Interesting Question

One of the cards in the comment section had a humorous question:
  • Will there be more Cubs left on base this weekend or people shot?
Well, we'd have to count a weekend as three games (Fri/Sat/Sun), just to make it fair - 30 base runners in a weekend isn't that rare for the Northsiders.

Yesterday, the Cubs had a big number to live up to:
  • A 32-year-old man was fatally shot this afternoon in afternoon shootings that left nine others wounded across the city today.

All except for two shootings happened between 70th and 79th streets on the city’s South Side, and the people shot ranged in age from 15 to 50.
Well, at least McCompStat knows where the violence boxes ought to be next week.

You give the Cubs too much credit. Their offense is pitiful.

A better question should be whether there will be more fans actually sitting in seats at Wrigley Field than were shot. One look at the games here and you see many many empty seats. The new owners care more about making money than putting a decent team on the field. Go Blackhawks!

Ok, so I laughed at first at the incompetence of the Cubs/Ricketts family, then I realized these are real people we are talking about--the people being shot --not the men being left on base.

I am far from a liberal, but every now and again like many of my fellow officers I am saddened to see the results of the destruction of the family unit being played out daily.

Let's not kid ourselves that this has happened to just one or two neighborhoods. It's throughout the city. Police alone aren't the answer, but with tiny dancer and his sidekick...answers aren't coming soon.

"Well, at least McCompStat knows where the violence boxes ought to be (strike 'next week') next year as the same s__t just goes on and on..."

"It's throughout the city." Uh, no it's not. So no, it's really not "all our problem." In fact, whose problem it is, is pretty clear - we just don't want to talk about it.

Noticed last night watching the news how bad those vines look on the outfield wall. Maybe weather related?
Hope they're not dying...

In the meantime-2pm today for the Blackhawks! Keep us proud!!

Mccarthy doesn't care how many people get killed in Chicago. He was in Wrigleyville Saturday afternoon and night getting his drink on. He couldn't care less about the carnage in Chicago.
