- At least a dozen people were shot between Monday afternoon and early this morning on Chicago's West and South sides, including four men wounded in the Little Village neighborhood, police said.
That's a sizable number for a Monday night. But don't worry - Tommy Skilling says we'll be in the 50 degree range for the next few days.
Not that weather has anything to do with crime.

CIS detailed the document’s findings in a report Monday morning, explaining that ICE prepared the document in response to congressional inquiries seeking additional information about the number of criminal aliens released into the United States and the crimes for which they were convicted.
Smith was one of the members of Congress who pressed DHS for these answers.
The congressman actually did receive a response from DHS earlier this year explaining that ICE did release 36,007 criminal aliens. DHS also included a breakdown of the kinds of offenses but did not include the number of offenses per type of crime.
“Obama administration officials want the American people to think these individuals were guilty of minor, petty offenses,” Smith said. “But the convictions tell a chilling story. Among those released were criminal immigrants convicted of murder, rape, kidnapping, drunk driving, and aggravated assault.

SPRINGFIELD — A judge put the state’s pension reform law on hold today at the request of unions and other groups challenging the constitutionality of the far-reaching overhaul of the public worker retirement systems.
A temporary restraining order was issued by Judge John Belz in Sangamon County Circuit Court. Several lawsuits have been filed by retirees and a union coalition known as We Are One.
The groups bringing the lawsuits requested a delay in the June 1 implementation because they argued the law, which scaled back benefits and raised the retirement age, could not meet constitutional muster.
Under the Illinois Constitution, public employee pensions are a “contractual relationship” with benefits that cannot be “diminished or impaired.”

First they don't go to the range weekly for practice and then go practice their gun handling skills.
The main reason is that it's easier to shoot at a target than at a human who is moving and might be armed. Ypu thomk its easy just to shoot at someone when looking out for the police or shooting quickly without much aim because you want to get off the first shot.

It is a common myth that just because a person is shot that they will end up dying. Or they will bleed to death quickly. Most of the time victim's are shot with a 9mm or even a higher caliber ammmo. But if a person is shot then they will die if they are shot multiple times at a close range. If they are shot once to three times then chances are they are going to live. If they are shot directly at vital organs then they will die or bleed out. Also modern day technology has a lot to do with saving the lives of a person who was in critical condition.
Crime in the city could be way down, just change the city limits! Maybe give some of the south & west away? Bingo... Crime is down!

Give a 122 pound 16 year old a .40 he can barely hold up, how do you think his accuracy is going to be? They also know they will never see jail time for shooting to wound. If they wind up killing someone though, they risk the possibility of a citizen finally coming to their senses a year or two down the line and "snitching" on them.
They also have no legit reason to shoot each other 90% of the time. This aint the 80s and 90s, they aren't shooting over drug territory no matter what the media and Garry says. If it was over money more than 10% of the time, innocents would hardly ever catch bullets and it would be point blank head shots like the killings Baltimore is dealing with for instance.
You also have to take into affect the world of medicine today compared to 20 years ago and where it stands in keeping people alive

Many things are attributed to the low kill rate. Its not like in the movies. No training, drive by shooting at moving targets takes lots if coordination. First and foremost (and thanks) it is the excellent Emergency Medical Service provided by our Chicago Fire Department and Emergency Rooms. The medicine learned that has been learned on battlefields from Lexington-Concord to Afghanistan has saved more lives in any time period than any of McNumbnuts' brilliant strategies.
Sometimes it called handing out a "violation"; a gang member may be disciplined by his own gang and get a, "cap busted in his ass".
Other times it is a warning from one gang to another as a warning for a minor territorial trespass, not enough to kill and start a war over but as a stern warning.
In these types of shootings the "victim" usually wants nothing to do with the police and the case is a dead end for the git-go.

Better EMS response time (CFD engines now have paramedics)
and excellent ER medical treatment.
ER teams put GSW victims into induced comas and lower their body temps in order to slow down the gun wound trauma. It's working pretty well.

that means that if he was out at 2 then he must've have been out at, at least 9pm, and you know its "all about the children" so if he crossed one of them school zones and you were going over 20mph- BAM they got you and 9.5 will be just happy happy happy.... so there is a positive side to this( if you're the mayor) which in reality is a negative to the rest of the population

You really believe the law abiding citizens are winning this one?!?! How many guns were confiscated from people who paid for their permits/etc.? My guess is zero to none. I'm not a cop, not a statistician, I'm just a regular citizen asking for your truly honest opinion. The hard working, law abiding citizens are currently paying for their medical bills, their food and shelter on 26th & Cal., & and don't even get me started on Section 8 and other benefits...! Do yourself a favor and do not look at your paystub cuz u'll probably puke when u realize all the $$ that's being withheld to provide for these people. Ok, that's all.

the term hairgel cam around 2004 or 2005. well, I have noticed, many of them now have almost 10 years on.. thats getting fairly respectable time. the reason I thought of this is because of what I have noticed about several ppo's and newer guys (less than 3 years) when they are off duty. The men (boys) are wearing skinny jeans and the fake "stylish" glasses... yeah, not just one kid but a few of them in skinny jeans, at a watch party. WTF!!!! So is the hairgel era coming to an end due to an influx of a newer generation? Do we have a name yet for the skinny jean wearing freaks on this job now??? What have "men" these days become

you sir are correct. Kids on this job these days look like little weenies. not even hair gel's just strange, skinny wierdos. I totally get what your talking about though with the hot colors, fake glasses and skinny jeans. Have seen both a female ppo and male ppo wearing skinny jeans and overly tight shirts. The female ppo looked awesome, the male ppo, well he looked like a girl. A new nickname is needed for people with under 3 years on the job... a new contest?????

well played. I agree. The hair gels are growing up, getting married and having kids and getting the my life is f'ed disheveled look. you know, like what my life is now. I too have noticed the young kids these days are wearing "hot" colors and fake glasses and really overly tight jeans.. or yes, skinny jeans. definatly a new breed of kids on the job these days. Hair gel does not describe them good enough anymore.

I guess I'm part of the gel era but every now and then I slap on some pomade and drink an ensure as a form of tipping my cap to our vets.Bring back second city detective and second city sarge blogs or my fav SLC.I'd still take one fleet footed jump out boy over four of these impact paper passing legends.

When the fifties were coming to an end, and the city made big advances toward police reform, with pay raises and implementation of the FBI's UCR, I'm sure there were a bunch of dinosaurs muttering on about how only the real coppers who served in WWII and had grown up during the depression were fit to be called real men and real coppers.
The first baby boomer cops born after WWII probably had to deal with those born before them, and so on...
Go back to any old news article and find photos of the freaks wearing badges and uniforms in this city during the bell-bottom and afro days. The black cops look like the O-Jays, the white cops all look like Mr. Kotter and the Hispanic cops look like Freddie Prinze.
If you're under the impression that cops have always been Clutch Cargo lookalikes, you are living in a made-up world that never existed.
