Possible Identify Theft

From the comments:
  • OT- 015th district officers were called to a domestic on Quincy St, once they arrived the offender fled.

    The reason the girlfriend called was she saw him on his laptop with a roster of 015th district police officers names, address and social security numbers. The information was still up on the computer when the officers arrived. The roster contained the names of about 100 officers and was dated from 1999.

    How he came about getting the information is unknown but there are some ideas. Such as the old station on Chicago Ave. still contained file cabinets with official police documents inside them before being torn down. There were always people going inside and stealing copper and whatever they could get their hands on.

    The offender has two names that he goes by Tramble, Tom and Hinton, Quinton along with two IR #'s. He is from Alabama but has been arrested in Chicago. SCC feel free to edit this post if you feel the need to. Report is under HX153727.
Someone also related that a former 015 District officer had an account(s) opened in his name in Alabama or Mississippi for a mortgage fraud scheme. No idea if this could be related to it, but anyone working in 015 around that time frame ought to check their credit histories and maybe keep an eye out for unusual activity.

So the City of Chicago is now legally responsible for notifying those 100 officer.

I hope media affair does right by this and lets legal affairs know.

Any damages caused by this to any officers is a safety issue and should also be a grievance.

But some white shirt will think he can hide the facts...

It is northing more than a typical government bureaucratic snafu. Things like this happen all the time when government is involved. Get used to it.

Up until about 1999 every Commander and Lts. acting as Commanders had a print-out with every members' name, DOB, Social Security number, home phone number,date of appointment, home address, employee number and star number. There was no accountability or procedure for the disposal of these documents. I found one in the garbage and kept it and use it to contact officers I knew when I was on the job. These were updated at least once a year, so there may be hundreds of them out there.

This is REAL I am a victim. $10000 spend on a account opened in my name and used in Alabama. Check your credit file and put a fraud alert on ASAP.

You are kidding right? No we were contacted by a former 015th District P.O., who is now a Captain via email. Thanks R.N. for the email.

The department will do nothing just as in the past. They wont even put a special attention on POs homes. If they refuse to address it, then there will be no liability. I, along with a few guys I worked with, was a victim of names and info being sold by a bad cop and still, the department did nothing. We became an "old school" force to deal with the issue and took care of it OUR WAY. Good Luck to all on that list.

It is not "possible". It is for sure. This jagoff took over my sears account and then went on a rampage all over Georgia and Alabama. I know I am not the only victim either. He even used my identity to try to get other guys on the list. Whoever gave this jagoff that list needs to be prosecuted, P.O. or not.

Everyone should have a credit freeze put on their accounts through the big three credit bureaus, TransUnion, Equifax and Experian. It's worth the slight hassle knowing one of these identity thieves cannot access your credit history to open accounts using your credit.

Lots of stuff was left behind when they closed that station. Even some of the lockers still had stuff in them.

I am retired. I was a boss there when the building closed. The placed was packed by officers to move only those items that were to be used. We were told to leave records and computers and that someone from downtown would empty the place out. All records and computers were left inside. Before anyone could get them out, the city boarded the place up. Funny thing was--someone forgot the tazers and someone has to break into the building to get them because the city wouldn't send someone out to open the door. They were sure pissed because they had to repair it. I am pissed because my name is on that list. I won't hold my breath waiting for the city to notify me. I'll put a fraud alert on my account.
As far as I knew, no one ever removed the stuff that was in there. I had heard the rats had broken in to the building. I am not surprised by any of this. What I am surprised about is that what took so long. This info is almost 15 years old. That building closed in Oct 2005.

IS THE CITY-WIDE TEAM RUNNING TWO INELIGIBLE PEOPLE FOR OFFICE??

To run for officer in FOP you have to be a memeber in good standing. But there are certain qualifications. One is to be undert the rank of Sergeant. See by-laws page 8 Article VII Section 1:

“”Only Active members below the rank of Sergeant, who have been in continuous good standing for two (2) years, and who have attended at least one half of the regular business meetings held in the past twelve (12) months may be candidates for office in this Lodge.”“

Active members can be retired or working and are defined on Page 12 Article 1 Section 2:

“”An Active member is any person in good standing who is a sworn employee or on pension from sworn employment with the City of Chicago Police Department. The Board of Directors of Lodge No. 7 may determine that the circumstances warrant acceptance of, or extension of, a qualified individual's active membership. Only Active members in good standing shall be permitted to vote, except that only those members in good standing below the rank of Sergeant, in a bargaining unit may vote on ratification of the collective bargaining contract and related matters affecting that bargaining unit. “”

Reading this Sergeant Michael Voight should not be on the ballot! Additionally Ed King does not have the 5 meeting requirement.

Every city department has one of these lists to this day. They're called an "Alpha List" and are surprisingly very easy to obtain.

The P.O. didnt have to go to Alabama for mortgage fraud. Errol Davis could have taken care of it up here.

At tonight's FOP meeting Rich Aguilar was asked point blank bt a member why he (Rich) had allegedly used the Lodge's email list to send members campaign crap for his own run for re-election.

He flat refused to answer saying that charges had been brought against him and he would wait until after that was resolved to answer those questions at a meeting.

That is pure bullshit. That guy ought to be bounced out of the office and suspended from the union and lose his place on the ballot etc.

Use Mike Shields punishment as a guide. Throw that bastard out. Also Frank DiMaria and Bill Dougherty who both stuck up for him.

Bullshit.

Whoever you folks vote for, I would recommend no votes for Agjuilar, DiMaria or Dougherty. There are plenty of other no good bastards to not vote for also.

Never have so many officers have so few candidates with decency and a backbone to choose from.

I could not identify 17 candidates worth voting for for the trustee positions.

This sucks.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I thought it was odd as well that Voight was on the ballot.
He was a Sgt. and retired as a Sgt.
Now, I know that he could have very well been a paying member as a Sgt. (without having any benefits) and that he retired.
But the timeframe requirements seem to be a bit off for him.
And I DO NOT recall seeing him at any meetings in 2012. Although someone from the lodge could have signed him in every month! (I wouldn't put that past those sneaky b@st@rds)
Carelessness on the City of Chicago's part,they would stick u with a suspension and gladly take the money right out of your pocket and the food from your famililies mouth,maybe it's time to get an attorney and see what coming to you for failing to secure personal information and a building owned by the city!
It's not just paper lists printed out or computers.
Everyone of those large photocopy machines we use everyday in our stations has a memory unit built into it. It takes a picture of every document, photograph or buttocks it ever copies.
There should be a warning sign on all these machines. This is how identity theft rings buy up use copiers from insurance companies and banks and if they did not erase those memories it like hitting the lottery.
Normally I wouldn't be reading this blog until someone brought to my attention a post regarging Sgt. Voight and Ed King two indidvuals currently running for office and the word being spread through out the districts is the both of them didn't have the required meetings to run. All I can say is I hope this isn't true considering I had to stand before the board and plead my case because even though i had five meetings 3 general& 2 rep they all had to be general meetings which was a bunch of bullshit. I went through the grieveance process and lost. now to hear that two above people might not have the required meetings needed to run for office leaves me speechless and in disbeleif. So I will end this blog saying this to Bill, Rich, Sid and all you guys who sat on the board that day while I spoke asking that my five meetings be accepted I hope this isn't true. No need to leave my name because you guys know who I am.
