VRI Cuts?

Remember, since deployment doesn't stop crime, this is only to be expected:
  • Just a.nounced at VRI roll call: VRI is beibg slashed from 130 officers per shift down to 78 starting in March
We've seen a few different sets of numbers, but since Rahm is spending all of his day-to-day money on pothole repair and extra slat and parks and private stadiums and non-job-producing "factories," you can't say you weren't warned.

Partially true. The number is down to 138 for march not 78. It used to be in the low 200's. As soon as the warmer weather hits they will increase it.

Cue the guys that soon won't be able to get it crying about how bad this is gonna sting.

Best intentions of paying down debt having fallen to the wayside in exchange for continuing to live beyond their means will be the story of the day when this becomes official.

Maybe now some of these knuckleheads will take notice of the looming pension crisis and how VRI doesn't do jack shit but help further divide and conquer the ranks.

So the elderly are going to patrol the worst bloodbath in the history of the department? It probably would have been wiser to reduce the manpower between NOV and MAR. Maybe they are doing a body count test. Hopefully this does not deplete the skeleton crews in the taxpayer areas. They should not forget that homicides are truly analysed by the percentage increase and not the actual number. If 1 homicide in 008 is recorded MAR 2012 than 2 homicides are recorded MAR 2013 that is a 200% increase. 4 recorded in 007 reduced to 3 is a 25% decrease. The impact on the geographical areas with morals and ethics becomes devastating.

police issued parking tickets up 19% from last year

Assignment to VRI based on activity NOT seniority.......get used to it kids.... Back before watch bids you got "picked up" by a watch and rotated with that watch. But they could launch you anytime and you were not guaranteed another watch would take you so in essence you were in orbit, usually on midnight a. The way to get in a watch was activity. Every watch was different, like one watch would require 3-5 Parker's a day along with a mover a day, or another watch wanted more movers than Parker's or vise versa. But you had better be filling all the boxes of activity that went to the WC AT&T he end of the period because when they had to dump someone it was usually based on lack of activity. Now all these kids bid to a watch and look at their IPhones all night.

The politicians have got what they wanted pit everyone against each other and nothing but distractions and revenue for Rahm. You guys are so shortsighted it's pathetic. I am not telling you not to do your job, you should answer your calls, back each other up and help the real victims. The sad part is you do just enough to qualify for special employment and then brag about writing a revenue truck, who did you hurt not the city they don't pay that ticket . I remember along time ago when I was afraid and respected the police, before I actually became one. Anonymous They dont care about you! said...

VRI is getting cut because they lost over 40 vehicles (this time) that had to be scrapped. The cars they were using were deemed unsafe and un-repairable. Those cars were supposed to be junked but the City hid them and put them back in operation so they didn't have to buy replacement cars. Someone caught the ol'switcharoo and now they have to sell them as scrap metal, of course only after they strip them in order to Frankenstein the rest of our fleet together with the garbage parts they strip off. But rest assured they will still mislead the public and the media saying we have hundreds of extra officers working to keep the community safe. It's cheaper to rehire and pay overtime in order to avoid the costs of new hires paying their salary and benefits, etc., for years. Like it or not, VRI and other overtime initiatives does save the City money, but those initiatives are bankrupting the pension fund we are all going to rely on over the next 25-30 years. New hires pay into the pension fund, although the politicians are going to try and put that to an end too, making any new hires pay into a 401K fund, thus eventually bankrupting the pension system since there is only takers and no givers. No money in means no money out. The 401K is money employees pay in and the employer (government) can use and invest for profit. Until they mandate the transition for new hires into a 401k plan all new hires will pay into the pension, so we need to force them to hire. HELLO UNIONS! You need to get on the ball and file court actions! By working VRI and most of the other OT initiatives it plays right into their plan to bankrupt our pension. The old CTA and CHA special employment were Federally funded programs and may have even had pension reductions deducted from the checks. We need to think ahead instead of the here and now. I know the money helps, but by working it, your putting a LITTLE money in your own pocket but taking a lot out of your wallet to do it. The car shortages across the Department is only a byproduct of our government waste and mismanagement. You see how long they put everyone working VRI at risk by underhandedly using substandard and unsafe equipment. That's exactly what they think of us. Why help them hurt us?

2/25/2014 05:14:00 PM

Since they are cutting VRI it must mean they are going to hire more Police. Because, you know, according to the rocket scientists that post on here the only reason the city wont hire is because people work VRI.

Sometimes it appears that no matter what is put on this blog or talked about in the station, coppers will believe what they want to believe.

So for what it is worth:

A large part of the story related to VRI reduction has to do with car shortages. It's not 100% of the story, but it is a driving issue behind the reduction.

Many of the cars were no longer safe, yet, they were still being used. Everyday, cars were downed and numerous teams were going out with four officers in a squad. There is no point to that.

This car problem is city wide. Many, many districts do not have enough cars that even the second watch officers are going out with partners.

If the car issue gets remedied, the number of officers at VRI will go back up. Of course, they can say that is subject to change - already some bosses are ignoring the impact of this winter and are quietly announcing a "Victory" in the war against violence. This perceived victory might be translated into keeping VRI officers down, but for now, the main issue for VRI is the cars.

On march 10 and after there are 120 PO's scheduled and 10 sgts, for a total of 132. This is for week nights. Weekends are still about 240. Since the brass has championed this as a win-win for everyone, I doubt it will go away, especially with an election in the near future. We just passed a city budget almost tripling OT this year, so i doubt we burned that up in 6 weeks. But, it makes no sense to have a big roster when its 20 below out. I think it will pick up again with the warmer weather. Now, I was told by someone at roll call monday, that it "might" be cut to 1 Sgt and 8 or maybe even 6 po's. I'll be there this week to hear for myself.

We don't have 13000 9161s. More lik 7500-8000?

Comprehend? It said 13,000 ballots, not 9161's A hint would be the statement,"Don't let the retirees steal the election" Maybe the other 4,000 ballots were to retirees?

It's pretty sad watching dog ass cops running around all day like crackheads looking for their next fix and asking other cops to put them on their arrests or school absentees etc etc just so they can work VRI. Pretty sad...

Is it true that James Moriarty, running for Sgt. at Arms on the City Wide teams, was charged with Agg. Assault for attacking a some senior citizen who is on blood thinners and has an implanted pacemaker?

What is wrong with these people on Washington Blvd?

Time for a complete house cleaning!!

Do not vote for anyone on third floor of FOP. They're all nuts with power!
