Blue Ribbons

  • Residents of Mount Greenwood on the city's South Side placed ribbons around trees in a show of appreciation for Chicago Police officers.

It was part of the Blue Ribbon Walk that began at 111th and Kedzie.

The walk honors police officers across the country.
Thanks you ladies and gentlemen. Small gestures mean a lot.

Would like to see Blue Ribbons covering the whole 19th Ward...then the City. City Hall should have Blue Ribbons hanging from its Door-ways...its the least that should be done but it won't happen.

Especially in this day and age. I've had several people walk up to me in the past few weeks and tell me they appreciate what we do. Maybe it was the holidays that made them say it, or maybe the senseless NYPD killings, but there are people out there that appreciate us.

I want to say this to my entire CPD!!! Please! I mean please! Let us all ban together. White-black-Hispanic! Male-female! Gay-straight! Or any other? We are all we have! You wear the CPD shield I will fight for you! All I ask as you fight for me! Please we only have one shot at this life! One time to be the police! Let's get back to some old school police work! And by that I mean we take care of one another. I have worked in many districts and some great units! And the one thing that remains the same. Is that I'm a cop! Some hate me, and some love me! But, I am a cop. Love or hate we are All cops! Please let set aside what separates us and building on a strong brotherhood. Please let's work together on this.

This is 40 years too late, as I mentioned in my previous post.... The legitimacy of the police profession is done, back in the 1950s, those days your average cop made the equivalent of 50 dollars an hour, fast forward 60 years, add "the war on drugs" and you get police officers making half of what they did back in day with 2 side jobs or you get bozo in chicago ridge police department making a whopping $12 dollars an hour. Take a look for yourself.

Let's face it, the only law enforcement entity that anyone trusts anymore is those FBI guys

"Dear Officer,

I want you to know that I see you. I see you choose the booth in the restaurant that allows you to have your back against the wall. I see you walking to your next traffic stop while you hope that it isn’t your last. I see you pulled over, two hours past your shift, as you finish your reports under a street light. I see you as you direct traffic in the scorching heat, the gusting snow, and the downpour of rain. I see you being filmed every time you try to do your job. I see you as you watch mainstream media crucify your character while minimizing your cause. I see that you are tired. I see that you are frustrated and misunderstood. I see that you are hurting as the world watches you bury your brothers and sisters that died because they were guilty of one thing; wearing a uniform with a badge. I see you. I see that you are flesh and bones just like me. I see that you are a human being who has a heart that beats for your calling to serve and protect. I see your cause and I want you to know that I appreciate it..."

Media Reports “NYPD Saluted De Blasio At Funeral”… Now For ‘The Rest Of The Story’…

Last weekend, by some counts, 10,000 of the police present at the funeral of Officer Ramos turned their backs on Mayor de Blasio. Heads on the Left exploded in anger at the ‘rudeness’. Commissioner Bratton warned officers not to do it again this week.

So media was all atwitter over what the police reaction might be at the services for Officer Liu.

It seemed the hatchet might have been buried when multiple media outlets reported that the police had saluted de Blasio at the wake.

Yet, that wasn’t exactly the full story.

Two police officers were stationed at the door to the funeral home. Commissioner Bratton and the First Deputy Police Commissioner Benjamin Tucker were glued on either side of de Blasio as they walked up to the door. The salute by the two officers was for their superior officers as is customary, not a salute directed specifically for de Blasio, and not a reflection of a cooling of tensions.

40 years into the push to de-fang, de-claw and neuter the too big, too bad, too mean, too nasty Police.

20 years too late for the so called "silent majority" of so called upright citizens to set a course of correction.

"We need and support you guys, don't turn your backs on us..."

How can you people fix your mouths to spew such hypocrisy?

Successive tidal waves set in motion by government sponsored corporatists and "too big to fail" financial interests have finally washed the American standard of living out to sea where it sank into the abyss...

A lot of good people lost EVERYTHING they worked their asses off for.

It appeared that the only "survivors" were Policemen, Firemen, Paramedics, Teachers and other such muni-gov/state-gov employees.

