Evans Acquitted

  • A Cook County judge on Monday acquitted Chicago police Cmdr. Glenn Evans on charges he shoved his gun down a man’s throat in spite of evidence showing the alleged victim’s DNA on Evans’ gun.
Of course, there was no way to prove this as the lab never even tested the DNA to see if it was tissue, blood or saliva DNA, all of which have distinct profiles.
scan
IPRA takes a beating, too:
  • His lawyers made an important part of their defense an attack on the integrity of the much-maligned Independent Police Review Authority, which investigated the allegation of excessive force.

In her closing argument Thursday, Evans' attorney, Laura Morask, called IPRA a "band of inept, corrupt, comically laughable" investigators whose efforts to "bag a commander" were "nothing short of disgusting."
Well put.

Glad he won his case, but a lesson to be learned by all, if they will come after a commander taking the word of some SHITBIRD then they will surely come after lowly PO's. Stop taking Risks for the sake of bagging an arrest for this screwed up department, you have no backing, just look at the command Changes that occurred last night. They won't help you out period. If you have some occasion in which somebody grabs your gun, DOCUMENT THE INCIDENT, if you have a pimpy ass Sergeant that doesn't want to do the paperwork, go around him, see the DSS or XO. don't stop there, if they won't do it, contact FOP. I'm not a trouble maker or letter writer but a retired Sergeant who always took care of the troops. Protect yourselves especially in todays climate. do the minimum and no more, .

Glenn Evans was one of the best commanders I have ever worked with. You rarely see them leaving the district anymore (other than political gain and aside from the occasional protest) but Evans was out there and in the shit with us. I'll never forget clearing parks with him as he lead from the front, hearing him yell in roll call or the hallways about these fucking savages; or backing him up while he had five, six, plus against the wall by himself.

Sad to say that this shit is over. He understood that there is no such thing as reeducation/free training, rehabilitation/therapy, fucking holding hands or whatever this "cease fire" shit is about (money laundering.) The only thing these animals will and ever respond to is absolute fear and violence (how they control their own.)

The leftist extremists have taken hold and their indoctrinated children are now, what, lying on the sidewalk in an attempt to highlight straight up criminals being put down by the police or whatever it is? Good lord, god help us.

It seems society needs to be reminded just how much they need us. YOU, the patrol officer holds WAY more power then you think.

The case the states attorneys office presented was pitiful. No "offender" identification, "victim" changed his story multiple times and the state failed to test for the presence of saliva when the allegation was that an object was forced into the "victims" mouth. When have any of you working coppers had felony review approve charges without a positive id or a victim change their story mid stream? If you say you have you are a fucking liar!

The only thing this trial did was rob us of one of the only bosses in the department that inspired others to proactively police the troubled neighborhoods of the city of Chicago. My guess is that he will be reinstated and demoted to his highest civil service rank, a gross error in judgement fueled by the swirling political climate in Chicago currently.

Off Topic SCC please forgive us but very very important info concerning allegations of misconduct:
The have been several complaints of documented cheating and compromising of classified information regarding the recent Lt’s Examination. The Department of Justice has been informed and an investigation will search for patterns of unconstitutional policing practices throughout the police force. If the department tries to rush a promotion of these suspects from the new list, all participants from the old list will be part of the upcoming lawsuit. If, a class of 30 are promoted from the new list, the 30 from the old list will be the main complainants as they were cheated out of their rightful promotion. They will be contacted.

Hopefully the CPD will be proactive and avoid another negative media press release by holding off promotions from the new list until the investigation is completed.

If anyone thinks the States Attorney's Office are friends to the police read the comment by Anita.

Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez said: "This case underscores the reality that it is extremely difficult to convince judges or juries in Cook County and around the country to convict police officers of misconduct in the line of duty, despite the fact that this victim made an immediate outcry and we had DNA evidence to support our case.

"Regardless of today’s ruling, I stand strongly behind the decision to charge Commander Evans with these crimes. And as I have proven by my actions throughout the course of my administration, the State’s Attorney’s Office will never hesitate to bring criminal charges against police officers when they are supported by the facts, the evidence and the law."

The 009 District rally in support of police that was supposed to happen on Saturday was cancelled because of a plea by 11th Ward Alderman concerned that we might clash with anti-police protesters causing an incident which would tarnish Bridgeport's good name (ha,ha). One would expect a politician to thwart these efforts, but I was more that a little disappointed in Fr. Brandt for urging members and their families NOT to show up or participate. I know Fr. Brandt is a stand up guy and goes out of his way for the membership. That being said, I can't help feeling a bit let down since Fr. Faker is always so vocal and quick to defend his parishioners and members of the African American community at large. Why is Fr. Brandt so silent in these troubling times? A televised spot by Fr. Brandt saying a few kind words on behalf of the membership might go a long way. I guess Bishop Cupich has him on a shorter leash than Fr. Faker.

I don't think so. Read Fr. Dan's article in tribune. He called Van Dyke a hero and says all the protestors non Christian in their ways. Also how police are trained to shoot until threat gone. Not to mention he refused to go to these rally's because he didn't want to betray the flock (CPD) that he took vow to serve in his current duties. Interesting article that took big balls to say. If SCC can find it. Post it.

Who has the clout? THAT's who gets picked. What are you from Kansas or something?

This should be an awaking for every officer out there. The PD does not care about you. We have been thrown under the bus numerous times and its time to really wake up. And as for Glenn,in the words of Mr. Wolf in Pulp Fiction, lets not start sucking off each other just yet. Glenn has a long way to go yet trying to get back on.He's going to have to fight hard again to get reinstated. Good luck and God Bless. STAY FETAL MY FRIENDS.

