Car Jackings in Streeterville
Isn't this considered a nice part of town? Affluent even?
- Chicago police are searching for two men suspected in a string of carjackings in Chicago’s Streeterville neighborhood.
The latest incident took place around 8:30 a.m. Monday in the 300 block of East Illinois Street.
A man told NBC Chicago he had just gotten into his Jeep Grand Cherokee to head to a meeting when a man with a ski mask and a gun began hitting his window.
Luckily he got a good look at the carjacker:
- “Something inside me told me to run after him,” he said. “Somehow I caught up to him, window down, ski mask off, and got a very good identification of the man. I feel confident that I would be able to pick him out if I needed to.”
We guess that it must be a secret though, because reading the entire Channel 5 article, there isn't a single description of the suspect who pistol-whipped the victim and threatened to kill him.

Great idea but the drivers were approached as they were getting out of their vehicle.
Because there was no published description -- despite the solid eyewitness -- I'll go on a limb and say it was a "diversity" crime.

Don't think that people in places such as Des Moines, Springfield, and Cedar Rapids aren't aware of what's happening. That nice summer visit to Chicago to visit the lakefront and see a ballgame doesn't sound so good anymore.

Not unexpected. Left Streeterville, and Chicago several years ago. Regardless of living in the " green zone" not recommended to venture out at night on foot or alone. Walking to restaurants or shopping always had a high probability of being accosted by aggressive panhandlers. Summertime brought gangs of "youths" (all know the pc code word here) that made Navy Pier and the lakefront problematic.

As much as I hated rotating shifts because of the damage it did to my body and brain having to do mid-nights, those years were the most fun on the job. You truly got to know your district inside and out and there was something magical but also insidious about being the police while the rest of the city slept, that, unless you were a cop, no citizen could ever understand. Each night held the risk of "doing the Dahmer" because the incomprehensible was not unusual during those hours and even the "jets" could be beautiful at Christmas time.
And then there were the true watch parties that haven't really existed since 92 or 93.
Sometimes, it now seems like it was all a dream.
