Spin Again

  • While Chicago ended 2014 with slightly fewer homicides than the year before, 327 more people were shot in the city — an increase of 14 percent, according to the Chicago Police Department.

The city has seen a marked drop in homicides during the past decade — a trend that's been reflected across the country — with several years marking fewer than 500, down from the 900-plus slayings of the 1990s.

Across the city, 407 homicides were recorded in 2014, a 3 percent drop from nearly the same period last year, when there were 419, according to the statistics released Thursday. It was the lowest tally since 1965 when 395 people were slain, according to the department.

Chicago's final homicide tally for 2014 could climb if some of the department's pending "death investigations" are reclassified as slayings later this year.
Of course, HeyJackass.com has slightly different numbers:
  • 2013 - 455; 2014 - 456
That's a plus-one, but we know that HeyJackass counts police shootings as homicides. We don't know if so-called "death-investigations" are in the HeyJackass totals, but they certainly aren't in Garry's. Those will be added in later.

Here's a great sleight-of-hand:
  • When asked Monday about the rise in shooting incidents, police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said the 2014 total was still the "second lowest shooting number on record," and also pointed to the city's overall drop in crime. However, the department only began keeping track of shootings in 2011, after McCarthy was named top cop.
Second lowest....out of four years. Hahahahaha. And no one is touching on the $95 million in overtime that produced an (alleged) drop of 12 homicides. That's about $8 million bucks per killing - money well spent by Rahm you know. And enough to give an actuary a heart attack.

You know modern medical advancements have nothing to do with the homicide rate decrease. Garry gets all the credit. Remember numbers don't count, unless you're counting numbers.

The city does not care about stats anymore.

Everyone worries about what the new fad is:

Icebuckets
Cant breath?
Flash mobs
apple picking
But its all good the masses will dream of a great new year and we shall have more days off cancelled due to manpower.

Off topic. I'm not a cop, but I'm a former resident of Chicago who now lives in Montana. I've posted here before. Against the advice of many here, I did visit Chicago over the holidays. Thankfully, I got out alive, but going back there made me so glad I left and now live in Big Sky Country. I couldn't believe how many wimpy, hipster types I saw in Chicago. These guys probably couldn't use a firearm or any kind of weapon for self-defense if their life depended on it. I think the average rural Montana woman is more manly than your average Chicago (and other big city) liberal, progressive hipster type male. LOL! Tons of Women out here in Montana do all kinds of tough tasks, fix things, hunt, and other difficult stuff. Leaving Chicago and Illinois was probably the best decision I ever made. I do miss the food though. I miss it terribly. I miss Lou Malnatis, Gyros, portillos, and other delicious stuff. That's about the only thing I miss.

To you younger guys who don't have as much invested in the Chicago Police Department. We need good cops out here in Montana. For sure, I know the Montana Highway Patrol is always hiring at various times throughout the year. You may not make as much as you do in Chicago, but you'll get paid decently and things are MUCH cheaper here than in the people's republic of Illinois.

But the article says this is his second marriage? Pretty sure I read on Thee Rant that he was married BEFORE the one he divorced in 2014 and that he cheated on the first one with the one who eventually became number two.
No, it's not life or death, but does anybody know? Did Sneed - gasp - fail to fact-check?

Though this will be changing soon, thanks to the new ultra-liberal mayor, New York City saw its murder count at 328. About 75 fewer murders for a City with ten times the population as Chicago? How can Garry be proud of that?

As another poster pointed out, this lower murder rate has much more to do with the lower population of Chicago (compared to recent decades) and how great trauma medicine is in the USA than Rahm's or Garry's policies.

Yes, I too have been on many scenes and watched the thug take their last breath. You seem to forget when you try and talk to that thug, the statement you usually get is I don't talk to Police of just a simple F#$k You pig. Yes that has happened many times in my career. So, I am a religious man but i tend to disagree with the turn the other cheek attitude you are preaching. A Thug is a thug. God did not want us to live like animals, so I believe you reap what you sow. They make that conscious choice to act like an animal. My view is if it is a thug getting killed by another thug let it be. The only time I care is when it is a good person that was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Be safe my friends.

12 less homicides with 300 + more shootings is not a success.

The projects being taken down is what has dropped homicides.

When they were built in the 60's the homicide rate steadily increased and boomed during the crack craze. After being knocked down the rate went back to pre- high rise numbers.

