe the article states that the individual as knocking on the door, which is a huge difference between kicking down a door. There was nothing in the article that mentioned the elderly resident being afraid because he was black. The resident was afraid because of hearing loud banging/ knocking at her door in the early morning hours and assumed someone was breaking in. Geez, I hope your not the police.
I just love how in every single article I read the journalist writes the following. Officer Kerrick killed the subject as he was seeking help from the police.
Does anyone in their right mind believe that all this subject did was seek help from the police? Then the white officer killed the unarmed black man? Please stop the nonsense.
If you have your gun out and a subject is running at full speed (depending how far away) at you, chances are he is capable of grabbing your gun. Now your own gun is at play and if the subject grabs your gun you will be shot and killed with your own gun.
Typical and they want to demonize us rahm takes away our pension. Btw just opened property tax bill all redone showing how much we are billions short everywhere if this is not a call to throw them all out of office for felony criminal mismanagement nothing else is! On last tax bill last year it broke down where money went I guess this is a scare tactic to actually get taxpayers against is more to support rahm thievery not contributing there fair share required to our pension plan!
Hey billy any contract news? Is it in arbitration? If not what's the hold up? Don't worry heard the clean slate idiots talk at roll call they had absolutely no clue but they promised to visit roll calls great platform guys !
The dead guy was stoned and drunk out of his mind when he crashed. He wasn't racially profiled. He was called in by the homeowner as he should have been. There is no such thing as racial profiling. It is criminal profiling, Period. He who controls the lexicon controls the debate.
Police officers have a fraction of a second to decide whether to shoot or not to shoot someone in order to save their life, the life of another first responder, or a citizen. Then if there is any sign that a wrong decision was made in that fraction of a second, civilian and police boards, prosecutors, the courts, etc. have weeks, months, and years to decide if that decision made by the police officer was right or not. Most of all, none of them were there when the officer had to make that life-or-death decision. This astounds me.
family member of a cop
I guess the part I am having a problem with is the fact that one Grand Jury chose not to indict so the prosecutors put it before a 2nd Grand Jury.
I guess the prosecutors were going to keep convening Grand Juries until the outcome was in favor of the State.
Sad world we are living in...
Get that lady a gun and save a call to the police. Or let the police do their job and not be judged by fools who have no idea what it's like to be a cop in this day
I can happen here just as easy
So they take it to the Grand Jury and they refuse a True Biill and the state gets a do over with a different jury or a reduced charge? Wow

Hey stupid. You are a worthless asshole. I have no way of knowing what happened in NC and I will not let it affect the way I go about my day. On the other hand, losers like you should quit and go work a job better suited to your talents, like holding down a security desk in a building downtown.
Saggy-faced, whining jagoffs like you make it harder for everyone else on the job. Everyone who works with you knows you for what you are: you will be the last to show up when backup is needed; you will be the one who takes long, long lunches outside the district; you will be the one who turns minor paper jobs into major projects, forcing others to take your calls. When a job comes up in your beat you're "just going down on a traffic stop" or "heading for lunch" or a personal. Your attitude makes you an utter loser and you are the one who gives police a bad reputation. Go away soon shitbird.
cant wait to retire, take care of yourselves public....really don't want to do anything anymore, we are ALWAYS wrong.
He wasn't looking for help... Again this is just what the media put out...the savage was trying to kick her door in while he was yelling. Listen to the 911 tapes...there is a lot more here than they want you to believe. They made this a race issue...the animal was acting like a typical bird and charging cops. He failed to remove his hands and obey verbal command. One cop fired a taser with negative effect while the bird was charging. The NAACP and all the other race baiters are spinning this, big time. They even gave out the address of the woman who called 911. Now, she is being threatened. The sack less Asa's and departments are so scared of this administration, they charge first and sort it out later. I still can't comprehend the second grand jury bullshit? The first grand jury didn't indict him, so they try again? It's bullshit how people buckle to these animals and race baiters.
SCC you have this story a little fucked up. What you have is from the Tribune is attempt to spin this into Trayvon 2.
Dude crashes his car because he is drunk. He stumbles up to a house. According to the women who lives there he is pounding on the door demanding to be let in. She calls 911 and says that there is man attemtpting to break into her house. The NAACP is reporting a version along with certain media outlets that he crashes car, makes no mention of being drunk, walks up to this ladies house and knocks on the door ,asked to use the phone, at which point she answers the door and then and then slams it and then calls police because he is black.
When the police shows up dude has his hands in his pockets and refuses to remove them. He charges the police after tasering in ineffective and is shot and killed. This all recorded on dash cam. The police telling hi to remove his hands and all.
City calls that an officer's "cost of doing business"
Like the previous poster said- damned if you do and damned if you don't. That pretty much sums up this job in a nutshell. You take action, having to make decisions within seconds, and if it's a less than perfect decision, John Q. Public is foaming at the bit to unleash judgement and punishment for your attempt to properly do your job. I hope the officer is vindicated and able to get through this difficult time.
Trust me (or not)I was a human garbage man for 25 years. I know those extra duty jobs look good. But their bad for your head. Get in, get out, and live
True News USA had an in depth post about this yesterday including the threats of protests if the grand jury didn't indict for "justice".
I'm a little old lady. If an ex-football player comes banging on my door at 1 am, I'm calling the cops too, and I don't give a flip about what color the guy is. And that is in lieu of shooting the guy myself. I'm just sayin, who today doesn't have a cell phone to call for help after a car wreck?
Second guessing again!

I'm just sayin, who knows where the cell phone could have gotten to during an accident? I hope you're not the police.
SCC, I appreciate the article as a tool of information about what is happening across the country. I don't think it's a good idea to post, however, because we have enough of our own race card bullshit to contend with without taking on the rest of the country's.
It's a tragic situation that none of us were there for. It seems that there may be more to the story than meets the eye and several questions jump out (like who the fuck doesn't have a cell phone today when Obama is giving them away and why would you run at the cops?}
Just wait till the toxicology report comes out...should be interesting.

Sorry, sunshine, but I am the police and I am relying on more than just the single, somewahat biased and limited, article you are referring to.
I've been following the case, not just reading this one article, and the woman reported the guy was kicking at her door and trying to break in, not gently tapping at her door.
I'm in NC.
According the the local paper, www charlotteobserver com, the first grand jury was not fully "staffed" for lack of a better word. The second one was.
That and the Charlotte Police Chief thinks he used excessive force strengthens the indictment.
Let him have his day in court when all of the facts come out.

Another feeble-minded pussy heard from. Been doing this since 1979. Now go back to whining and crying about how tough it is to be the police.
Wait for the facts....wait.....wait.....wait for it!

Absolutely correct. There is nothing wrong with requesting police assistance, its nothing to be ashamed of or embarrassed about. I am a male, and I would do the same thing you advised. Lock the door, retreat into a safe area of the house and call the police. If you leave these sorts of situations to those who are properly trained to handle them, things always work out better for everyone, especially yourself. There's no need to be a hero. It's always better to be safe than sorry, and the best way to stay safe is to avoid a confrontation.
