Pick Your Numbers

Obviously, McMiscount can't tout the shooting numbers for April since they surpassed 2013 already. May isn't looking too good either. What's a number-spinner to do?
  • Police Supt. Garry McCarthy will announce today that police have recovered more than 2,000 illegal guns in Chicago this year.

McCarthy frequently touts the gun recovery efforts while reminding Chicagoans that he and Mayor Rahm Emanuel continue to press unsuccessfully for state lawmakers to enact the tougher gun laws they contend will help reduce violent crime.

Gun violence in Chicago has garnered national attention during Emanuel's first term, and the mayor often makes the case that relatively lax Illinois gun laws are much of the problem.
"lax...gun laws?" Have either of these idiots read the law? Have they tried to purchase a firearm? Have they seen the paperwork Dart is trying to have everyone fill out tracking all gun sales - even private person-to-person sales and inherited firearms? Lax is the last thing we think of involving Illinois gun laws. In fact, didn't the Supreme Court recently strike down a few Illinois laws for being overly strict in violation of the Second Amendment to the Constitution? We're pretty sure they did.

But they can only tout the number that they think makes them look good. Even if it's a nonsense number.

Mexico tried that and it didn't work.

In Feb. of 2013 the vigilante farmers and locals took matters into their own hands violating Mexico's gun ban and then proceeded to force out the drug cartels.

Now Mexico has a PR problem because the government is embarrassed. Not just embarrassed but force to remove it's gun ban for private citizens.

The locals acheived something that neither the police or federales could do and that is to clear the area of the drug cartels.

Of course we imagine the corruption of public officials down there is about the same as in Chicago so yeah why would they want to stop the drugs and violence as it's a money machine.

This is a big thing for Chicago and our economy.

OMG what is the city leaders gonna do if the drug shipments stop and the violence and money to buy illegal guns vaporizes.

The Obamacare money will disappear too for all the GSW victims. No ER visit. No rehab. No pharmaceutical sales OMG how are these corporations gonna fund the political campaigns.

THIS CAN NOT STAND. HA. We better get the DOJ down there with DHS to infiltrate these people with agent provocateurs and demonize them all before they lose the gun ownership is bad message don't you think??

Rahm's commissar bragging about 2,000 guns taken off the street like that is a performance measure that means something.

Hey, why not tell the media how many parker's you wrote since the beginning of the year because after all Broken Windows says that if you stop the little crimes like illegal parking it prevents the stolen guns and shootings from happening.

Why don't you post THAT number?

The parking ticket numbers would be just as meaningful a distraction.

Any way that 2000 number can be proved? 15 guns a day is a lot. Last year it was near 18 a day.

Not saying cops aren't doing their jobs, but this doesn't pass the smell test. The number of arrests should have the rev's up in arms(so to speak).

Hey Garry,

Why aren't you charging and convicting the scum with the guns? Or have Rahm-bo's buddies Obama and Holder bring federal charges?

New laws are useless because you cannot even enforce the existing laws. But I suppose you need something to cover up for your failures.

Has anyone ever asked What tougher gun law would you like to see? "They" keep saying we need tougher laws [even though they are the toughest in the US, with the highest murder rate] what more do 'they' need? "...police have recovered more than 2,000 illegal guns"

On CH7 Eyewitness News, McNutjob said the CPD has recovered far more ILLEGAL guns than any other big city department in the country... more than New York, L.A., Detroit etc.

Problem is, guns aren't ILLEGAL elsewhere like they are here, so DUH!

I mean, it stands to reason that if its against the law to own a red car in Chicago, but not anywhere else in the country, the CPD should also lead the country in enforcing laws against red cars, right?

Ya gotta love the Chicago media who can't even think to ask a simple question like that!

Hey Garry, 2000 “illegal” firearms? The term illegal conjures up negative connotations This term suggests these firearms crossed state lines in violation of regulation law. Use soft spoken language such as undocumented properties. These firearms are displaced keepsakes seeking a new life assimilating back into society with a law abiding, FOID card carrying 2nd Amendment exercising American citizens. When the public hears the term illegal, this term is most identified with little or no enforcement action for violations of laws already on the books but lots of tough talk suggesting the opposite.

