Wow, Snow is Slippery
- Lake-effect snow caused slippery conditions on some area roadways close to Lake Michigan, leading to multiple accidents like the 40-vehicle chain reaction crash that that fouled up traffic on the Kennedy Expressway Sunday.
The chain-reaction crash happened at 10:15 a.m. on the inbound express lanes on the Kennedy Expressway, which involved 40 vehicles that closed the express lanes for most of the day and temporarily closed the local lanes of the expressway, according to the Illinois State Police officials. The express lanes were reopened by 5:45 p.m., according to state police.
But was it really all the snow's fault?
- Police said the snow conditions were responsible for the chain-reaction crash as there are no shoulders on the express lanes.
Um, no. Driving to fast for conditions was the primary cause. Snow = slippery = reduce your damn speed and increase the distance between vehicles, leaving plenty of room to stop. After that, it's all physics.

The snow was white so obviously racism is to blame for the accidents.
What I hear from friends in the southland, who admit they don't know how to drive on snow: "but you guys up north who are used to snow and ice all know how to drive on it".
"After that, it's all physics."
So before that, where was the f__ing salt?

One of the participants stated someone lost control and visibility was so bad, due to blowing snow, no one saw the spinout until it was too late.
People, just because they're called 'express' lanes, doesn't meant you're REQUIRED to drive fast. Especially in a whiteout.

The Kennedy is one crazy expressway.
I went thru there 5 minutes before that happened...near whiteout condition. was amazed how many people didn't even have their lights on! Assholes wait till the last moment to get into the local exit. North shore douche bags.
I live down state. I took the Metra electric up. No reason fighting the idiots who cannot drive on the interstste. Smooth ride the whole way up and back. Just had to time our visit to make sure we did not have two hours to kill. No big deal.
That's it..................the city needs to ban snow!!!!!!
Correct, it is never the person's fault.
It is a lovely age we live in when a person never has to be responsible. Otherwise, thoughtless assholes may actually be labeled as thoughtless assholes, and nobody wants that.
We all know working in this job how people are dumb asses and dont understand to slow down in the weather. My new motto is "my time is now your time" just like in the movie Fast Times at Ridgement High with Mr Hand.
Sorry also, you cannot sit in my warm car because it I get rear-ended. Obviously some exceptions do apply to this rule.
