Another "Free Ride"
- A measure to help Chicago school children get a free ride to and from school if they live in special Safe Passage routes through high crime areas is gaining steam at the Capitol. Sponsoring Sen. Kimberly Lightford, D-Maywood, said the legislation would set up a system to provide parents with a reimbursement to pay someone to drive the children.
Reimbursements could go to a driver, such as a parent or neighbor, willing to take neighborhood children to schools, Lightford said.
Great. Free breakfast, free lunch, toss in the free rent, free utilities, free phones, free money. Why not free rides to school, even though the article admits there hasn't been a single incident on an actual Safe Passage route? The only thing the media can even remotely connect to Safe Passage is an Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault that happened blocks away in the early morning hours before Safe Passage was even in effect. But why should that stop a broke state government from giving away more nonexistent money?

Will the parents have to make sure the designated driver for their child has insurance? What happens if there is an accident? What happens if the driver is late, doesn't drive that day, etc? Will the state stand behind this? Doubt it.

Education in the U.S.A., along with all its ever-expanding sub-industries and services, is now officially a racket. More and more money is forced out of taxpayers to pay for it, yet American kids get stupider, lazier, fatter and less competitive with kids in other countries.
The government can always squeeze the middle class when "it's for the children."
I think kids from poor neighboroods should just be allowed to live at the firehouse closest to their homes and schools, Monday thru Friday, and the firemen should feed them, bathe them, and walk them to and from school, as they usually just lay around sleeping or lounging around idle anyways. This will give the parents more time to hang out at the Mall, Bar, Parks, and friends places, and their kids would be well cared for, and the kids would b home for the weekend and could be then dropped off at a Chicago Public Library Location and watched and taken care of by the staff, who really dont do much of anything anyways. If all else fails, kids should be allowed to b dropped off at their local Aldermans Office and baby-sat ad the Aldermen are so highly concerned for the childrens safety and welfare anyways, and then the kids could actually teach the Aldermen how to color within tbe lines, and make peanut butter & jelly sandwiches. The parents of Chicago Public School Children deserve and are Entitled to this....
That extra money would go straight to buying more dope, booze, and rims!
Why not give em free SSI, WIC cards, LINK cards and pay em to line the routes that THEIR kids use to go to school.... er never mind I forgot they already get all of that.

I think about the farmer who wakes up at 5 a.m. each morning 7 days a week only to feed the nation. The poor farmer can’t take a day off only to be taxed excessively to feed the non productive class. Think about it, the underserved communities have lots of overweight never worked a day in their life people. Calcutta India has poverty and you can count the ribs of its inhabitants. The working class has the greatest portion of their hard earned wages to be legislated away or legally turned over to the state for distribution according to their wishes. No forensic audits for waste only a call for more legislated confiscation of middle class wages further turning the screws on them. Yo, its time for flaming hots and a wash down of grape pop.
The State of Illinois already pays for family members to babysit children. We also pay for family members to be a personal assistant for those who need assistance for medical reasons. Two programs which are being fleeced by scamming welfare cheats. Everybody and their momma knows how to scam public assistance programs. The welfare cheats know how to collect social security disability and get paid from other programs at the same time. We are suckers.
If you are getting compensated for transporting children, wouldn't you need a chauffeur's license? I smell great lawsuits if this ever happens.

Shit, NOBODY expected to be paid. They DID expect the proper respect for elders, you were expected to have your shit together, ready to go, and be out at the end of your driveway on time.

They are considering giving people the option to reimburse people if they volunteer to drive kids to school. Simple freakin' understandable idea. After I retired I moved out of Cook County. I thought for the most part I was done giving away my money to people that refused to better themselves. Have a kid, the financial responsibilities associated with having that kid are ON YOU. Just because you won't drag your ass out to get your own kid to school, doesn't mean that I have to pay for someone to do it FOR you.

My grandfather, a retired barber used to drive me and my two brothers plus a couple of our neighbor kids to school everyday in his '55 Chevy BelAir.
That car may still be running somewhere and I wish I knew where it was.
Maybe in 6th or 7th grade around 1961 or so an old Sister of Providence fronted me off to the rest of the class because I got driven to school. I felt bad about that and after class I went to her desk. I told her it wasn't just me and my brothers but also the neighbor kids and that car was always full and we lived eleven blocks away almost a mile and a half. I asked to please not put down what was a great act of charity which was the topic of her religion class that day.
She wasn't the first or person who told me I should be a lawyer but I became a cop instead like my father.

Take the kid(s) away from irresponsible parent(s) and put them in a 24/7/365 school.
Nice surroundings that they will learn to maintain.

They will eat healthy, and cook healthy, they will learn to have jobs and develop all kinds of skills.
They will learn respect for people and their country and that they must contribute not just take from society.
After so many years of education they would be returned and be in charge of their parent(s).
Of course this is a dream, such children might even learn to vote independently and Republican.

So, giving a free ride to school to a student who, more than likely will drop out by the time he / she is 15 is a good investment of tax money? Why not just use a school bus to pick them up at designated stops?