Are weapon turn ins, found firearms with no related criminal activity, firearms surrendered as conditions of bail truly illegal guns? These types just inflate your numbers making your crime fighting efforts seem bigger than life. Its called firearms used in a commission of a crime. Firearms are not illegal per se, but lawfully obsessively regulated and the conditions of ownership controlled. Firearms are illegally possessed by criminals, not illegal based on their mere existence with a few exceptions. Each and every firearm in oppressive communist countries and countries with rigidly controlled dictatorial regimes are illegal.

Can we trust Garry? He has a record of undercounts for bad numbers, inflating the good numbers, obfuscation, double speak, cherry picking statistical time frames and redefining what is and what isn’t measured to fit the agenda driven statistics for public consumption? Or is it really a deceptive behavior on display to put his less than successful efforts in the best light possible?

$500 each?? The CPD use to count BB guns as recovered firearms. Do they still do that? Many of the guns taken are junk, many are stolen and should be returned to their owners and still some were used in crimes and need to be held as evidence.

Over 30 years on the job I have seen a lot of guns come in and a few were museum pieces, some were RTO but a lot of them were cheap R.G.s , Saturday Night Specials or rusted junk.

Include this in your press indoctrination or press conferences, Mr. Superintendent. How about you highlight criminal charges attributed to these illegal firearms noting how many illegal possessors were actually charged? What percentage of recovered guns actually resulted in arrests? How many illegal possessors had valid or were eligible for FOID cards?

Explain to the public in lay mans terms the current academically inspired social justice doctrines and how the Cook County justice system applies said principles adhering to the national agenda of the extreme left wing.

Identify the rates of recidivism for current and past firearm violators. Identify past criminal histories with their associated criminal case outcomes including actual time served versus the actual time sentenced. Examine the propensity of these recidivists to commit similar crimes over and over again putting the taxpaying public at risk and why long actually served prison terms give relief to the law abiding.

Denounce a porous national border which allows controlled substances such as heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine and cannabis by the truckloads to reach the streets through international cartels. Explain how this failed, broken economy drives youths to sell illegal narcotics and why firearms are acquired illegally to control their turf, to counter robbery threats and to eliminate competition by murder. Lots of non-taxable currency derived from street level sales fuels the everyday violence we read about. Identify failed illegal gun running eradication efforts citing A.T.F’s Fast and Furious program as example how not to get the job done.

Now that would really educate the public. Its just a start. This education may have negative consequences for current officeholders in the next election and provide hope and opportunity for change for other than the party in charge office seekers. If people really knew how the games are played, it would certainly overturn the criminal justice apple cart

At least a year away.
FOP and city haven't even had any productive meetings. Thats months away. After they agree on 90% of the contract they go to arbitration for the rest. Little rundown on arbitration from a guy whos been thru a few.
Ask for a list of issues that both city and FOP agree on to arbitrate.
Weeks. Then get a list of arbitrators and start eliminating them until only one os left Weeks to a month. With new arbitrator ask him to set up dates for city and FOP to give their cases. Month to 2 months After cases are heard set dates for rebuttals by both the city and FOP months. After that arbitrator is given at least 60 days to give a ruling
FOP brings and explains ruling to members and has them vote 1 month usually more. If agreed on city has to agree and bring it before the city council for a vote. Usually 2 months. Now you see why its a year away.

My favorites are the tact team tactical Barbies who run around the station showing off photos of some firemans gun collection they grabbed after his old lady decided to "out" him, probably for fucking another broad.

Even some of the guys strut around like they just busted Tony Montana.

Thats where a lot of their bullshit numbers come. That and gun buy outs where any and all shit heads can exchange their broken guns, or guns already used in crimes, for a little rock money.

Whats kind of surprising however is how even this mind fucked public is starting to catch on to their little numbers games. Well...maybe.

One reason is that Daley wanted no part of the IROCC and he wanted it to be difficult for the retirees. Remember you used to have to get CPD employment verification from the pension fund because CPD wouldnt give it. That has now changed. He also wouldnt allow you to use the CPD ranges and as I have to do is travel to Joliet to qualify. The funding is not there. The IROCC is funded completely by the fees paid by the retirees and that covers the building, employees and all the paperwork. That might be the difference in the fees.
As far as the one year to five years the only explanation is that some police retire say at 60 and as they age every five years might not be a good idea. With the civilians they can carry concealed at any age over either 18 or 21. Just my thoughts.
