Just when you think Chicago reached last year's homicide totals, the Department comes up with eight more killings from last year:
- When Chicago reached 474 homicides for the year on Friday, it appeared the city had surpassed the toll for all of 2015.
But Police Department officials suddenly announced Friday that their homicide count for the past year was wrong. Eight more homicides actually took place, bringing the total to 481 for 2015, they said.
That meant the grim milestone had not been passed on Friday after all.
That's rich.
We've been posting for years that the Department was hiding homicides under McCompStat (and before that even), stretching the definition of "death investigation" so badly it was essentially a meaningless term.
Chicago Magazine did a three-part series telling everyone exactly how the Department was fudging crime stats and downgrading both property and violent crime.
It's been widely known for years that the FBI won't accept Chicago statistics when compiling their annual report because the Department lies so badly.

This is genius. Every time we come close to last year's murder number they can just increase it.so that way we are never higher than last year.
Don't mind the other 50 homicides that were classified as accidental deaths or suicides.

This also reminded me when watching the movie BLINK on TV with a friend recently. In one scene a pair of Chicago cops unroll a body bag to remove a murder victim. My friend asked about that and I said that at the time this movie was made this was accurate. Cops did move bodies to the Cook county Morgue in squadrols. Then they started getting the upgrade to Sergeant's pay if they transported a body. That was about $25-30 apiece. Richie Daley couldn't stand the idea that coppers got a little extra for what was at times a simple delivery or a very unpleasant task.
So what does Daley and the Democommunists do. They get a outside civilian contractor to do the same job for about $900 a body. That's the we're broke City of Chicago for you.
Numbers and figures don't lie; however, the true number of Chicago Dead is known only unto the highest official in the land.
Community should be outraged! Especially the family members of the additional "victims" they seemed to have misplaced!
These people are only important now because they need thoes additional numbers to benefit the bottom line!

More like the Feds won't take CPD numbers because crime has always been out of control in Chicago. Chicago crime would skew the feds numbers too much.

Looks like Henny Penney screwed up the order by not having it out before the end of tour on Friday.
So on Saturday they started calling officers to remind them to be in uniform on Tuesday and report
to different locations.
Guess with all attention toward Overtime for VRI. Penny forgot all about school on Tuesday.
I know a few Bosses read the blog so why not ask yourself why did Penny resign or get stripped

Never got a dime for going to the M.E.'s office, but bringing the body to the funeral home chosen by the family after stopping at a hospital to get the body pronounced?
There may have been a little gratuity.....
They can find 100 more homicides and we'll still surpass that number next month. Quit playing games already.

Same here. I have to read the blog daily. I'd have withdrawals if I miss it. Not CPD, recently retired from a large West Coast department, but grew up in small town Illinois. It's always entertaining to see how the Democrats have screwed up Chicago, just as they have the entire left coast. I am so friggin' happy I'm retired.....our once great department is only a dried husk of what it used to be. Stay safe and may God and St Michael watch over you CPD and ISP!

Like everything else in the legal system (got to look at it a huge bureauracracy), the numbers are fluid and subject to interpretation. For instance, the Medical Examiner or coroner in smaller Counties, may changer her determination on manner and cause of death....

Back in the 90s in 016 we had a Sgt. who worked straight days in the office whose primary job was to kill crime by rewriting case reports and signing the reporting officers name to the newly (falsified )report. Burglaries became CDTP etc. You get the picture.

One too many chimichangas can do that to you, a little Pepto could have prevented this tragedy.
Here is another thought or reason not to get your undies in a bunch over this. This scenario is not an uncommon experience. Suppose X is shot in year 1 and survives but is paralyzed. In year 1, it is not counted as a Homicide. In year 6, X dies from an infection related to a surgery to correct a condition linked to the shooting in year 1. The stats are now changed to reflect the Homicide because the State's Attorney decided to bring murder charges against the original shooter. Or this scenario: A baby dies and a parent is charged with SBS. Clearly a homicide. However, what if medical testing and scientific evidence shows something else? A stroke? The numbers change.