Give the wrecking ball a ribbin.

You hit the nail on the head, friend. My wife and I talk about the same thing all the time. There are very few real men left in the cities. We spend as much time as possible out of the city in the country where we are happiest, until retirement when we can move for good.

All of these sissy boys in the city with their brainwashed minds are a source of constant amusement to us. Watching them in their skinny jeans sipping their Starbucks is laughable. I even saw one back down from a woman in a bar fight. It was hilarious! Enjoy God's country with real people over there.

I retired after 35 years. I spent most of that time in high crime areas and a lot of holding some rank. I watched aggressive officers literally " burn out" after only a few months of the constant pressure of the street and the bullshit coming from HQ. A lot of people outside the department, and I put the desk jockeys and downtown dollies in that category, just don't understand or care about these stresses. They look at only numbers. The department needs many more officers in their ranks so the cops working in these high crime areas can get frequent time off to spend with their families and de compress. And, I mean more then just the regular weekly days off. I suspect working all of this overtime is causing more stress and health problems. Iwish the mayor would wake up and realize this and hire more cops, if nothing else to ease the mental and physical strain of the working cops.

Never let the truth get in the way of the good spin on the bad news down here in the reality of the festering, filth ridden, ever violent shit-mud that is REAL Chicago...

The place where the lies, mis-statements, factual and statistical gyrations/misdirections/omissions, slippery syntax and weasel-speak is out forth as being preferred over truth, due diligence and full disclosure in the name of integrity?

That place exists only in the feverish minds of those in pursuit of an agenda where the interests of upright people has been subverted in pursuit of a corrosive and corrupt Trotskyite/Alinskite agenda.

Walking everyone BACKWARDS to some bastardized interpretation of "equality."

...Because they hate the notion of every man being free to move forward and prosper and acquire (or not) according to his talent, endurance and willpower while reaping the benefit of the same.

Remember...
The perpetual grievance class is being used as a lever to pry you away from what you worked your ass off to have.

The corrupt corporate sponsored government seeks to remain viable and empowered this way...

Strip corporate/financial influence from governance.

Hang those who seek it's preservation because they are the true enemies of the people and traitors of what this republic means.

The Police, Sheriffs, Constables and Militia are our home guard and protectors from enemies within.

The Military are our protectors from enemies abroad.

All of our protectors are under attack by enemies from within and abroad...

We are too...

This foolishness.
Attacking our protectors because they stand in the way of...

What IS the end-game other than trying to provoke a collapse or a re-boot?

Who will benefit when the collapse/re-boot occurs?

We know a lot of good (and bad) people will be hurt...

Anti-Gun PSA: Kids Should Steal Parents' Guns and Bring Them to School

"A new public service announcement is drawing harsh criticism for encouraging children to steal their parents' guns and turn them in at school.

"Critics point out that the message, which claims to be aimed at reducing gun violence, invites children to break gun laws and puts students in danger.

"According the Daily Caller, the video was released by a San Francisco-based production company.

"In the anti-gun ad, published Dec. 13 by Sleeper 13 Productions, a boy who appears to be in his early teens is shown walking up the stairs of his home and wandering into his mother’s bedroom.

"The boy is shown opening the drawer to his mother’s dresser, where a handgun is hidden.

"The boy takes the gun from the dresser and leaves the room. The ad then flashes to his school. Sitting in a classroom, the boy ventures up to his teacher’s desk after the rest of his classmates have left.

"The tension building in the scene breaks, and the boy produces the gun from his backpack, slamming it on his startled teacher’s desk.

"The director of the video took to Twitter in recent days, urging people to share the video and calling those who don't agree "cowards."

Lot of people are afraid to share my PSA! If you are not a coward please share https://t.co/q2sisRKCN1 … … #gunviolence

Homicides in NYC went from 2,245 in 1990 to 328 last year and still the savages are "protesting" two miserable criminal scum dying while resisting arrest.

Let the homicide rate get back up over 2,000 and let them kill each other. At least they won't be able to say the police are killing "unarmed" individuals.

Don't grossly exaggerate. It diminishes any point you're trying to make. According to the 2010 U.S. decennial census, New York City has just over three times the population of Chicago. (Not TEN).

Chicago............2,695,598
_________________________
*Brooklyn.........2,504,700
Queens............2,230,722
Manhattan.......1,585,873
Bronx...............1,385,108
Staten Island.......468,730
_______________________
New York City..8,175,133

The NYPD is divided into 77 precincts (districts).
*Brooklyn alone would qualify as the fourth largest city in the nation.

