Hey Look - Burge Was Right Again
Once again, someone tied to Burge freed for questionable reasons, ends up back behind bars:
- A convicted felon who said he was forced to confess to a pair of murders because he was tortured by former Area 2 Chicago Police Cmdr. Jon Burge’s underlings was back behind bars Tuesday for allegedly failing to register as a violent offender.
Victor Safforld maintained his innocence when he was released from prison in 2010 even though he pleaded guilty to one of the 1990 gang-related murders.
Safforld, now 43, said he only admitted to killing Curtis Sims so he could start a new life as a free man as soon as possible.
So he pled guilty to one count so he could get a free skate on the others? That's just great.
But he's been on the straight and narrow since then? All clean?
But he's been on the straight and narrow since then? All clean?
- Judge Peggy Chiampas ordered Safforld held in lieu of $750,000 Tuesday for failing to register as a violent person.
However, the judge also ordered him held without bail for violating conditions of his bond for a pending forgery case in Cook County.
Safforld also has a pending forgery case out of DuPage County, Molesky said.
Well, it's good he found a trade while he was spending time in prison we suppose.

Now they teach the Palmer method of cursive writing in the joint?
See, rehabilitation works, now he's only committing non-violent crimes.
He can write? Something accomplished.
And some of you young guns buy into the medias &
McCarthys bullshit about Burge.
Ask yourself how often does a Lt or a commander of an area have direct involvement in interviewing murder suspects?
Anyone who was arrested & charged with murder during Burges tenure is claiming "torture".
Just another version of the ghetto lottery.
What a shame!
maybe I read the article wrong, but it seemed as though the asshole was given a new trial because he was "tortured" into confessing. At the new trial, HE WAS CONVICTED AGAIN WITHOUT THE CONFESSION but the judge gave him a 40 year sentence…in other words, time served. The paper downplayed this by just slipping in that after the second trial, the judge sentenced him to 40 years instead of life…which must mean he was convicted of the same crime again! But the media would rather focus on the fact that a murderer was convicted of murder during (wait for it) THE BURGE ERA!!!! Typical. The thing that pisses me off about Burge is that those detectives took the easy route. Most (if not all) of these assholes were GUILTY, and could have been proven so the right way…instead, they are all out and about because some lazy cops did it wrong. Oh well...
I just finished reading Martin Preib's book: "Crooked City."
He exposed the Northwestern University attackers of Jon Burge and the CPD as the soulless people they really are. The whole movement against "wrongful convictions" was driven either by soft-headed ideology (police are bad, violent felons are oppressed) or simply evil greed.
Buy a copy. Give it a read. Preib deserves to make a boatload of money for his hard work. I especially liked the part about the inner tube.
Kind of depressing but I will encourage my liberal relatives to read it hoping they might be cured of their leftitis.
RJC, ret.
Oh hey, since he's back calling the shots maybe the "unpaid intern" could float a blank check out the window on Washington for this guys defense?
Please Read The Book "Crooked City"
I was thinking maybe Northwestern coupled with Loevy & Loevy could get Commander Burge a new trial that would overturn his conviction and then he can sue the City and make a boatload of $$$.
What goes around, comes around...right?
To 8:29 AM. Well said. None of the officers on the job now days could relate to the work of Jon Burge. one of the nest bosses to come along. You are also correct on the fact the no Sgt. or Lt. would ever get hands on in a homicide investigation for fear of being named in a case report and have to go to court.

There was a very liberal judge years ago, Judge Saul Epton. He was liberal until the day when he got mugged by a thug and had the shit knocked out of him. Then he became a conservative hanging judge. He worked in North Side Boys Court, 937 N Wood St., 2nd floor.
