In the Austin neighborhood about 7:13 p.m., a 32-year-old man was shot and dead on the scene in a possible drive-by shooting in the 5200 block of West Quincy Street, said Police News Affairs [...]. A man whose age was not yet available was shot in the right arm, but refused medical treatment and was refused to cooperate with police.
Later, a 30-year-old woman who had been shot multiple times in the same attack, showed up at Loretto Hospital, less than a mile away, but was transferred to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital, Zala said. A fourth person, a 41-year-old man, walked into West Suburban Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his hand but gave police a bogus address before they figured out he had also been shot on Qunicy.
So almost another 20 last night. Crime is down!

Taste closed after a worker was nearly electrocuted in standing water. The City then couldn't guarantee that they could remove all the water and keep everyone safe. Not everything is a conspiracy.
Closure of the Waste was legit. Vendor got jolted while plugging in her wqipment due to standung water. City could not guarentee that the standing water would subside so it was closed.

The company that built the drainage system at Grant Park must have done it in 018 as well. The entire sewer system in the parking lot is collapsing, and there was a foot of standing water throughout the entire lot for the majority of the day. Another quality piece of property that the city owns.

"An Englewood man accused of hitting his girlfriend with a tire iron after the couple ran out of gas was ordered held this afternoon on $500,000 bail.
"Elliot Allen, 35, of the 7000 block of South Sangamon Street, was driving with his girlfriend about 5 a.m. when they ran out of gas in the 4800 block of South Princeton Avenue, Assistant State’s Attorney Bob Groebner said in court.
"The couple began arguing and Allen exited the vehicle, opened the front-side door where his girlfriend was sitting and punched her in the jaw, said prosecutors.
"When she got out of the car, Allen grabbed a tire iron and struck her in the head. He also punched her in the face with a closed fist, Groebner said.
"The victim suffered a fractured skull and nose, bruising to her face and a laceration on her forehead, he said. She remains in serious condition at an area hospital, he said.
"Cook County Judge Judge Peggy Chiampas ordered Allen held on $500,000 bail."

Why all this hoopla about the hammer attack at the Pier? Does anyone think that these things never occurred in the downtown area before? Really?
I worked in 018 in the late 80s/early 90s, and we dealt with all of this crap down there too. The only difference was, a lot of the crap that got really wild was done by suburbanites/out of towners.
Crazy stuff happens everywhere, occasionally. You just have to be prepared to adequately respond to those situations when they occur.
