- A white Chicago police officer was reprimanded by the department Wednesday for posting a photo on social media of himself in apparent protest of the NFL players who knelt during the national anthem during Sunday games.
The photo on the officer’s Facebook page shows him in uniform holding an American flag as he stands in front of a marked Chicago police SUV. A poster on display carries several messages: “I stand for the anthem,” “I love the American flag” and “I support my president and the 2nd Amendment.”
The discipline comes days after two uniformed black officers were reprimanded for posing in a photo shared on social media of them kneeling and raising their fists in a police station with an activist in support of former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who refused to stand during the anthem last season as a protest of police treatment of minorities.
On the surface, similar incidents - political statements in uniform. Shame shame, here's your wrist slap.
Underneath though - one incident expresses love of country, one espouses racial superiority (white or black), socialism, resistance - revolutionary concepts at odds with what police work in a democratic republic is supposed to be about.
So what next, seeing as how this is going to be the new normal. If it's only a reprimand, we can think of all sorts of political gestures that need to be expressed:

I support the president and the 2nd amendment too, but why open yourself up to a potential beef? This obviously comes at the heels of the kneeling/fist holding photo, and not the other way around. A week ago this photo would’ve been a non issue, but given the context of the last kneeling photo it potentially *looks* inflammatory and confrontational. The whole NFL Kneeling BS started because Gutless Roger Goodell did not enforce the NFL Operation Manual Policies the first time Colin Kaepernick sat on his ass during the National Anthem. In August 2016, over a year ago. His mistake will cost the NFL Billions this year. It may cost them everything in the next few years. Do not make the same mistake in the CPD.

The hilarious part is these investigative reporters looked into the officer’s disciplinary history. However they can’t identify the other officers. Could you only imagine if those others officers history reflected the same type as this officer. Worse yet what if it revealed police brutality complaints or lawsuits that would completely negate them taking the knee, seeing as how they would be the problem.

The Order expressly prohibits PARTISAN political speech. None of what that sign reads is partisan (the President is our president and not currently engaged in a campaign for office. The Officer is supporting the office of the presidency and its current occupant).
Where the Officer (who is a jackass) screwed up is that he violated the Social Media Order prohibiting the intellectual property of the Department (uniform and vehicle) from being used in social media posts.
He could have won a grievance if he had just not posted the picture himself. He could not have been blamed if someone else had posted the picture.
For those of you who are celebrating this guy's actions, you apparently don't know him. He's the kind of guy who gets CR numbers on coworkers which results in significant suspension time. He's also the kind of guy who grieves everything under the sun not because he was wronged but because he sees an angle that he can exploit to get something out of it. This guy is all about himself all the time. I guarantee this was a stunt that he was hoping to take a suspension over so he could hire an attorney and sue for unfair labor practice and discrimination since the other offericers only received a reprimand. He's a real POS who's never done a selfless act in his life. So although I may agree with the message his motivation was less than honorable.

Well in 025 the district commander decided that on Friday's, Saturday and Sunday, only 10% of the watch can take time off. All the other days it is 15%. 025 used to be a good place to work. The prior administration of Maria Pena fucked with us and now this. In the end, we blue shirts do not stand united andbthus we deserve it.

There is a huge difference between a picture of this officer holding the American flag and sign stating he supports his country, elected president, and constitutional rights and the picture of the two officers kneeling supporting BLM with the black power fist raised. Our very oath as sworn peace officers binds us to protect our constitution, so affirming that oath is not political- it is our duty. Displaying the American flag is not political, it is our national flag and has the right to be displayed anywhere in USA. The national anthem is our country's song, again, not political when it is sung and heard in the USA. Supporting one's elected president is also not political. However, aligning yourself with a group of domestic terrorists who believe in racial superiority and privilege for one specific group and support killing police officers, that is political.
No punishment for this how is it political he supports the government and the constitution seem like the right thing to do.

I support the president and the 2nd amendment too, but why open yourself up to a potential beef? This obviously comes at the heels of the kneeling/fist holding photo, and not the other way around. A week ago this photo would’ve been a non issue, but given the context of the last kneeling photo it potentially *looks* inflammatory and confrontational. Not trolling here, but this officer is looking to stir up something while in the grey area. Where does this end?

Who can say which photo was first taken? You are assuming the officer with the stars and stripes took a photo in response to the two goofs in 006 showing their racist tendencies, when it could have been the other way around.
You then leap to the officer with the stars and stripes is looking to stir something up. Quite shallow of you to think a photo of the officer with the stars and stripes, regardless of when it was taken, is showing a desire to be confrontational. Nothing in his photo shows anything other than love of country, love of the flag, love of the anthem and a commitment to our President and the 2nd Amendment. If you believe he was being confrontational, you should consider relocating to a place where being a milk-toast is honored, say like somewhere in Europe, or Canada I hear has a better climate for people of your think-type.
Where does it end? When the two dopes in 006 and the "community activist" and others of their ilk recognize a color blind commitment to God and country is the way to make things better, not a mistaken commitment to racism.

