Stop Already

  • Forecasters are predicting another winter wallop to the Chicago area, with up to 6 inches of snow expected to fall on Monday.

A winter weather advisory for snow across all of northern Illinois and Northwest Indiana is slated to last from 6 a.m. through 6 p.m. in a slippery start to the week, according to the National Weather Service.
We are posting a bounty for the head of the groundhog causing the extended winter.

In 1978 the winter was horrible. Snow and cold everywhere and this was prior to Bilandic screwing up bigtime during the winter of 79 that led to his ouster and Jane Byrne.

Joined another 100 police officers who traveled to Acapulco and I have been going back ever since.

90 and sunny in Acapulco today and every day!

Meanwhile, the First Lady (of Chicago and the Nation) and her two lovely daughters spent the weekend on the ski slopes of Aspin, Co. We hope she enjoyed the mini vacation. It was well earned and deserved. There was not mention if the First Mother in Law accompanied them. POTUS was playing golf in Southern California, enjoying an equally deserved mini vacation. The golf courses around Washington DC being covered in snow and ice. It is good when the weather allows the first couple to take a break from ruling the country.

Just asking?????

Never letting a crisis go to waste, Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced a business initiative to subsidize the relocation of several artisan cheese making companies and producers of organic beet juices to a Chicago enterprise zone. The waste products from such businesses will be used to sprinkle the streets and reduce the city's dependence upon expensive rock salt for deicing its frozen streets. Brine solution and whey from cheese curds will be applied to the pothole encrusted streets using a spatula approved by Martha Stewart. The pilot program will commence on North Hermitage.
The artisan cheeses will be available for purchase at the Whole Foods Store in Englewood.

As usual all the Chicagoland Weather "Experts" like Skilling and Company, get it right only when it's already upon us, which a shoeless Stevie Wonder could have done. Weathermen are the most useless and incompetent Has-Beens on television and radio. Who even needs them at all any more. Just a waste of time everyday, to be told in a half hour what I could find out on my I phone in 20 seconds.

Still enjoying shoveling. Meeting the neighbors and their dogs in sweaters and silly little boots. Everybody's moving a little slower and saying 'hi'. The snowpile's about five feet high now and we're running out of places to pile it, but the melt this week will take care of that.

Aren't you the same SCC who wrote:

"Seems like a bunch of senseless panic setting in again. This is still Chicago and it's still February. We get snow. Sometimes we get lots."

and

"It's Chicago, it's February, it happens. Act like you've been here more than 5 minutes."

and

"We hope everyone has put together stocks of jerky and broth and emptied store shelves of milk, water and dry goods. It's the end of the freaking world don't you know?

Thank god Chicagoans haven't become such weather candyasses as the newscasters have been this year. There will be some snow. The mayor won't move it, plow it or salt it because it's the weekend and he isn't paying any weather related overtime. No big deal."

Getting soft, copper?

What's your point dickhead? We aren't whining. We posted all those things as sarcastic replies to the media talking heads who attempt to induce panic at the first hint of snow.

It's been a snowy winter and we jokingly post a bounty on the groundhog's head. We still go up, shoveled the walk, shoveled the three old ladies houses who need a hand, dug out their cars and made sure their parking spots were open to the still unplowed street. The old man taught us that in '79.

Everyone is a bit sick and tired about of the 55 inches of global warming sitting on the lawn. You think that's whining? You think that makes us soft because we say what everyone in the city is thinking?

You're an idiot. And an Asshat. Come back when you grow a sense of irony and humor.

Ya you can tell that election time is around the corner. Rahm on TV with the snow plow driver assuring everyone we'll be just fine. Side streets plowed overnight and salted. Why did it take the whole winter to get things working right? Think we need a new head of Streets and San. Someone who can think ahead and be prepared for everything. City hall has been lulled into thinking that winters here will only be mild. Don't fool with Mother Nature.

And hey lady plow driver. Don't ya know he wants your pension? It's all a staged photo op. This has been a long winter and people are not happy.

Global warming does not mean it will never snow or that it will get to 100 degrees in Antarctica.

Think an increase of one degree over 100 years. that is climate change, one degree. That's all. That is enough to disrupt weather patterns, long term climate trends, growing seasons, habitat of animals, insects natural breeding territory and more.

One thing it is not is republican or democrat. The politicians seek to politicize the argument and then it degenerates to "hey, that's 55 inches of global warming on your lawn, har-dee-har ha ha ha."

I am a 28 year PO, 9161, blue and white beat car on days flat foot copper.

In earning my BA from a real school I took astronomy courses, climatology, meteorology, geology and the science involved in natural disasters.

This earth is a very delicate balance of atmosphere (water vapor etc) plant and animal life, ocean currents and more. It all is intertwined, one influences the next and so on.

Stay away from politics, look a bit at the true science involved, look at long term data. Politics in this country is toxic. It is all one way or else the other guy is a traitor, idiot. asshat, liberal moron etc.

In the USA we are now seeing insects that have historically occupied mid Mexico now moving north past the border and in Texas etc. continuing to move north. Growing seasons are changing, by several weeks in many cases.

This is not Rachel Madow or fucking MSNBC. The science does not lie. Things are changing, climate-wise, there is no doubt about that, that is the trend. And it is happening much faster than at any time previously. We know this from core samples, sedimentary evidence of past ice ages etc. Don't get sucked into the politics bullshit SCC. It makes you appear not bright and I know you are smarter than that.

What will you do for water because everything is drying up out west? Water, or lack thereof, is becoming a big problem out west, all the way to the ocean. We need a cheap way to convert sea water to fresh water in vast quantities.

==================

So how do you explain the original topic which is this year has been one of the harshest winters by any measure in the history of Chicago? Kinda goes against your argument. The only constant in weather is change; not climate change, but change. Forty years ago the fear was global cooling, now it's global warming. Let's see what happens the next 10-15 years and whether this year is an aberration or the beginning of a trend towards colder winters before we declare the sky is falling.

Side streets plowed overnight and salted. Why did it take the whole winter to get things working right?

Conditions on my side street are appreciably worse because of the city plowing snow on to parked cars on both sides of the street. The plowing takes place overnight and the slush usually freezes your car in place. Not an issue for those with four wheel drive, but for the rest of us it sucks. If you get off easy, you have to shovel twice. Sometimes, it is enough to keep cars stuck. In most neighborhoods, side street plowing is a totally waste of resources and tax dollars.
