How About an Apology Garry?

McStreetlightAssassin was going on and on about how guns are bad and no one should have them and Concealed Carry will only lead to bloodshed and more guns on the street. Then he claims that this specific gun was legal but became illegal by being stolen from an automobile and boy, wasn't that a dumb decision to store a gun in a car?

Yesterday, the actual story came out:
  • Before the 14-year-old girl allegedly fired the shot that killed Endia Martin, the .38 caliber revolver had touched many hands.

A south suburban gun shop known for selling weapons later used in crimes in Chicago. A Hyde Park man whose mother did not want the gun in their home. A former Atlanta man now living on the South Side who would appear to be a middleman of sorts in the gun’s journey. The paralyzed uncle of the 14-year-old girl who, prosecutors charged, rode the bus to give the gun to his niece before the fatal confrontation. Someone at the 14-year-old’s side at the confrontation who was savvy enough to quickly fix a malfunctioning gun.
Not quite a "straw purchase," but after being bought legally, it was transferred to another without the required background check. That isn't the fault of legit gun owners. Then that person got it to the paralyzed uncle, who was crippled in a previous shooting and has numerous suspected gang ties. Again, not the fault of legit gun owners.

In fact, we have a hard time believing that he was in the dark about the direction the investigation of the weapon was taking. Someone posted in our comment section a couple days ago:
  • Anonymous said...The gun wasn't stolen. False police report. You'll hear something in the next few days about it.

    4/30/2014 05:35:00 PM
But here's Garry, blaming an unnamed gun owner for daring to leave his gun in the car - a shortsighted option authorized by the legislature because of all the places you aren't allowed to carry, and it was never true.

If Garry was that in the dark, he ought to remove the Detective Division command staff. If he had knowledge, he ought to be raked over the coals until an apology is forthcoming by the ISRA and NRA people.

And did everyone notice how crippled uncle got the gun to the 14-year-old shooter?
  • The paralyzed uncle of the 14-year-old girl who, prosecutors charged, rode the bus to give the gun to his niece before the fatal confrontation.
That CTA restriction on Concealed Carry is working out great, isn't it? Don't forget to leave your gun in the car while the gang banger on four wheels transports firearms to kids to settle girl fights.

OT......... not just The White Sox and U.S. Cellular Field. They won't let you bring your gun into Soldier Field and United Center either. The NFL has had this policy for years, and everyone has to comply or they are denied admittance, Feds included. (The Bears and Soldier Field were the last to comply). Eventually all Major League Baseball Stadiums will have the same policy if they don't already
##############

Soldier field is a PaRk owned and operated by the Chicago park District maybe if the FOP would have filed suit against the NFL and Chicago park District like was suggested the police would have had an exemption the NFL can't force people to be searched on public property.....

Seems there was a lot of flipping going on about the acquisition of the gun.

Girl flips on by-stander and uncle. Uncle flips on seller.

McDumnfuck opens mouth to only look like a fool later.

A law is passed to stop legit people from carrying firearms on public conveyances and it is the bad guy who ignores the law.

"I gots other relatives in there too". A proud family to be sure. If only the explosion had taken out more than just two.

OT --

The fambly of deceased shotgun-blaster, 86-year-old Joe Huff, and the revs and "community activists" and lawyers have rallied around Huff's wife, who is astonishingly upright once more even after catching three slugs when she went to take up the gun she had called to have brought out.

All jammed together to get as many into the camera's face as they can. "The po-lice lady was the one th'owin rocks and dirt over da fence!" shouts some fat thing.

"Yeah! That's right!" The assemblage moans and sways and waves copies of multiple lawsuits being filed...

Even if he apologized, it's too late; the damage is done, due to his misinformed/dis-informed statement.

This story will be buried inside the paper.

The original appeared on page 1 of the Sun Times, along with a sidebar saying words to the effect; "McCarthy says stricter gun laws would've prevented this."

It's all spin.

