FTO's
The Department is making 50 or 55 FTO's shortly. That would seem to hint that there might be a largish amount of PPO's about to be hired and sent through the Academy.
That ties in to our recent rumor of 1,000 hires and Rahm's noise this week about doing something about the homicide totals.
Anyone know if the Department has started the usual plethora of lies to the FTO's about shifts, districts and bidding? Or is it going to be "different" this time?

OT-- Did you see the little 14-year old black kid who won't stand up and say the Pledge? His mother and him were on WGN TV News being interviewed.
He won't say the Pledge because he doesn't think blacks have been treated right.
Hey, what if I start saying - I don't feel like I'm treated right and until then, I am not paying my taxes anymore?
You can't do anything about it because, I just don't feel like I am being treated fairly and until then, I refuse to pay my taxes.

FTO as a track toward Sergeant stripes?
The better FTOs would be circulated through
the academy as training instructors to bring
their up-to-the-moment patrol and survival
tactics to the recruits.
FTOs being able to access more specialized training.
FTOs sitting at the top of a revamped Patrol Officer
grading system ala' LAPD... Based on seniority, education and training.
P.O.1, P.O.2, P.O.3 and so on.
It went NOWHERE because too many clouted, uneducated dunces
faced the possibility of losing out on "free money?"
Plus it would have crowded out the taint of
politics and fuckery.
There will NEVER be a push to take recruit (and ongoing)
training seriously on this job.
Have you seen the FTO list and ran some of the hire dates. Over 40 percent of that class has less than 5 on the street. WTF OVER!

That guy should've never made it past FTO phase himself. He failed two of his cycles and hasn't made an I view part 1 arrest his entire career in 007. WOW. !
Sure is going to be different. Many of the FTO's were PPO's just a year or 2 ago. What a clusterfuck this department will be in a few years....I mean more so than now.

93 retiring in October.... This current class graduating won't even cover that... They aren't hiring new bodies, they are only replacing bodies. Rahm may hire hundreds but that will be wiped out with the mass retirements in the next 4 months to a year. Add the bodies to the manpower budget then fill those vacancies.. Then you will actually have "more" officers on the street. All we are doing is keeping up with retirements and replacing those retired officers.
I know of an FTO who is giving it up. I'll ask him if he wants to give his stripes to the new FTOs.
Why anyone would want to be an FTO today boggles my mind.
Rahm is hiring more police to stop the violence. Guess what, this sounds really good for the democrats just prior to the election. What about all the people that have been killed or shot since the last election. What did the democrats do to stop the violence especially the black caucuses in the council and the legislature? ???????????????????????????????

About 80% of the FTO's I've encountered on this job are a joke. Not even just a joke of a copper but a joke of a human being. The good ones stand out but are a rare breed.

As I have been saying for some time: The Uniform Store on the Northwest Side took delivery of large amounts of new recruit uniform stuff. They were told to expect substantial numbers of new recruits, but also remember, the number of people leaving is far more than expected. On the other end someone was at 35th St. on a Tuesday, and he saw 5 people retiring, and only one was a mandatory. The number of people leaving at 50, or in many cases below, at their 20 year point is significant. A lot of these people leaving under age 50 have kids reaching high school age, and they want out of the City for their kids' high school. The Residency Requirement, and Working Conditions make staying less desirable.The situation is changing faster than anyone could have imagined. Baby"G"

FTO job puts the high-power cross hairs right on your back. If you want to be a teacher you would be much better off getting a teachers certificate and do real teaching in a school without the risks of going to jail.

I trained maybe ten recruits as an out-of-grade FTO before I actually made FTO back in the 90's. At least half of those in my FTO class would not have been hired as POs by a legitimate police department in the first place. The CPD has too many problems, caused by nepotism, political and religious corruption, to ever have legit hiring and training. Add to that the war on police declared by the POTUS, MSM and the Democratic Party, honest coppers and the few right thinking citizens of our Republic are fucked.
They are making FTO's because they are dropping like flies. No incentive to stay/become an FTO and have to deal with 3-5 PPO's and get paid 1/2 for all 5. The FTO program is a joke..
When he says, I hired 500 Police Officers,The media should ask how many retired.

