"Where Were You??!!"

We'd like to ask the "community" if they ever heard the expression, "You can't have your cake and eat it (too)?" Of course, they'd say, "No" because most people at homicide scenes haven't taken philosophy:

• The sun was setting Monday night as the crowd gathered around the body of the young man lying on a South Side sidewalk, a blue blanket covering everything but his white sneakers. A white and blue sport motorcycle was at his side. Across the yellow crime tape, a woman in a pink tank top sat on the pavement and yelled out, "I want my baby! Please, God, no!"
  
  Chicago police said the man, identified by family as 23-year-old Devonta Dorsey, was shot in the head by a gunman who approached him around 7:40 p.m. Monday in the 4400 block of South Shields Avenue in Fuller Park.
  
  The attacker fled in a car, and Dorsey was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. He was among six people shot in Chicago over an eight-hour period Monday. As the woman cried, some of the men in the crowd shouted at police about the city's persistent violence. "Where were you all when this happened?" one man asked.

Because it's the police killing almost 800 people a year. And we were right where you told us to be - in our car, not hassling drinkers, traffic violators, people acting the fool, to the tune of three dead per day.

We'd say, "They'll get it eventually," but we don't really think so.
