Mayor Ricketts

And the circus continues.

The Department and City were all set for a Monday parade. Then the Chairman of the Cubs claimed it conflicted with an owner's meeting, so all the planning was out the window, because you know he's far more popular than Rahm nowadays and if he says, "Friday," well by golly, Rahm says "Friday it is!" Day Off Group 61 gets another cancellation for 11 days in a row.

Guess what's closed Friday? If you said Chicago Public Schools, you get a pat on the back. Are they going to have a "Lost Children" tent?

So everything switches back to 12-hour days, but this time, First Watch gets their RDO's, Second Watch is being bused to the parade route, Third Watch is staying put. Teams are on call.

One would think coordinating with the Cubs organization would be step one though, unless you want to have a parade without them.

After the Cubs euphoria wears off, like next Monday, the media should crawl down the mayor's throat and DEMAND someone be held accountable for the unwarranted overtime and incredibly inept 'management' of this event.

There may be another reason for doing the parade on Friday...

Many of these players don't actually live here and actually want to get the hell out of Chiraq. It's too friggin' dangerous here to live with a young family.

Because of the way Shortshanks and Rahm have run this city into the ground it would make more sense for them to live closer to their spring training site in Arizona.

Even in the most expensive neighborhoods you could walk out your door and run into a gang of thugs, catch a stray bullet or knock a player to the ground and cause a career ending injury.

Stay Safe. There has to be a lucrative buck to be made for ODPOs driving armored SUVs to and from Wrigley Field next season.

It was asinine for the city to plan anything without the Cubs at the table too. Do you plan a surprise party for someone for noon on Thursday if they have a nine to five, Monday to Friday work schedule? It would make more sense to hold the parade on Saturday, so families could attend.

The books made a ton of cash with the Cubs winning and hundreds of millions bet on Cleveland to win when they were one game away from the champs, and now they are focused on the over and under of murders in Chicago.

Just goes to show you that the clouted at 35th & Michigan making these decisions have never worked the streets. Also goes to show that they never had to work midnights in their career or worked a full eight hours on their spots on days. Obviously they never were in box 1 on felony arrests requiring multiple court appearances at 9am. Our bosses are soooo far removed from the streets and real police business it's bizarre. A police department this silly cannot last.

And the fun continues.

Tina Skahill made her triumphant return to the department as assistant general counsel in the office of legal affairs. Her first day of work was Nov 1, Tuesday. She was promptly terminated on Wednesday, Nov 2.

Turns out CPD Human Resources, specifically "The Don", have no idea that we operate under something called a "hiring plan" which is allegedly some type of hiring procedure the city follows to ensure fair and open hiring processes.

There is someone who knows all about the hiring plan though, that is the inspector general, who ordered Tina removed from the payroll. Turns out ole Joe wants to enforce policies that require at least the charade of fair hiring instead of just picking someone based on their flavor or their association with some prestigious or noble organization. Tina will likely be back after the department goes through the song and dance of actually posting the job and "considering" applicants. Anyone who applies other than Tina is a complete fool.

Kudos to whomever blew the whistle on this nonsense, word is it was someone from the inside whose has been on the outs with the new regime for some time (you could FOIA it to find out). Just another example as to what happens when the department is left to its own devices with no oversight. The Don specifically is either complicit in his duties or part of the corruption, either way, not someone who should be running a major department's human resources division.

The best and the brightest indeed!

So we are down here on post at Grant Park since 4am. It is now 9am and the crowds have already knocked down some of the barriers and injured people, taken over Michigan Ave causing massive grid lock and produced so many highly intoxicated passed out idiots that CFD ambulances can't keep up. "Fans" are throwing bottles at the police, Tac teams are running from one emergency to another like headless chickens and the parade isn't even supposed to make it down here for another two hours! Since I don't have the advanced intelligence of the asshats at 35th street I have to ask; why in the fuck would let Rahm make the decision to hold this shitshow on a Friday and not a Sunday when there are not millions of people trying to get to and from their jobs. They may be the 2nd most popular in baseball (next to the Yankees) but they are not the most popular in sports.