Answer: The past 8 years.
The FTO program is arguably the most important program in the Department. It has been left to wither and die because they cost a little more to employ. Penny wise and pound foolish comes to mind.
These are the men and women that give officers the hands on training that will shape their future careers. I would bet my pension the officers involved in every major lawsuit in the last 25 years had a piss poor FTO experience. As a taxpayer, I am furious.
If I were their defense lawyer, I'd start their defense there.
How about bringing back the ET's that were already trained?
The standards are very low, the training is poor & common sense is absent.
Seems to me that there is more dysfunction lately than ever before.
Is Special Ed's FTO still active?
Maybe he can run the New Improved FTO-COPA Program and get a Gold Star too.

Then it turned into "1,000 more Police Officers ON THE STREET",
35th St got purged, House Mice hit the street for a grand total of 3 months for the unlucky who's phone call couldn't get them back sooner. Then things went back to normal.
35th got purged again about 2 years later, and the same thing happened.

That's my plan too. A little over half way there. When I took the job o was planning on making a career out of it. I'll be more than happy with 20 years and 50% pension. I'll still be under 50, so I'm planning post CPD now.

Please know that this entire organization is a fraud. The exempt members are in pace because they cheated on tests to get there or were placed there by people who cheated. We are held to a higher standard by virtue of our station as PO'S yet these cheating scum are not. The mayor, IG, and city council are all complacent in the fraud. Never trust a single person above the rank of Sgt. and maybe not even them. 1st and 16th and fuck everything else. Its not legitimate people, its an organized criminal enterprise.
Had a great FTO. Taught me very well in 002. Thx Marilyn C. Hope you're loving retirement in Arizona. Good FTO is the key to a good career.

I was there when Jody Weiss made that point after exempts from LAPD and San Diego where here for a leadership program.
The dicks and FOP fought it figuring that one day dick would be the only path toward Sgt and up. But the fools screwed everyone and when Jody got dumped so did a real promotion path which would have cut out the political hack and idiot son/ daughter of bosses!
And good luck to the new FTO's that dollar extra a hour is a joke do it for the recruit who will rat you out !

The communication between an FTP and a PPO needs to be completely honest and open. So long as there is more than one PPO in the car with an FTP, that simply can't happen.

You my friend have summed up my feelings exactly!! The CPD is a big joke. All the cheating that took place on that last LT Test was the breaking point for me too. Just look at the joke DC of 006. That guy was a secretary in 002 just 3 years ago! Waller must owed a BIG favor to Un-NOBLE.

Good idea but the city will never give up more then a few token spots for the non-clouted in the patrol division. I am sure there will be merit exceptions of course.
This Labor Day weekend the police department is asking for officers to work their days off, the union tells officers to spend time with their families. So what does the person in charge do, ? Let's make a class of FTOs and they will start next week and be off Sunday and Monday?

20 years ago I was a FTO. And every chance the Department tried to take D2 pay away or transfer you to another
watch to add manpower. Bouncing recruits around with different FTOs The best was when no recruit was working the FTO revert to D1 pay.........
If you young chargers are smart, stay away from this scam.
Just ask around and see why the FOP program was a total joke?
I worked with 7 recruits all are Detectives, Sgts and Lts..........
But the position of FTO does not call for any respect.
Now ask why are so many young officers being stripped for improper actions?
No proper field training.
Rahm wants to hire1000 more officers? Nowhere near enough...I'm not a math guy, but:
Estimated 300 officers under budget now
Estimated 100-500 retirees (conservatively)
Detective scores will be out soon - a couple hundred more dicks soon I would assume
DOJ is gonna demand 200-250 more sergeants in the budget, along with 40-70 more Lts
Sounds like a wash to me. Maybe.

No, its not a good idea with the current program. Anyone who paases the FTO test(not hard) becomes a FTO. Most FTO's suck. That's fine if you want to do something like that but there is no fucking way most FTOs deserve any leg up in a Sergeants exam. The entire FTO program would probably have to be shit canned and they can reapply to be corporals or something like that.
Several on the list are going to go through the training and if they do not get assigned to a better district or watch they will decline the position. Why are there so many asshats like this screwing others over? Yes I have heard their intentions from their own mouths
