Numbers Are Down - and That's Bad

Shootings are down, homicides are down - That's good

Manpower is down, vehicles are down - That's not so good

The number of people signing up for the St. Baldrick's event - That's REALLY not good:
  • We're just under one month away from this year's St. Baldrick's event, Friday, March 21st. There is still time to sign up and get fund raising to help fund research into childhood cancer. Almost all of us have been personally affected by this horrible disease and through funding raised at events like ours, St. Baldrick's researchers have made huge progress in treatment of patients while searching for a cure altogether.

For the first time we are combining efforts with the CFD members, feel free to share this information among either department and even challenge the firehouse in your district to a little rivalry. Talk to your friends on the suburban departments and see if they want to join us. The main web page where you can link to each respective event is http://www.stbaldricks.org/campaigns/chicago1stresponders

The events will be held at three locations and you can contact the organizer for each location with any questions.

    022, Bill Murphy 50murf@comcast.net
    025, Anne Zamzow anne.zamzow@chicagopolice.org
    Headquarters, Bill O'Reilly chromedome1269@sbcglobal.net

Two Departments. One Mission. Conquer Childhood Cancers!
We imagine that the weather has gotten a lot of people distracted and free time being eaten up by clearing sidewalks, alleys, neighbors' cars, getting to work, extended commutes and such.

We also imagine that everyone has probably gotten a bit attached to their hair keeping their heads warm during these past winter months. You know you grow it just to cut it again and in any case, warm weather is right around the corner. There are kids out there with no hair at all fighting for their lives and everyone reading can make a difference. Let's get those numbers up.

OT - Why are all the traffic unit guys dicks to other coppers? He literally only pulled me over because I passed him up (he said I was going 50 in 45, the most egregious of offenses). When I informed him I was on my way to work, he gets puffy and asks if I'm using my position within the department to influence his decision in writing a ticket. He then asks me if there is general order saying he doesn't have to give me a ticket because I am also the police. I was thinking maybe he was just reciting a line because he probably had his mic on, maybe a cya thing, but when I asked someone at traffic court about him, they said "no, he's just a miserable old dick," Lighten up dude. Its bad enough it costs $4 up there.

What's worse, the miserable old dick traffic guy doing his job or the whiny dick crying on a public board? Say it to him, not the public.

he may have been a jerk but you surely were. don't pass up a police car. and don't you being the police had nothing to do with it. that copper whether you like it or not did his job unlike some of us dogs. i didn't hear you thanking that officer for doing his job and giving you a break. but since you are cpd, which makes you special, you can continue to be a whiny baby. wahhhh wahhhhh

Again, THIS site should be limited to addressing the many virtues of those that participate in St. Baldricks, please.
Just my $.02

God Bless them all.

I'd go (Great Cause), but dealing with the city and this department caused my hair to fall out years ago. I'm still debating whether to make it an IOD or not.

I started doing St. Baldricks with the suburban departments many years ago and it was a lot of fun. Glad we have our own thing here, but it's about the kids. Whoever wants to come out-you're more than welcome. That being said, my wife was diagnosed last year, so i'll be doing another cancer charity on her behalf this year. Good Luck to St. Baldricks this year!

And if someone passed you, you'd probably have stopped them too. We've all stopped people who have went around us or passed us while we were working on something. Get over it.

The Chicago First Responders Saint Baldrick's Day celebration is Friday, March 21st.

You can go to either the 25th District, on the north side, the Public Safety Headquarters central city, or the 22nd District on the south side.

They all start at 7AM.

I went last year for the first time to the event on the South side. Met the one cop was working the event and whose kid was battling cancer, emotional stuff. I hope she is doing as well as can be. The other cop running it lost his parents to cancer too, so it was equally as sad. I'm sure there are more stories like this all over the other events, that is why I am glad I went. Put stuff into perspective for me and I am glad to go it again and hope others will shave as well.

Think you missed the point. It wasn't about being stopped. It was about the lecture and all the BS after.