Thank you SCC for pointing this out to your readers, particularly the media who reads your blog. Garry and the rest of the political elite have repeatedly tried to demonize those who have or are working towards getting their Illinois Firearms Concealed Carry License (FCCL). They have called us gun nuts and said we are out of touch with reality and my favorite, that the streets will run red with blood from all of the licensed carriers. Of course none of that has come to fruition. We just want to be able to protect ourselves, our family and our property from the crazies and criminals. To obtain our licenses we have invested a lot of money and time to ensure we follow all of the laws that these same politicians have made us jump through so we make an extra effort to ensure we follow all of the laws pertaining to firearms even though those same politicians lie to the media to demonize us.

O had it right when he said we need more mental health support when talking about the most recent Fort Hood shooting, but I think that was his teleprompoter inserting truth not BHO.

In fact I'd go one step further and require any gun owner to check voter records prior to a sale so as to ban any future sales to registered democrats. They seem to be at high risk for committing acts of violence with firearms.

Excellent point SCC. This hopefully will prove to anyone paying attention that no matter what gun laws we have on the books fuckers like this guy and all involved in the gun's movement don't care about the law.

Garry, everybody KNOWS you read this blog. Not a copper here, but I'm a legit conceal carry licensee.

You blame the f'ed up IL gun laws that force legit owners to store guns in their automobiles but the question is do YOU store your gun before you go out with your wife for dinner and you see that stupid "No Gun Sticker" on the restaurant door? Or what about going to the grocery that had the sign? Do you walk back to your car and store your gun? Or what about getting on the bus? Do you leave your gun at home when you hop on the CTA?

No you don't. You are exempt from the idiotic legislation. In previos years instead of wasting taxpayer money to travel to Springfield to lobby against the law allowing conceal carry, you should have been lobbying FOR the rights of IL and Chicago residents.

You didn't even secure the rights of retired Leos from carrying into prohibited zones! That proves to your own men and women working under you that your a politician worried about pleasing your superior, Rahm, you're not a top cop!

When he throws you under the bus this summer for the spike in crime, realize you are just a pawn. He needs to get rid of you before he makes any moves for Hillary.

My suggestion is you come clean with the people of Chicago and speak your mind. He's going to fire you anyhow. Shake things up a bit and just tell people what you really think before he asks you to resign.

NRA just won a case where residents were prohibited from possessing firearms in public housing. That's public housing though, so a private landlord may be able to prohibit you. If the lease doesn't mention no firearms, the landlord probably can't just add that as a restriction to an existing contract.

Gary "The Gasman" McCarthy

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaslighting

Gaslighting is a form of mental abuse in which false information is presented with the intent of making a victim doubt his or her own memory, perception and sanity.[1] Instances may range simply from the denial by an abuser that previous abusive incidents ever occurred, up to the staging of bizarre events by the abuser with the intention of disorienting the victim.

http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/power-in-relationships/200905/are-you-being-gaslighted

Are you being Gaslighted?

[...[..The Gaslight Effect happens over time - gradually - and, often, by the time you are deep into the Gaslight Tango (the dance you do with your gaslighting partner, where you allow him to define your reality) you are not the same strong - or not so strong - self you used to be. In fact, your ego functioning has been compromised and, no longer being certain of your reality, you are not often able to accurately identify when something is "off" with your partner.

The process of gaslighting happens in stages - although the stages are not always linear and do overlap at times, they reflect very different emotional and psychological states of mind.

The first stage is disbelief: when the first sign of gaslighting occurs. You think of the gaslighting interaction as a strange behavior or an anomalous moment. During this first stage, things happen between you and your partner - or your boss, friend, family member - that seem odd to you....

[...]...The next stage is defense: where you are defending yourself against the gaslighter's manipulation. Think about it - you tell your boss, for example, you are unhappy with the assignments you have been getting; you feel you are being wrongly passed over for the best assignments --- you ask him why this is happening. Instead of addressing the issue, he tells you that you are way too sensitive and way too stressed..... well, maybe you are sensitive and stressed, but, that doesn't answer the question of why you are being passed over for these better assignments. But, rather than leave it at that - or redirect the conversation - you start defending yourself - telling your boss you are not that sensitive or stressed -- or, that the stress doesn't interfere with your ability to work. But, during this stage, you are driven crazy by the conversation.... going over and over, like an endless tape, in your mind.