HOW UNINFORMED CAN YOU BE...? The dicks always have worked in uniform when these events occur. They are standing by in case mass arrests become necessary and they will be assigned to do all the paperwork, and prisoner processing so the real blue shirts can get back out on the streets. They perform their regular duties in their assigned unit until needed. They are assigned to incident teams, and If so deployed the arresting PO need only fill out a quick mass arrest card, and the Dicks will do all the paperwork.

If you were out on the street, maybe you should ask some question about what the plan is...Maybe read some General orders instead of texting and talking on your cell phone. This knowledge could be useful someday in a promotional exam.

I hate to be a downer after such a large event that went semi successfully, with only small casualties, but you are totally clueless as to what goes into effect in a large crowd control event. Even those "clueless" supervisors" you probably bitch about would know that...

Now get some rest, and take a day off or two...

A white shirt wearing a short sleeve shirt as an outer garment
Numerous officers wearing long sleeve shirts as outer garments
One guy with his shirt sleeves rolled up to his biceps
Princess standing with both hands in her pockets and her pretty pony tail hanging down past the middle of her back.

Surely there was a uniform order for this detail.
Cmon people lets at least look like we're on the same team--you are embarrassing us!

Who knows...

Next year it could be the CUBS versus the WHITE SOX in the WORLD SERIES.

A lot of $$$$ to be made if that happens.

The kids at the academy had to work the shit show until 0400hrs.

THEN.. REPORT to the academy at 0700 for classes on Thursday.

These kids don't even have a star or gun yet and already the city has molded them into more future fetal coppers who say "FUCK THIS CITY".

Oh stop with the KIDS already. We were pulled out of the academy. No star, gun, vest, hell we didn't even have our blues. We were in khakis and that stupid little Boy Scout hat. Stop babying grown adults. That's why this country is a big shit show. Just go out there and do your best and shut up about it.

Glad Cubs won and being down there the whole time I'd say for game 3,4,5 at Wrigley it was pretty much overkill. But I guess you have to be prepared just in case. For the AWAY clincher - very poorly run - and for the parade, total CLUSTER. Irons not in place at key spots (the turn at Randolph & Michigan) and poor or no staging for mobile units to respond to calls for help. Too many bossss giving conflicting orders - car 41 should have his own channel. Certain commanders 002-003) standing around clueless. Have a debriefing and go over the mistakes so we don't get a repeat in the future. And listen to any food suggestions from those that were actually doing the work. By the way. How do I get to be one of the uniformed cops riding on the Cubs busses and trolleys? Saw a lot of females on those busses and trolleys.
Must be nice

And while everyone celebrated the Cub's victory, two NYPD sergeants were gunned down chasing a home invasion offender. One of the sergeant's was killed. Right now I can give a shot about the Cub's and their victory party. My thoughts and prayers are with the NYPD and especially the family of the murdered Sgt. God bless them all.

Aren't you the same guy bitching about the clearance rate from the Detectives? Maybe you're the same guy gripping about why it takes Detectives to show up at "your" crime scene when they are already at another crime scene working that one. Oh, that's right, there are so few shootings in this city right now.

whether you liked McCarthy or not, he was on the road to cleaning things up uniform wise. All that is now reversed with Johnson. Yes, I agree with you, CPD looks sloppy and unprofessional. yes, the world is becoming much more casual in their dress, but a uniformed force, under some circumstances, cannot do that. I saw the amount of beards, pony tails, earrings, women with purses, very long hair on men, dirty uniforms and torn and it seems that no two officers were wearing the same thing. Disgraceful.

Very surprised that Rahm didn't desperately pander to the 'inner city, hard-working citizens' and proclaim at the rally that 'Chicago is a city of winners - our last triumph was the wonderful Jackie Robinson West players who captured our city's hearts.' (Vomit)

The absolute most unorganized event in my short 19 years on the job. If it was run like this for Bulls half the city would still be burning and hundreds of officers would be hurt.

Of course I shouldn't be amazed but once again my mouth drops when it becomes clear that this event was organized for CPD by someone who is clearly mentally challenged.

It seems like not a single barrier that was in place downtown survived, ambulances could not respond to people in need, mopes destroying private property, public transportation was over whelmed and traffic in general was disastrous.

