Don't F@#$ With my Jacket!

  • A 72-year-old man was ordered held on $500,000 bond Sunday, charged with stabbing his friend to death over a jacket at the retirement home where they both lived.

Roosevelt Shaffer, 72, is charged with one count of first-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of Raymond Robinson, 69, at the Bethel Terrace Senior Living facility, according to police and prosecutors.

Robinson was stabbed in his chest about 10 a.m. Friday and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he died about an hour later, authorities said.

The men, who were friends, lived at the facility at 900 W. 63rd St., prosecutors said.

Shaffer allegedly stabbed Robinson in with a boning knife after they argued about a jacket in the hallway outside Robinson’s room, according to court records.
Word is that after the stabbing, he led responding officers on a merry chase, speeding away in his antique Cadi, crashing into a garage, over three fences, two rooftops and was eventually located in a nearby garage. No one is admitting to this however since we just made it all up, but it sounds more exciting this way.

This one made Leo blow a gasket. A cheap homicide in a nursing home got his ass chewed out from gmac. I gotta agree with Leo on this one unless gmac has a plan to stop the random nursing home killings... Gmac threw a fit saying it should have been prevented. He demanded to Leo that an admin sgt in 007 pull the GPS to see where the beat and mission cars were.. Wtf does that matter if it happened inside and nobody called 911 until he was already stabbed.. Gmac has lost it

Maybe Kass could look into how the staff and police over responded while taking this senior into custody because according to him there's no way a senior citizen could hurt anyone with a knife

We took our aunt out of a senior facility because she was constantly having her things taken by other residents. It's so sad. The staff in these places should be held accountable.

This is fucking outrageous!!!!! There's absolutely no fucking controls or laws in place that restricts blade length and sharpness of knives being sold on the streets anywhere in Chicago or Illinois! Anyone can go into a store and buy a 4" or 6" steak knife (extra sharp I might add) and bring it home and plunge it into his or her best friends chest or back and no law is on the books that will prevent the sale of such dangerous instruments! I am fucking outraged !!!!!! LOL!!!!!!

Stop defending the Park Forest coppers simply because they are the police. They fucked up plain and simple. Heaven knows if the police never did anything stupid, SCC as we know it would cease to exist. It was a 95 year old invalid with a walker, for pete's sake. And a WWII vet to boot, which I know means nothing, except that a lot of the hypocrites responding here think that anyone who served deserves instant sainthood. Keep going, John Kass.

Ha-ha-ha, 72 years old and STILL bangin' with his Homies. Now that's what you call perseverance. I dunno but maybe Anita should cut old Roosevelt -- 'Rosey' to his friends ;-) -- some slack just for surviving 3.5 to 4 times longer than most 'bangers.

--- an aside: It's too bad the Gangster Disciples don't have a retirement program for the rare old timer like Rosie so they don't have to live in a Home. One would think with the millions they pull in each month they'd have some kind of Profit Sharing, or 401(k) Pension Plan. (/s) ---

Do like they have done in England. They have banned the sale and possession of pointy knives. All kitchen and other knives now have rounded, or squared, non-pointy ends. It has slowed down the number of fatal stabbings. Also, sale of knives with blades longer than 2.5" are tightly controlled.

Just as they was' bout to turn their lives around. Oh, it wasn't a jacket, but a hoodie, Skittles and Geritol.
What's the deal with old men and knives, widdlin' away hemmin and hawin on rocking chairs.
I think Kass will explore this issue and the recent shooting at the old folks social club in Gary...if he's fair, he will mention the trend of batty old men and weapons.

Apparently you don't red the Kass stories any further than the head line above the column. His story has to do with a 94 year old man that needs a walker who shot shot with a beanbag gun half a dozen times from 10 feet away. Oh, yeah, the old guy had a shoe horn or something in his hand. Please tell us that you are not the police. Lord help us all if you are.

Went to a nursing home to do an incident report a million years ago. The 78 yoa guy was awakened by the fact that his 82 yoa guy room mate was giving him a blowjob that he didn't care to receive. Hmmmmm,...take him into the station in handcuffs and arrest him for criminal sexual assault/battery or tell the staff to move the offender into a new room without a room mate. I know what option I took. I wonder how it would have been handled today? How many people go to work and have that scenario as a possible assignment? lol

I wonder if it is in their benefit retirement package? Do they hang around in the hall corners and peddle smuggled Canadian prescription drugs on the side?

Registration of knives is necessary, that is obvious! How much longer must this knife violence and carnage go on? Knives are for prime rib only! Warning notices need to be engraved on all knives: 'DO NOT PLUNGE THIS BLADE IN ANY OLD MOTHER FUCKER'S CHEST. DEATH MAY RESULT"

couldnt agree with you more. Way too many coppers out here who high five and stand behind other coppers in a shooting no matter what. give me a break. Ive been to numerous shootings where a cop has shot someone and it is a justified shooting but its not necesarily a good shooting. Just because the law says you can shoot somebody doesnt mean you have to. If a guy is running away from you with a gun you can shoot him legally. yes he "could reach back and shoot" and he "could shoot a citizen while he is running" blah blah blah, save those cookie cutter reasons they teach you in the academy for civil court.. but in real life do you have to shoot him?? no. you can wait and play it out a little and be smart. You dont have to shoot the guy who is unarmed beating the shit out of you because you might "pass out and leave your gun exposed", we all learned that from the controversial out of state case and now its all of a sudden used often. some cops love getting in shootings. They think that it makes them a "worker" or aggressive. the guy from 008 who has had 11 or more shootings... we all know who he is. he takes pride in all his shootings. just because you can shoot somebody doesnt mean you have to. just because a guy has a knife 20 ft away from you doesnt mean you have to shoot him, you can but you dont have to. Too many guys are quick to shoot because they can, not because they have too. Many shootings are great shootings and happened because the copper had no other option which I applaud those coppers.. they did what they had to do.. others who just wanna do it suck.

Kinda like a GUN doesn't kill anyone, but a person, using a gun, does.
