Preckwinkle to Challenge Rahm?
- Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel may face a formidable challenger when he runs for re-election in 2015: Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle. Though Preckwinkle says she will seek a second term on the county board in November, there is a precedent for a quick switch to the mayoral election in February: then-U.S. Rep. Harold Washington, Chicago's first black mayor, did in in the historic 1983 election, against all political odds.
Preckwinkle would be the city's first black female mayor. She won the hearts of many of the city's reformers by defeating incumbent county board president Todd Stroger, widely viewed as corrupt, in the Democratic primary in 2010. She raised suspicions anew when she backed Joe Berrios, a party machine man, for county assessor. But her performance in office has been widely hailed, especially her work reversing an unpopular sales tax hike.
Barack Obama owes much of his early political rise to Preckwinkle. She supported his campaign for state senate in 1996, and his doomed congressional run in 2000. She even takes credit for encouraging him to join Jeremiah Wright's radical church. The New Yorker quoted her in 2008: "'It’s a church that would provide you with lots of social connections and prominent parishioners,' she said. 'It’s a good place for a politician to be a member.'"
Preckwinkle is an unapologetic leftist in the mold of de Blasio in New York. We're talking hard-core left wing bordering on communist Ayers type of asshole. She is so far left, she thinks Obama is a centrist and she's a race-baiter of the highest order. Her running could actually win Rahm another term.

I don't see Preckwinkle running against Rahm. The Machine quietly supported Preckwinkle for County Board Prez after it abandoned Stroger. Rahm has many supporters within the Machine as well, and he is connected to the people who will raise millions for his re-election campaign (not that he needs them, his brother Ari's Hollywood connections have always come through for Rahm). I see that article as pure speculation, not much else. Preckwinkle will sit tight where she is.

Preckwinkle just put up a sign at 1735 N. Western proclaiming the greatness of her Cook County Gov't. It blocks the street sign and is overall poor taste. It probably violates 6 campaign laws meant to stop unlawful electioneering.

It's been clear Toni has intended to run almost since the day Rahm was anointed. Seems the plan was Rahm would do one term and move up to some other office he covets in a large home on Pennsylvania Avenue and Toni would inherit the mayor spot.
Now that Rahm sees he isn't going to get that run for the large ivory color house, he thinks he'll just be mayor for life, just like the Daleys. Toni, however, got a taste and she wants it. What do you think all this babbling about the injustices committed against all the black and brown people has been about? Currying votes, guys, currying votes.

1.) She is the heir apparent. The plan was for her to run and win in 2015 after Rahm declined a 2nd term to move on to greater things. Circumsatnces have forced Rahm to stay for 4 more years.
2.) If she runs in 2015, it's a fix to give the illusion of competition and build her creds for 2019.
3.) You have to vote for anybody over Rahm. I would suggest we get on her good side, now.

A few months back I was at headed out of City Hall walking eastbound across Clark St to the building across the street when I observed a parked black SUV dart across two lanes of Clark St. traffic to park in front of City Hall. The driver just missed taking-out a southbound car with that stunt. He gets out of the SUV to open the passenger side door for Perwinkle.
I thought to myself if that southbound car got hit by the SUV lord knows the pain and misery it might have caused the victims and don't any of these damn politicians drive themselves around like the rest of us paying for them?

Every major city with large amounts of minorities faces the same problem; poor choices for mayoral candidates. When you have someone who promises you everything and you have little why would you not vote for them? Preckwinkle plays the race card every chance she gets. I hear the same old refrain, too many blacks and browns in jail so it must be racist. Well, how about the fact that most violent crime is perpetrated by blacks and browns?

I'm serious. This deal was worked out amongst the Crook County Dems, aka The Machine, after the Harold Washington / Eugene Sawyer circuses as mayors. It's why 'King Richie II' was never challenged by a Black Pol and why no White Dem ever went for County Board Chairman. Each has its own political turf and most important -- piggy banks that come with them to rob blind via taxes(a). Plus the sweet county and city jobs to be handed out to their lackeys...oops, 'supporters'.
And in case anyone wonders, Hispanics fall under white pols & Chi turf, and is why you hear Gery Chico (fellow Kelly H.S. alum) making noise every now and then as running for mayor. And why Daley had that totally corrupt Hispanic Democratic Organization (HDO) doing all his 'dirty work' -- that he knew nothing about, naturally (/s) -- that is, until they got busted by the Feds and went kaput as an organization.

Emanuel has announced his reelection run. He can't be elected as president or vp, and Hilary won't chance having him cheat her out of it.

Those kids were turning in their stars, when they were saved at the last minute by Eddie Burke. The best thing about Harold was that he wasn't Richie!

This city is following the same road to ruin Detroit did. On my foot patrols I often talk to businessmen. Most of them complain about how difficult the city is and how they are being ticketed left and right. One businessman who has a cleaning business and they service and repair cleaning equipment too. He told me that the city routinely writes him tickets for close to $3000 every single year. This year they started early and he is fed up. Initially he didn't want to leave. But he is going to leave this May and move to Georgia. He just can't take it anymore.

Eddie Burke and Eddie Vrdolyak were the SOURCE of all of Harold washington's problems, Remember Council Wars? They wouldn't let Harold get anything done, pass a budget etc. So Burke is the cause and the solution? Burke was no knight in shining armor in that one, come to the rescue my fucking ass.

Paying for health insurance, began under Harold Washington. The Korshak lawsuit regarding retiree health care began under Harold Washington. And yes, Ed Burke, did save the jobs of the recruits that we're being laid off, no matter how much you may dislike him.

You can't be serious. In what world would a former president ever leave the highest office and then run for mayor of a failing city like Chicago. Former presidents make millions of dollars with speaking engagements and their memoirs, and they retain the title of president. I'm going to be shaking my head on that one for weeks to come.
