Without a civilian panel charged with choosing a permanent chief for the Civilian Office of Police Accountability, the agency that will replace the discredited and soon-to-be-abolished Independent Police Review Authority, aldermen warned that public trust shattered by the mayor’s handling of the Laquan McDonald shooting video will never be restored.
To reassure them, the mayor plans to introduce a resolution Wednesday reaffirming his commitment to put that final piece of the puzzle in place during the first quarter of 2017.

You are absolutely correct. Our contracts are opposite of this. However, a court of HIGHER jurisdiction has ruled that these records are to be kept indefinitely. Federal court trumps collective bargaining agreements. Sorry, but liberal judges keep making these decisions that do nothing for us and the law abiding public. Screwed again. Just remeber, keep electing liberal bastards to positions that can appoint judges.

Even if you have a concealed carry permit it won't do you any good if dude sticks a gun in your face. What? You think this is like one of those western movies where the good guy will quickly draw his gun and shoot the bad guy? That is pure fantasy.
Now do not get me wrong, concealed carry is great if a guy comes with you with a baseball bat or wants to rob you and states he has a gun but does not show it.
BTW, I am a firearms instructor. Guns do indeed save lives but they also give people a false sense of security at times.

I called the 1-800 number listed on my Com Ed bill, to ask a question, and was somehow connected with an uptalking perkygirl with no last name she'd admit to who asked if I was under or over 50 years of age, and then told me that I'd "won a free medical alert device;" you know, those things you wear around your neck. I've seen the guts of these, 29 cents worth of circuit board and probably a $100/month "monitoring fee."
When I asked Perky for a name and phone number, she got all offended -- "We have 150 different phone numbers all over the country, SIR!!!" but would not divulge either a name or number. She then hung up on me.
I called Com Ed back, told them they'd probably been hacked, and asked for an IT person in the security department. I got an extremely unfriendly "supervisor" of some sort.
Finally I called the Citizens' Utility Board and got someone nice who promised to pass this info along.
The next time C.E. goes down with a squirrel fried up in the 5kv 3-phase, they can figure it out for themselves, I think. Let someone else call and field their supervisory nastiness.

I'd never rat on a fellow officer but somehow someway somebody's gotta do something or this whole department is going to implode. I don't believe in civilian review but there definitely has to be accountability established otherwise it will continue turning to shit.

Speaking of lowlifes: I see Walter Burnett has chosen to open his ignorant criminal mouth again. This is the problem with forgiveness. Walter Burnett took a loaded gun and robbed people. He made the conscious decision to put a gun in peoples faces and tell them 'give me your belongings or I will kill you'. Somebody decided to forgive him and guided him into a life in politics. Do you think any of his victims had a say in that?

Along with the other egregious features of this, I find one point that may not pass Constitutional muster: that Police Officers or former Police Officers cannot be employed there for five years.
Isn't that discrimination? Perhaps the ACLU should be called to take up a righteous cause for once. Can we have a few retirees apply for the position, only to be turned down, which will show harm, thereby giving them standing to sue?

Maybe and maybe not! The biggest thing that I saw after a long career on the department and now many years into retirement are just plain rude cops. I think rude behavior pisses people off more then anything. I have seen it and I have had it happen to me both in the city and in the suburbs. You really do not have to talk to people like they are idiots and still accomplish what needs to be done.

You are an idiot and you really should check yourself into good mental health clinic and have your meds adjusted.
The difference between full and fair share is only a few dollars a check. The fair share covers the cost of contract negotiation and administration. The benefit difference is legal defense.
Figuring that a lawyer will probably charge you $250/hr, if not more, even an idiot like you should (repeat:SHOULD) be able to see that it would only take a very short consultation with an attorney to eat up the savings.
A retiree pays $40/year. Gets no contract protection or legal defense. Just 10 meetings a year with pizza and canned beer.
Don't know if you guys no this, the current IPRA staff has to reapply for their positions. Reason being the new ordinance says the director can staff the agency at his/her discretion. First question if Sharon Fairley is only interim wouldn't it be fair for the permanent director to pick her staff. Just like Eddie gets the job when he doesn't apply. Fairley picks the staff as interim because you bet you last dollar she is either going to be permenant director or the new police ig and she will put in one other cronies. Perhaps the deputy chief who was an admission at university of Chicago or may the two deputy chief investigators brought from the ig office ( no law enf exp)and her policy person who looks kike pat from Saturday night live, the adrogenous one.