12/15/201 @ 2:02 There is not 2 sets of rules in this case, Cmdr. Evans was charged criminally. The Judge found him NOT GUILTY of all charges. Evans is one of the last of a dying breed, WORKING COMMANDERS. Evans stands up for working coppers, even if standing up will mean pissing off a bunch of do nothing exempts, Lts, and Sgts. Cmdr. Evans stood shoulder to shoulder with his blue shirts. All of us on the job need to embrace this not guilty verdict and hope one day this department promotes more Glenn Evans to LEAD (not boss) the men and women of this dept. There could be some dark days ahead for LE everywhere, especially in Chicago.

Not LEO here, hooray an ass kicking cop got let off. Avid supporter of LEO's and especially CPD. However, off topic post. Our fantastic shit for brains prez is up to no good. I'm in the search for an AR. I found one I like. I call the big box company to make sure they have it, so I can cross the border to purchase tomorrow. I'm told "we did have it, but not anymore" i ask if they sold out. "No, we just don't have it for purchase" I inquire why not. "Due to recent events we can't sell them or take orders for them" I say, " it's a legal right that you can sell them if you have them" she says "not anymore" As you can see, we are fucked as a country, constitutional rights being violated, loud and clear. Because terrorists hit in CA, liberals push their agenda and now forbid legal citizens from using their 2nd amendment rights. Sounds like a great time to be an American citizen. God bless you guys, and be safe out there.

I heard on a Fox News show that the potus was preparing another "executive order". He wants to ban the sale of AR type weapons to the public? Maybe the military too when he gets done!

The IPRA investigators asking why the VRI guys didn't get a positive interaction number. If they could have thought a little more quickly they should have asked for a negative community interaction number while talking to them and then reminded them that their questions were feeling like an interview without a sworn affadavit or the required time to get counsel. I bet they would have walked away quickly.

Post it.

12/14/2015 06:28:00 PM

It wasn't canceled. It was postponed because the City panicked at the overwhelming numbers of supporters who wanted to participate. Fr Brandt wasn't in charge of it; he was just passing the message along.

OT kind of: ANOTHER OFFICER CHARGED IN SHOOTING

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - A Broward Sheriff's Office deputy has been charged with manslaughter in the 2013 fatal shooting of a man who was carrying an air rifle.

Broward County state attorney's office spokesman Ron Ishoy said Friday that a grand jury has indicted Deputy Peter Peraza in the shooting of Jermaine McBean.

McBean was shot July 31, 2013, by Peraza outside his apartment complex while carrying the unloaded Winchester air rifle.

A federal lawsuit filed against Broward County, Sheriff Scott Israel and Peraza claims McBean could not hear deputies' commands to drop the gun because he was listening to music with earbuds.

McBean's family's attorney David Schoen claims the BSO told the family that they found the earbuds in McBean's pocket.

"The story that the BSO is telling that he refused their orders and continued walking and then pointed a gun at them after hearing orders to drop his air gun simply could not ring true," Schoen said.

Peraza was a 12-year veteran at the time of the shooting.

Israel said he has suspended Peraza without pay pending the outcome of the criminal investigation.

"Now, the case will go forward in the courts, and a jury will weigh all the evidence and render a verdict," Israel said in a statement. "For everyone in this case -- the McBean family, the Peraza family, the BSO family, everyone in our community -- we want truth and justice to prevail."

Peraza's attorney spoke to Local 10 News about the arrest, calling his client's arrest an "abomination."

Deputy Peter Peraza
"We cannot Monday morning quarterback our officers (and) our deputies," attorney Eric Schwartzreich said. "They need to be able to do their job."

In an internal affairs report obtained by Local 10 News, it was discovered that Peraza received a Gold Cross award after the shooting. Peraza was nominated for the award by Lt. Brad Ostroff and the paperwork was supposed to be signed off by several others, including the sheriff.

The BSO opened an internal affairs investigation to find out whether proper procedures were followed. It was later determined that Deputy Kelly Loor, who was in charge of awards at the time, had shredded the paperwork.

BSO policy states documents should be kept for five years, which they were not.

Peraza testified that he never saw anything in McBean's ears, but a photograph of the body that later surfaced clearly showed McBean wearing earbuds.

Ishoy said the grand jury heard testimony over the course of three days.

Peraza appeared in court Friday afternoon as a judge set his bond at $25,000. Peraza was released later that night. Schwartzreich told reporters that he advised Peraza not to speak about the arrest at this time.

"The tragedy is that law enforcement officers everywhere can be concerned and scared and not have the chilling effect they're going to be second-guessing themselves," Schwartzreich said.

Jeff Marano, president of the Broward County Police Benevolent Association, questioned the decision to charge Peraza.

"They cleared him," Marano said. "He was working. They investigated it. How do you send the guy home without pay? It's ridiculous."

The manslaughter charge is a first-degree felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison.

How did the media get hold of that?

I remember all the tact and gang teams in 011 bitching about Evans when he started stirring the pot. So is he a good boss or not. Seems to me he was taken care in the end. And I guess that's ok. But a blue shirt would be hung, I mean out to dry, fired to daloo motherfucka sayanora. But when and if he gets back, he'll still be a white shirt and taken care of.

If you went to the trial you would have known that Evans told some troops the media needs to stop treating all cops like they were corrupt and all blacks like they were criminals . He also had some choice words about how the media acted and how they treat gangbusters like victims .

He treaters all workers decently . Didn't care about color.

Evans won't be going to the police board or getting fired over this. Read the court transcripts. If I was the states attorneys or ipra guys I would be worried about my job and freedom right now.