In 1970 you might have been transported to the hospital by paddy wagon. Few trauma centers back then. Oh, and the city had 1 million more people that it does now.

Sometimes the wagon would stop for lunch on the way, depending. Doing a community service.

(OT) just watched Fox world news, looks like the democrats are salivating they want more fuel tax money to the tune of 100 billion more to fix our roads because fuel is so cheap they say! Asked by Neil cavuto fox news reporter the democratic strategist said we have 100 billion already is fuel taxes when asked by Cavuto "where is that money going any accounting for where it went?" the democratic idiot said " we need to look into that as we are going to take another 100 billion in additional taxes from the consumer who buys fuel!"

So I guess none of that will go into underfunded pension funds but will be used for democrats personal piggy banks for their "family and friends" bilking of the taxpayers, more freebies for the illegals and link card holders "change we can believe in" right obama?

Hey SCC,

Happy New Year!

We count homicides, G-Math counts murders. You're correct in stating that we do count police-involved shootings but we also count self-defense (G-Math doesn't) and we've also included a few "death investigations" but not all. By our count there are nearly a dozen of those outstanding.

We expect 2014's count to climb throughout 2015 as those DIs become homicides and more than few will succumb to their injuries (count applied towards day of incident, not day of death).

In short, all murders are homicides, but not all homicides are murder.

"However, it paid for my new car and roof. Thanks you."

Don't thank me, I don't live in Illinois so I was not able to contribute to your roof or car. However, even though you have your sweet ride now and leaky roof plugged, you still lose because you have to live in Chicago. Enjoy that car and roof, my friend!

Concealed Carry saved many lives in Chiraq in 2014, along with dedicated trauma Doctors, Nurses, and Paramedics, NOT CPD. shootings are up and they are just Murders that did not go to full fruition, CPD failed at slowing them down. Quit trying to take credit for something you failed to do.

O.T. HIP Mall Turning Ghetto?

Has anyone noticed that the HIP Mall and Irving Park and Harlem is slowly turning ghetto as well? I noticed it three years ago. Each year it is turning for the worse. God I hope the trend doesn't continue and to think they have off duty officers working there. But I guess the criminal class doesn't care.

1/02/2015 01:38:00 PM

Been like that a few years, at least. Won't go there anymore. Too much running and screaming and cheap, junky stores. Much of that Carson's looks like a Kmart now. No thanks.

OT: Sneed drools all over Garry in her article about his wedding. It's clear she adores him.

1/02/2015 01:01:00 AM

Who the fuck cares! Maybe you should go work for TMZ.

Back in those days is was common practice for a wagon crew to deliver a deceased from the residence or hospital directly to a funeral home for a discrete and modest gratuity. But like all good things a few greedy coppers ruined it for everyone.

And for the most part, they didn't matter to other blacks.

HIP Mall has been ghetto for at least 3 ;years, as you say. The shops at the HIP cater to the ghetto style. The holidays this year were the worst - ask the off-duty guys that work there.

No reason for me to go there and deal with that crap when for a couple minutes more I'll have a nice day at Old Orchard or Oakbrook.

"To you younger guys who don't have as much invested in the Chicago Police Department. We need good cops out here in Montana. For sure, I know the Montana Highway Patrol is always hiring at various times throughout the year. You may not make as much as you do in Chicago, but you'll get paid decently and things are MUCH cheaper here than in the people's republic of Illinois.

Whether you like it or not, 109 homicides in Fillmore with loads of manpower. Afternoons- 4 beats with 4 2 person cars per beat- on a good day - maybe 6 strat- some one man. Plus 5 tac teams and another 4 gang teams. I am not including SOS which was housed in building and more less hit 011 on their back from their assigned area. Almost forgot about the wagons-3. And the park car- naturally 2 man.

1995-

Nobody ever wants to acknowledge the 800lb elephant in the room. There are certain parts of this city where you could put a cop on every damn corner and you still would have carnage and mayhem in those neighborhoods. There's lots of fundamental things lacking in those neighborhoods: family structure, morals, respect for others property and human lives etc. A lot of those problems are of their own making and until they're addressed the carnage and mayhem will always follow.
There's a saying " it takes a village to raise a child"..... well if the majority of the "village" is all fucked up what are you going to get?