Then?

The media propagandists at the behest of their government sponsored corporatist masters, began doing all they could to drive a wedge between these employees and the rest of everybody else from America's formerly formidable and formerly feared Middle Class.

Of particular priority was separating The Police from the public good will...

Artfully crafted yet corrosively propagandist focus/attention on Police pay, benefits, pension etc.

Then the focus shifted to the few bad actors who somehow evaded being weeded out during a pre-employment screening process tainted by clout, favoritism, sheer incompetence and political interference.

We have always said that Policemen aren't perfect and come from the same backwash contaminated pool that the rest of humanity is stewing in...

You hope that every Policeman's moral compass points to "true north."

More or less...

Give or take a degree or three...

Then the attention was focused on Police authority/use of force/rules of public engagement/demeanor...

"You Cops just want to be free to run around unchecked and free to bully, beat and kill young
minority males."

This is a fallacy and an untruth.
So is every argumentation that uses this as a foundation.

Meanwhile?
A deliberate effort to make The Police and Policing go away.

Everybody cheered...

"We don't need you and we dont want to give you what you worked for because we feel you don't deserve it. Shut up and stop thinking so highly of yourselves and give up being so proud, assertive and manly."

A political-media public relations war has been declared on The Police who after a century and a half, SUDDENLY can't do a damned thing right or passingly pleasing in the eyes of the public?

Curious...
No one but The Police was talking about the increasing malignment, slander and outright attacks on The Police from within the department, city hall, the media and in the public sphere.

So...
What happens when The Police are finally fixed?

Will the "silent majority" cheer along with the "joyful haters?"

No one seems to really care about who they're going to have to make friends with now that The Police have been declared as the enemy.

Let's see how things turn out.

Just another old, dumb, heavy-fisted, insensitive, some-kind-of-phobic, racist, "angry cuz it isn't 1960 anymore" cop trying to survive this senseless war...

Respond.
Report.
Repeat.
Retire.
Relocate.

The ribbons are nice, but people who support law and order need to go to court when they get a jury summons. They need to sit on a jury in a criminal case at 26/Cal or in a civil case at the Fed building to put an end to the real war on cops. That would really help a lot.

Yes, the small gestures mean a lot. The silent majority in this country wants peace and tranquility in their neighborhoods and in society at large. Lets not forget our Nation’s Military heroes who are keeping us safe outside the borders.

Our nation is currently in a battle over good and evil. Police are always at fault when intervening and taking action while enforcing criminal law, traffic offenses or restoring order. Officers not only risk their lives, but confront civil lawsuits and prosecution for taking actions to protect one’s life.

The condemnation leveled against the valiant men and women in blue is an orchestrated in concert with the media, numerous doctorate degreed academians, so called in name only religious leaders, marxist/communist agitators, highest elected official, agenda driven so called justice department officials and brainwashed sons and daughters who are actively participating in looting and destruction.

Thank you Mount Greenwood residents and all those all over the country who support the Men and Women in blue who may at any given time lay down their life to make the world a better place. We need to counter those destructive forces which ultimately lead to anarchy and will tear this nation apart. An everyday hello or thank you reminds officers that they are truly appreciated and their efforts are not in vain. Once again Thank You for your kind gestures.

I would say that we as police are too late with this trying to save our neighborhoods, why? because coppers who live in 22,8,16 and work there too have for years failed to police there own neighborhoods, thinking that these were great areas to live, well just take a good hard look at what is happening in all of these nice areas, we have crime, and a lot of it, up in 16 there is a pattern of garage burglaries and home burglaries as well, and with the amount of coppers living up there and driving to and from anywhere not many look around and see anything, same thing in Mt. Greenwood and Garfield Ridge, we all have our money invested in our homes, and when some trash moves in we fail to make life hard for them, we have failed our families, for all who have young teenage sons and daughters, how can they move about without fear, coppers have become what I call the 1st and 16th police, just payday cops, but don't cry when your investment is worth nothing, bang on your aldermans door, and for all you 19th ward people, pester your holier then thou Mike Madigan!!!!!