Lets take the opportunity to stick our middle finger into the face of the mayor, professional athletes and anyone else who find fault in a patriotic stance for our country. First let me say thank you to all those who have showed support. Its been a very long, crazy and troubling 48hrs. since the post I was fired from a part time afterschool security job at Catalyst Maria charter school where I worked security for 2 years with nothing but great memories and interactions with the staff and students who are 99.5% minority. The reason given was that "they couldn't have someone with my views working there". I was told many staff members were complaining and it spilled over to parents calling. It was a group management decision to remove me so they could all feel better I guess instead of standing up for the 1st amendment that so many say is at the heart of the kneeling those same people endorse. Bizarro world indeed.
Then I was informed by my Sgt, after being ordered to write a to/from, that the Chief of Patrol called Commander Pontecore in 008 to tell him I would no longer be in the school unit and out of Hubbard High School. The same school I was give a department award and recognition for only a year ago. The same school where I have been for 4 years as a school officer, cross country coach, primary cook for school bbq's, recognized by Lt Col Wargo of the JROTC program there for my involvement and support of the program, location of the Brian Strouse memorial koi pond that I built with my own hands, on my own time and pretty much with my own money all in an effort to keep Brian's name on more peoples mind and to give the kids a peaceful beautiful place to escape and eat lumch. The same school where I have helped mentor dozens of kids aside from my primary duties. The same school I provided my services free of charge for various school functions on many occasions. Yet now all of a sudden I am some monster who is incapable of being around students because I held a flag.
Worst part is now threats and intimidation by trolls on facebook who have posted my address and even a picture of my building for other wackos. This is insane that my gf has to now be afraid for her and her daughter because some idiots want to further an agenda.
For the record, anyone who knows me knows, I have now just begun to fight. I will not be bullied or intimidated into silence. Thanks again and God Bless America!!

Why is it that Sun Times reporters went into the disciplinary background for officer Catanzara and did not report on the two yet unnamed black officers.Maybe reporters Armentrout and Charles would have been perceived to have written an article that is not so one sided. It's not the flag. It's the sign. And it is clear that the sign is a direct response to recent events. If those officers kneeling took that same pic before all this NFL stuff started it would not have been viral nor would they have been reprimanded for anything. It is quite clear that both pictures are a response to what is happening in the NFL i.e. they are political.

If his picture alone tells you he is a patriot you have a poor litmus test. He made a sign and took a picture. You see the guys in 006 as "reverse-racists" because???? Funny thing is I don't support what they did. It was ill-conceived and a bad idea to me, however I never figured I knew how they "feel" about white people, or anybody else, because of that picture. I've seen that fist several times growing up and let me assure of the people I am sure hated white people that was not "their sign." I don't know what it means to you when you see it but it never meant to me, nor have I ever heard any black person convey, what you are taking from it.
Several NFL players and owners, whites and those known for being conservative included, are now joining in "solidarity" because they were called "sons of bitches" and it was said they should be fired by the "leader of the free world." Many of them didn't even join until the recent comments. It never had anything to do with the flag or the country. It had to do with protesting what they feel is wrong. I was completely against it until I noticed the large volume of hypocrisy and now I support them. I stand up for the flag. I salute while at attention and I don't foresee any end to that. Why I support them? What they are doing is allowable by our constitution. The NFL is a private entity and has a right to fire employees. If the NFL fired them I wouldn't have cared EXCEPT for that players commit felonies and there is less of a fire storm and they get picked up by other teams. That is hypocrisy. We teach protest (Boston Tea Party) and celebrate protest and revolution in school (we did break away from Great Britain, no?) and then make it political when people protest something we disagree with. I'm not into protesting myself but based on history protesting and going against the grain is American. If it wasn't we'd still be in colonies.

"The Black Power" fist has roots with non-black people back to the early 20th century. It predates being used by black people and is still used by non-black people. I don't get how they are protesting themselves. The whole kneeling thing started over opposition to OISs. I am against police brutality. I also believe, in opposition to Kaepernick, that the overwhelming volume of OIS recordings show justified shootings. The worst shootings I have seen on video, that I have no defense for, are JVD and the Slaughter one out of North Charleston where dude shot a running motorist and dropped a taser next to him. Defend JVD all you want, if it was your kid or anyone you knew popped up on PCP and walking away from him, you would not have supported firing his weapon. These pictures don't prove anything except for that coppers don't know how to go to work and keep their views to themselves. I have my views too but I'm not getting paid to share them. The irony of this is not being lost on me. It shows how much we don't know about each other. I am black. Grew up in black neighborhoods and black school while doing extracurricular activities with mostly whites. Never once in all my years have I seen black people at large regard that fist as a symbol of racism and definitely not domestic terrorism. It is clear that people using that symbol did perpetuate and contribute to both racism and domestic terrorism but if you think every black person you see throwing that fist actually hates white people you're off.
I don't think every white person who loves the confederate flag hates black people. Many of them don't see it as a sign of hatred but of their southern culture. Likewise, like this fist, you cannot deny that the flag was intentionally used in actions of hatred and murder. The difference is the fist predates and was not owned by "Black Power" activist. The confederate flag was in fact created specifically to represent states attempting to secede from our country. Even still I've seen black people that use and support the use of the confederate flag. These issues are not as simple and cut and dry as people are making them.