What's worse, is that these kind of conversations characterize your relationship more and more. You can't stand that your boss sees the situation like that and you work even harder on the assignments you find boring, even demeaning, just to prove that you are not overly sensitive and stressed out.

The next stage is depression: By the time you get to this stage you are experiencing a noticeable lack of joy - and, you hardly recognize yourself anymore. Some of your behavior feels truly alien. You feel more cut off from friends - in fact, you don't talk to people about your relationship very much - none of them like your guy. People may express concern about how you are and you are feeling -- they treat you like you really do have a problem. One of the example....

"What if you orready CCW. Can the landlord force eviction?"

Not an attorney, but it seems that if it is in the rental agreement that no guns are allowed and a tenant breaks that rule then their could be consequences including eviction if that is laid out in the rental agreement. They own the property and can set the rules (its a private business, not a government entity). If a tenant does not like it they are free to move out at end of current rental term. Or a potential tenant should not move in.

The only questionable area is for existing tenants who already signed a rental agreement that does not expire before August. That would require consulting an attorney.

This is no different than a businesses that bans carry in their establishment. However, if enough people stop going, the business owner may change their mind. Or if an incident occurs on the property and you could not defend yourself, time to let the lawsuits fly.

Well I guess they believe that off duty police should not carry guns. If that is what they believe than I will not go and support them and give them revenue. Watch the games at home and save money. Texas respects the police, only state with exception to NFL policy. When some nut job or terrorist begins killing people good luck because none of the security carry guns either. They try to get one armed off duty at the games at united center at each gate, but don't do it dummy. The department will not indemnify you and the management there will not either, you will be on your own. By the time an on duty police officer arrives the perp will have already run out of bullets.

I have heard that business associations have been pressured by their attorneys to post these prohibition signs to limit their liability. I would think that the liability would be the other way around if a citizen is unarmed because of these prohibitions and then is robbed or hurt by an armed criminal. Something tells me that this situation will get better with time but right now the anti gunners are making it difficult for CCW and they know it.

Don't believe it. While it is possible to place RF transmitters in an object, they would have to be very small in order to get into a beat tag and the battery life would be very short. Everything runs on power. Hard to believe that someone would be that upset over a few stolen beat tags. The entire beat tag idea is asinine in the first place. I have never seen this in any other city that I have traveled. That is what car number on the body are for.

So a building owner wants to deprive a citizen of their 2nd amendment rights to own a firearm? I would contact the Illinois State Rifle Association and the NRA.I would guess they would want to do something about this. I have also heard many condo associations are also considering a ban. Is this what we have come to??Now if I live in this building I cannot even have a rifle for hunting let alone a handgun?

Cities and towns have tried banning guns outright or defacto, and they were beaten down by the Supreme Court. These stupid landlords are going to get the same beatdown. Don't know how it will go for the property managers and buildings in terms of keeping CCW out, but the residential properties are on shaky ground banning tenant ownership/possession.

OT but received this in the weekly newsletter from the Alderman's office:
Pension Reform without Tax Hike

I recently met with the Vice-President of the Illinois Policy Institute, Ted Dabrowski and Benjamin VanMetre, a Senior Budget & Tax Policy Analyst, to discuss their program of pension reforms without raising property taxes.

The Illinois Policy Institute has developed an alternative plan that doesn't rely on more taxes. The core of the solution is a "hybrid" retirement plan for government employees. Their plan provides workers with a self-managed plan and monthly "social security" like benefits. It also makes retirement costs a stable and predictable portion of city budgets, bringing Chicago's pension debt under control immediately, and ends Springfield's ability to dictate Chicago pension payments.

During our discussions in City Council, we've heard ideas such as a "commuter-tax," the use of "TIF" funds, and a "congestion" fee on drivers entering the City of Chicago. The other idea looming in Springfield is for Quinn to share proceeds of the State Income Tax increase with the City of Chicago.