Of course they support the police. And of course they support them in the area this is mt greenwood ots all coppers and firemen. Most here don't hate cops... Everywhere else hates us. In my mind it's pretty much a waste.. It's all smoke and mirrors when the support the police rally is all police off duty in regular clothes with their wife and kids. I'm sure I'll catch flak for this but think about it. We are just supporting ourselves. How about taking a March downtown? Getting non police residents and businesses downtown Tie ribbons and March.. Won't happen. It's a great thought and all but a waste in my mind.

Saw this in an article last week. Sorry can't remember where but I thought it was worth repeating.

The sheep do not want the dog around. He looks to much like the wolf. He reminds them that danger lurks out there, just beyond the relative safety of the fence.

The wolf also hates the dog. He knows that it is the dog that stands between him and his prey. It is because of the dog that he is lean. The dog is the reason the wolf is forced to stalk the darkness.

The dog knows these facts. Undeterred, he stands watch, ever ready to do battle. Despite that, he is an unwelcome guest in their mists. The dog is ready, at the moments notice, to give his life in defense of his flock. It is simply who he is:

THE POLICE

Just go buy blue plastic tableclothes, cut them up and go tie them. People are just doing it here in mt greenwood. No fixed organization. Take the initiative and others will follow. I went and did a couple of main roads with my kids. Lots of people beep, wave and thumbs up. It's good to see. Word is getting out and it's not just police families. Post it on Fb. Ask your friends and families to do the same. At least it's pushing the media to have to cover how not everyone hates the police like they want to portray. Go tie those ribbons!!!

Hey 12:58? Blow it out your ass. $50 an hour in the '50's? What TV shows have you been watching? Or are you getting your info directly into your aluminum foil helmet.

Trust the Bureau? You are truly a pigeon for propaganda.

1/04/2015 10:13:00 AM

I think they supplemented their incomes on traffic stops. After all, it was the 50's.

1/04/2015 10:38:00 PM

Came on in 1982 and my partner said it was the first year he could stop taking traffic money because we finally got a decent salary.
My starting pay was 17,000/yr. Works out to less than nine dollars an hour, which was a half-dollar more than I was getting at the grocery store job I left to become the police. A far cry from the fifty/hr equivalent you want to claim two decades earlier.

1/04/2015 10:44:00 AM
I'm sorry, but just imagining you putting up a blue ribbon on your tree, your neighbor steals them THEN puts them on their tree, see's you the next day and acts like nothing happened is tickling the hell out my sides right now!!

Honestly 111th street looks tacky... A ribbon every 3 feet. I get it and I appreciate it but everybody at these rallies and ribbon party's are all cops and families anyways.. It's a great thought and all but a waste in my mind

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

Now, Im normally a very positive person. I am a police officer and obviously i am pro police.. duh. but, I can see what this writer is saying. I can guarantee that 95 percent plus of the people at this march were police, wives of police, kids of police or retired. Im sure that there were barely any people who were just there because they just supported the police having no family connection to the police.. Now im sure there were a few, but thats it. All this is, is cops from our neighborhood saying we support ourselves. Or family members saying we support our police family. WHICH IS GREAT!! im not trying to take away from that at all, we need all the friends we can get. But the writer above has a very valid point. We are just supporting ourselves and building ourselves up. Nobody is really giving us support because of this march, its all police anyways!!! We need a march or rally that is made by someone other than a police officer. Organized by citizens, held by citizens and have citizens march in it. Im sorry to say, in this city its not likely. Even evergreen cops showed up to march... thank you so much as they are the police too and they deserve the same respect and support as all police obviously but its still just cops showing up to support themselves. We are kind of being cheerleaders for ourselves... we are patting each-other on the back. I learned a long long time ago... Always be quiet, be humble and dont worry... No matter what you do as a police officer you most likely wont be liked. You never will be and thats not the point of this job.. The point is to silently do good work and help people.... You are silent heros who work in the background and thats Ok. Its actually great advice. Dont do this job to be liked. Dont do it for accolades or to be loved. Do it for your own reasons and to help people. You will be rewarded in the end...