The only thing that was done in unison was the reporting by the media.
- Cubs fans just having a good time
- 5 million people and only 6 arrests
- all barricades up and in place
- people waiting patiently
- all sober Cubs players
- no drug over dosing teens on the sidewalk foaming at the mouth
- no bottles being thrown at the police
- no one climbing on light poles
- less than half of police without radios
- I can keep going

I've seen mental wards with more organization than this CPD had this Friday.

Total disaster

STFU! Ryan was probably the only MFer that knew what he was doing, was the only exempt in the middle of all the shit, was the only one looking out for the po's. I was there you were probably on a corner three miles away from everything beotch.
If your such a tough guy, sign your name. No this is not his driver, cousin or any other relation! just sick of all the bs, tough talk and no facts!

Just an anonymous Cubs fan who would like to thank CPD and all the rest who were involved with the parade activity. You guys/gals showed a ton of restraint and I witnessed great professionalism on many occasions. For what is being reported as the largest gathering of humanity in US history it went far better than anyone could have anticipated.

Personally for your sake Friday was probably the right call. If 5 million made it on Friday...you might have doubled that number on the weekend...and Monday would have been larger too with many more able to make travel plans or get time off work.

I thought it was class that the Cubs organization acknowledged and recognized CPD at the rally.

As for who is paying? Supposedly corporate sponsors are picking up the tab: American Airlines, State Farm, others...

Now retired, for the last years of my career I wore black Velcro shoes because of arthritis in my knees and spine.

I could still kick ass and if I couldn't as John Steinbeck said, "Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you."

I'm a fan of the blog, but not an officer, so pardon the intrusion. I think it's unfair to blame anyone but your Superintendent for this. Theo Epstein has an out of town meeting on Monday. Do you really think the celebration should have been scheduled for Monday without him simply because the powers that be didn't think ahead? They should have been talking to the organization as soon as the series started and they would have known it wasn't going to happen on Monday, and prepared for a Friday celebration. It's not like a parade was a surprise they had no clue was going to happen until the last minute, it was just the timing of it. Blame your boss for not thinking and planning ahead instead of Ricketts and the organization.

??????How long have you been sucking this guy Ryan's dick? He is an incompetent tool with the personality of a rectal wart. all through the playoffs and world series these jag off morons had coppers sitting around for over 6 hours before a fucking game would even start. If you were on tact in 61 dog you sat in a van for that time, these guys didn't even give an assignment out nobody knew shit or what we were doing, pathetic losers this command staff. how the fuck do you have people sitting around for 7 hours before a game seven fucking hours??????? with no post or assignment??? Then when the Cubs won no plans no positions no clue no crowd control nothing just stand and get crushed by a couple hundred thousand people. Only the fact that cub fans were cool saved the shitty! fuck stupid morons gfy! Jesus somebody should have just dusted off the order from nato, or the Blackhawks championships and get a fucking clue.

Well, now that you put it that way...
Maybe Theo Epstein could have rescheduled his 'out of town meeting'.
You seem to think the world revolves around him. And ONLY him.

The meeting was for the MLB GM's, etc. Not something he could reschedule, and he's expected to be there.

The world doesn't revolve around him - but it's not unreasonable to expect the Superintendent of police to plan ahead and let his officers know what the schedule will be if the Cubs win the series. He could have been talking to them 10 days before the parade to find that out. And no, it's not the responsibility for the organization to contact him 10 days ahead of time - they're busy with playoffs and other things. He's in charge of the safety of Chicagoans and for communicating with his officers so they're prepared. He blew it.

And if you're an officer, why would you be against such a thing? Or would you prefer not being informed earlier on so you can whine about it?

It's an MLB GM meeting, so it's out of his hands. The Superintendent should have asked them the week before when they'd be doing the celebration, if they were to win. This way that could have been communicated all the way down ahead of time. It's his job to make sure citizens are safe, but also his job to plan ahead and inform his officers of what to expect with regard to any upcoming event. The job of the organization was to concentrate on playoffs, so the onus is on the guy in charge of policing things. Who can complain about being given information ahead of time so that all officers could be informed?

The fact that some of you lost so much sleep those weeks, and weren't well informed, speaks volumes about Chicago's officers, however, because the three days I was down there, you couldn't have been nicer or friendlier to the throngs of people you had to deal with.

Made me proud to be a Chicagoan, and proud of our officers. Hats off to all who worked there.