If you think this sign means I support the office of the POTUS your reading comprehension skills are low. I am in the military and now serving under my third Commmander in Chief. You can't find anyone in uniform (except maybe close friends) that can tell you, from my mouth, how I feel/felt about any of them. As a private citizen I have First Amendment rights. They stay at home, out of uniform, with family and friends. As a service member I respect my Commander in Chief separate from my feelings as a private citizen. In the Armed Forces we defend democracy, we do not practice it. That flag did not get that officer in trouble. The sign did. Oh well. We got a West Point cadet that posted a picture with a Che Guevara shirt on and a hat with Communism Will Win inside...they are going to roast him. Oh well.

I appreciate you being honest. I didn't know white people linked "the black power fist" with racism or terrorism. We always used it as a reminder to not be afraid or ashamed of being black. That was it. If you ever know what it's like to assume people are smarter than you, more affluent than you, more everything that is positive than you...just because of your skin you'd understand why people have to overcompensate for a life of low self-esteem. It never had any connotation beyond that. In actuality, black people are not afraid of nooses or white hoods...not now. They are in general really afraid when people are vocal for Trump. I am not speaking tongue in cheek either. While I never believed he was a racist the overwhelming feeling among black people is that he relates to and "feels" the people that overtly hate black people so it creates a lot of mistrust. I had a friend, deceased for a year, that was in favor of Trump and I witnessed him slug it out with people in several conversations about why he liked Trump. There are black people who love him but most of us, not me, are afraid of him. The responses to the Charlotteville incident kind of show why. If his picture alone tells you he is a patriot you have a poor litmus test. He made a sign and took a picture. You see the guys in 006 as "reverse-racists" because???? Funny thing is I don't support what they did. It was ill-conceived and a bad idea to me, however I never figured I knew how they "feel" about white people, or anybody else, because of that picture. I've seen that fist several times growing up and let me assure of the people I am sure hated white people that was not "their sign." I don't know what it means to you when you see it but it never meant to me, nor have I ever heard any black person convey, what you are taking from it.
Several NFL players and owners, whites and those known for being conservative included, are now joining in "solidarity" because they were called "sons of bitches" and it was said they should be fired by the "leader of the free world." Many of them didn't even join until the recent comments. It never had anything to do with the flag or the country. It had to do with protesting what they feel is wrong. I was completely against it until I noticed the large volume of hypocrisy and now I support them. I stand up for the flag. I salute while at attention and I don't foresee any end to that. Why I support them? What they are doing is allowable by our constitution. The NFL is a private entity and has a right to fire employees. If the NFL fired them I wouldn't have cared EXCEPT for that players commit felonies and there is less of a fire storm and they get picked up by other teams. That is hypocrisy. We teach protest (Boston Tea Party) and celebrate protest and revolution in school (we did break away from Great Britain, no?) and then make it political when people protest something we disagree with. I'm not into protesting myself but based on history protesting and going against the grain is American. If it wasn't we'd still be in colonies.

And, how could President Trump be responsible or control the words or claims coming from someone else. Just because someone else makes a claim, it does not mean they are telling the truth. He came to roll call when he was running for a FOP spot. HIs whole platform revolved around claiming that Steve Georgas tried to fire him twice, so Georgas hates him, he stood up to Georgas, so vote for me. He also never elaborated as to why Georgas tried to fire him twice. It seems one of those times was revealed in the paper today, it appears that he tried to fire himself and he should have been. Dogging it out on the medical while working at bar, then you're gonna claim someone is trying to fuck you over.
And now look today the 29th Sep how the media is portraying him. He I lost a side job and is getting threats and students plan to walk out in protest over a picture. None of this occurred with that first picture.

I originally thought the same when I read that the “Ford foundation” had indeed donated money to BLM. I did my research that included calling Ford directly. “Ford Foundation” is not affiliated with Ford Motor Company. Currently, Ford Motor Company has NOT donated money to BLM. If Ford Motor Company ever donates to any terrorist organization like BLM or any anti military, anti police group, I will definitely trade in my ford.