Whatever the decision, whether it's a combination of a tax levy, a commuter tax, or even a portion of each, if nothing else, provides the necessary funds to bring the pension unfunded liability to a level we can all live with. A property tax hike may be part of the solution, but we all strongly believe it's not the answer to the solution totally.

We hope we can come up with a long-term solution that benefits Chicago and its' government employees.

Sincerely,
Ariel E. Reboyras
Alderman, 30th Ward

Rookie! If you are looking to start a rumor, you have to be credible. No science fiction nonsense.

If you ever want to graduate to the big leagues, follow these simple rule:

a) start small and build on it later

b) never ever use the same vernacular - mix it up with multiple postings using different language at different times with varying intelligence levels like misusing your and you're - people notice that and it drives them crazy

c) pick a target people want to hate like the Mayor or the boss of the day

d) pick a scary topic like the pension or overtime

e) repeat the rumor at work like you just heard it from some other District or Unit

f) spread that rumor at VRI or Special so it goes city wide

g) never use "heard it at 35th street" - that jumped the shark years ago

h) think of a clever handle to embarrass your friends

i) sit back and laugh at the mayhem

"I have started to notice those signs that prohibit guns popping up on many business doors. I have heard that business associations have been pressured by their attorneys to post these prohibition signs to limit their liability. I would think that the liability would be the other way around if a citizen is unarmed because of these prohibitions and then is robbed or hurt by an armed criminal. Something tells me that this situation will get better with time but right now the anti gunners are making it difficult for CCW and they know it."

Totally agree, it's a definite liability if you're forcing people to forego their otherwise-legal right to self-defense. ISP says it's ok, but building owner somehow knows better?

I spoke with a building manager about their policy, at MB. She was snippy and obviously very anti-gun. She stated that she thought I should "know" based on my "supposed" training how the law works. Had to explain that I know how the LAW works, just curious why they'd enact a stupid-but-legal policy.

She also told me, when I asked how the signs would keep criminals with guns out, that the signs "work just like metal detectors at courthouses and stadiums". I kid you not, exact words..."just like metal detectors". They must be based off the same technology built into the new beat tags.

You can shove your fucking 401k bullshit up your ass along with the hedge fund cocksucker looking to rape us all on pension skimming forever.

You really think we're that fucking stupid to turn a protected and relied upon benefit and what is DEFERRED COMPENSATION into a fucking "portfolio" that you and your fucking buddies can skim away into nothing?

We paid our fucking share numbnuts, people like YOU did NOT pay your lawful share.

You wanna put NEW HIRES into your "hybrid theft" plan feel free pal. But you can go fuck yourself if you think those of us who've paid years and decades into our fucking pension fund are gonna let people like YOU con us into shitting on ourselves in our retirement.

Only a fucking idiot would ever consider giving up their retirement for a constantly changing monthly benefit that can and will dry up thanks to the skimmers out there.

Your "Illinois Policy Institute" is nothing more than a fucking political hack tool of the corporate tax thieves to try and press bullshit pension policy that fucks employee's security for the sake of freeing up more fucking tax dollars to give away to the fucking corporate welfare clan, the very scum that control your bullshit policy institute.

We're not giving up shit maynard..... we have a contractually protected benefit and we're not gonna give it up so fuckers like you can continue pissing away our tax dollars on your fucking connected buddies.

TIFF is ILLEGAL in several states.... it is documented theft of tax dollars by diversion from their intended purpose to enrich the already rich at our expense. Your fucking TIFF will be your undoing... because as long as people like you steal tax dollars for your fucking speculator buddies to get rich on this city can NEVER attempt a bankruptcy.

So, once more with feeling, FUCK your bullshit sales job pal, we're not giving up what you fucking owe, you can kill your fucking TIFFS and this bullshit is over.

if it's rental or leased, they can do it once your current agreement is up. if it's a condo you own, the few legal opinions out there suggest the HOA cannot prevent you from having a handgun in your unit but, that rules can be passed by the HOA to prevent carrying in the common elements. too hard to enforce. and most HOAs don't want the eye sore of the mandatory 'no hand gun' stickers.

