Look at That Crime Rate Fall

  • Two people including a 13-year-old boy were shot this afternoon in separate incidents on the South Side, bringing the total number of shootings since Friday to 15, officials said.
It's a damn good thing the weekend ended just now. We wouldn't want to add in Sunday's totals as the temperature climbs to the 60's and probably stays there through Monday.

Especially with a long winter's worth of grudges to settle up this week.

It doesn't matter unless it's a homicide which we are beating the pants off of last years numbers already.. Shootings in Chicago on the weekends will happen.. No need to get so excited. If their not dead then it's not news and it's a positive for GMAC and co.

It makes a copper feel good to know that he has helped to put a big dent in the crime rate. Maybe at last of less fortunate are becoming somewhat civilized. From my desk it certainly looks that way.

Just for shits and giggles...the SUPT had at least three others sit in on the interview.....u know so it's legit.....

So final Sgt promotion class to have another outstanding driver promoted to Sgt of police....

U know, he really knows how to use them turn signals, fast at dry cleaners, parks extremely well,

all the needed qualifications of a CPD leader.

Who is asking for the merit list? start with supt's drivers.

The Sergeant test scores were made available to the city on Friday and there is a HUGE problem. Turns out that the first 300 are overwhelmingly white and male. Over 90%.

No one wants this list to be public and it looks like the new list will be kept on the shelf for the foreseeable future. Look for at least three more big classes from the existing sergeant list before the current list is mailed out.

True, and it will pass in the courts if anyone thinks it is not fair. Also, out of state applicants are getting preference. Another person to tax.
It appears, Catholic and Jewish school grads need not apply cause you will be listed in the lottery number well up to the end of the list.

OT: But Interesting...
--------------------------------
The Better Government Association filed a lawsuit today challenging the Chicago Police Department’s refusal to release documents showing where tactical units were deployed earlier in 2011.

Chicago is divided into 25 police districts that traditionally have several tactical units comprised of officers who often are plainclothes, operating in unmarked squad cars and focusing on, among other things, guns, gangs and drugs.

The BGA heard anecdotally that, in recent years, the tactical units have often been assigned outside their home districts, sometimes for prolonged periods.

Hoping to learn more about such deployments – whether public safety was being served, and whether tax dollars were being spent wisely – the BGA asked the Chicago Police Department in June for deployment data covering the first five months of 2011. The BGA made this request while citing the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), a law guaranteeing public access to all public documents, with limited exemptions.

The police department indicated that the BGA’s request was "unduly burdensome" because of the number of documents that would have to be located and reviewed, and asked the BGA to scale back the time frame.

So you are the hero that only makes the big arrests and comes in with goose eggs the rest of the time. Yep, you got yourself fooled....of course that was pretty easy.

Ignore the small stuff and only handle it when it gets out of control. Not a good strategy most of the time, but I don't know you. Maybe it works in your world.