"..Can your landlord evict you being a license CCW?An notification was posted..."
– NO. How is your lease written? Did you violate the lease agreement? Posting a flyer is not a legally binding document. Does a flyer tell you you can't bring in bedbugs, Dr. Pepper or an ax murderer? Besides, don't tell- even if they ask. Its Your Constitutional Right.
- and also:
"... reliable source from I.A.D. has informed me that the new beat tags ...will have RF Signal Trackers hidden inside of them."
— no they won't. RF's Do Not Track like GPS. RF's are read at the point of the reading device, like an automatic swipe card, hold it up to the reader & it records. Like SpeedPass, CTA Ventra, etc. and it's too expensive to put them on a few tags anyway. They'd still turn up missing. They should secure the tags on the inside of the back window if they're so concerned about them, or have the bosses swipe the RF'ed tags across the reader when the come in to the station to monitor them.

Send copies of this letter to the NRA and other pro-gun-ownership organizations. This is a hot one.

What next -- banks refusing home loans to firearms owners? Homeowners' associations and gated communities banning guns?

"Me today, you tomorrow." Guaranteed.

This is one hell of a slippery slope. It's really breaking down into flat-out discrimination based upon income, assets, and resources. A person with an automobile can be safe on his way to work, a person who rides the bus can't. Now a person who owns a home can be safe in his residence, but someone who rents an apartment can't.

The Second Amendment is for everyone. So is the "natural law" of the right to self-defense.

What a load of shit.

You don't need a CCW license to possess a firearm in your "legal dwelling."

"(g) A licensee shall possess a license at all times the

"(a-10) The owner of private real property of any type may

Warning to the coppers in 025. Downtown is pissed about the thieves that have stolen supervisors beat tags. A very reliable source from I.A.D. has informed me that the new beat tags being given to the bosses will have RF Signal Trackers hidden inside of them. The plan is to jam up the cops stealing the tags and bringing charges for theft of city property. Don't get caught or lose your job over joking around. It's not worth it for your family or financial well. .......... It will blow over the Sgts are decent and the new ones seem good as well. Take it easy on 2 things

Contact a lawyer familiar in condo law. Another stupid condo rule, The enforcement will be a problem, how do they enforce it? No more condos for me due to shit like this.
----
Used to sit on a condo board. This is where smoke meets mirrors. Enforcement can be in terms of fines. If you refuse to pay said fines, the board can tack on late fees and more fines. You do not pay, then what?... The board hires an attorney, who then tries to get you to pay the full amount, then a partial amount, then if nothing else, places a lein on your condo which states before you can sell, payment must go to board by either you or the buyer in order to close the sale. Tell the board to have fun. That was a shit show.

Not allow Concealed Carry.
The form states that my intention was to spend
X amount of dollars at your business , but due
To the fact that no firearms are allowed , I
Will spend my money elsewhere.
These idiots have to know how much money
They are losing, and I encourage everyone else

Apparently, someone forgot to post signs on that street, "Safe Passage- No Guns Allowed", that would have solved the problem, for sure! And another one on the CTA bus- "No Guns Allowed". Of course, there should also be a sign posted, "Only People Who Can Read Allowed To Board", but then half of the south and west side population would simply claim, truthfully, that they could not read. Speaking of solving problems, what has GMac really done about Chicago's spiraling, out of control crime problem? Fewer cops on the street, shifting valuable personnel assets around like a shell game: ("Where's the police officer, District A, B, or C?" None of his "strategies" (Ha Ha!) seem to be working, so maybe the Rahm-hole needs to be looking for a replacement, or come up with yet some more hare-brained schemes (like more "no-notice/hidden/surprise!!!" speed trap cameras, ie: Central + Berteau; maybe green light cameras, too?

http://www.lakefrontrealtygroup.com/Concealed-Carry-the-Residential-Landlord

"As an attorney, I wanted to share my opinion with you..."

"Question: As a landlord, can I prohibit my tenants from keeping firearms in their apartment?

"Answer: No. The United States Supreme Court has consistently maintained that the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution gives citizens the right to keep a firearm in their home. Further, the Illinois Concealed Carry Act now gives Conceal Carry permit holders the right to carry firearms outside of the home. Put the two of these together, and I believe that the tenant with a Concealed Carry permit also has a lawful right to carry that firearm from his car directly to his apartment, and from his apartment directly to his car. Same thing goes for a Concealed Carry permit holder entering or leaving the building on foot: directly from the entrance to the apartment, and directly from the apartment to the exit. I believe that any attempt by a landlord to interfere with these scenarios would be unenforceable.

"Question: As a landlord, can I prohibit my tenants from carrying firearms in common areas of the building, such as a laundry room, party room, swimming pool or health club?

"Answer: Yes, so long as it does not does not interfere with it does not interfere with the right of the tenant to carry directly to and from his apartment, as discussed in the answer to the previous question. And any prohibition would need to be specific to a particular place (e.g. the laundry room, etc.) and not to a particular person."

I can't count the number of rapes and robberies that have occurred in apartment building laundry rooms. They can be dangerous places, especially for a woman alone -- exactly where one would need one's defensive firearm.

...but the landlord wants to be safe everywhere.

"Question: As a landlord, can I carry a gun while going about my business as a landlord, doing such things as collecting rents, showing apartments, and tending to repairs?

"Answer: Yes, if you have a Conceal Carry License."

Question: Does this also extend to "landlord's agents and employees?" Is the guy who unjams the toilet also going to be armed now? The cable installer hired off God-knows-what street corner?

Does a tenant have the right to decide who can carry firearms into his private residence?

This is just as valid a point for renters as it is for homeowners -- unless the First-Class Citizen/Second-Class Citizen system currently laid out in the Illinois CCW law is going to expand.

Will you be safe while walking or biking? Not sure, but under "prohibited areas," we see --

"(13) Any public park, athletic area, or athletic
facility under the control of a municipality or park
district, provided nothing in this Section shall prohibit a
licensee from carrying a concealed firearm while on a trail
or bikeway if only a portion of the trail or bikeway
includes a public park.
"

I know that in the past bicyclists have been arrested on the Illinois Prairie Path for carrying an unloaded pistol in their bags. You are alone -- care to try the stretch through Maywood?

"(14) Any real property under the control of the Cook
County Forest Preserve District."

Does this include trails as well? How many women have been sexually assaulted on these trails just recently?

Ever stopped for just a minute to use the porta-pot in Schiller Woods? Whoa. Lemme outta here!

Anyway -- SCC, why don't you put a perma-link to this new law up on the front page, to have it easily available so that all can study it.

Well I guess they believe that off duty police should not carry guns. If that is what they believe than I will not go and support them and give them revenue. Watch the games at home...

Question here to this whizzkid: If the Police cant get in/past the metal detectors armed, how's the bad guys gonna' get in with their guns?
AND FOR CHRISSAKE QUIT CALLING THEM 'PERPS'!

I remember a hot summer night along Chicago Ave some years ago near Lawndale when the street looked like the Paralympics was going on with so many GSW dudes racing up and down the sidewalks in their guv'ment supplied motorized wheelchairs.

Bonified, it drew many people from other big cities like NYC and Detroit. I fI remeber correctly, they closed Chicago aav down from Central Park to Cicero. 200,000 came to watch, with vendors, like ELi CHEESECAKE being a sponser. I believe the first year in 1989, a TVL won the Gold. WGN carried the event live.
So special of the day when Bobbie Rush gave the opening G.S.!

Since Chicago ave became the Finacial Center of the Midwest, no more games could be held.

He claims he was a police officer. Police officers know investigations are fluid. If he couldn't resist commenting on an ongoing investigation, he should have said 'we don't comment on ongoing investigations'. But, like Weis, he's attracted to cameras like moths to a flame.
