Chicago is Solvent?

Anyone got a spare $10 million lying around? Because Rahm seems to think Chicago doesn't need the money:
  • Ald. Brian Hopkins (2nd) is demanding that Mayor Rahm Emanuel explain why he wants to sell a fleet maintenance facility site on prime riverfront land in the North Branch Industrial Corridor to a developer who is not the lowest bidder.

Emanuel announced earlier this year that mega-developer Sterling Bay had agreed to pay the city $104.7 million — $133.53 per square foot — for the lucrative site near the Chicago River, where city vehicles now are maintained.

The deal also requires Sterling Bay to build a new city maintenance facility in Englewood.

What Emanuel failed to mention — and Hopkins revealed — is that Sterling Bay was not the highest bidder. ONNI Group offered $115 million for the prime piece of property.
What possible reason could there be to walk away from $10 million? Besides the usual corruption, bribe taking, greased palms, back door deals, connected contracts, political contributions, and did we mention corruption? Oh yeah, right there at the beginning.

This deal is tied into the new Academy, meaning if it gets hung up, so does the groundbreaking for the west side building. Which means cost overruns among other things that cost taxpayers money. The City that Works...or doesn't.

This city is like a B movie. It has an actual budget of $50, tries to be serious, but is laughably bad.

Found Money. $10,000,000.00! Rahm and the fifty Alderthieves will flush it away. But their pockets will be full, and overflowing.

Civilian here.

Somebody out there - hey FOP - needs to send a letter to the Letter to the Editors department and ask them about this. Not sure if they would print it, but they won't print anything if no letter is sent (and add cc: to the radio and TV stations editorial departments).

"to a developer who is not the lowest bidder."

That would be 'highest bidder', Fran Spielman of the Chicago Slum-Times. More money for the city is good.

Happy to help, media simpleton!

Not defending the mayor, but sometimes just deciding by the lower bidder isn't wise. Lower bidders don't always have the best financial backers, get cost overruns, don't have a good background of experience in these type of deals. If you are getting your house repaired do you always go with the lowest bidder. I think not
Quick example. Few years back Stanley Kusper a dem in charge of voting gave a contract , not to the lowest bidder but to a company who for years had provided the papers ballots for the election. Explained the were reliable , had been doing business for years with the county with no problems. He said because you positively needed the ballots on Election Day did you want to take a chance on some other company who was doing it for the first time, may not have the capabilities to get the job done on time
Just say, lowest bidder isn't always the best

Yeah, Rahm is worried about Hopskins inquiry.
He should start by asking Moreno-Maldonado Land Deals Inc. first, they proposed the acquisition to the magic Kabbalah.
Gotta wonder if real estate market guru Rahm bought his house through Antoin Tony Rezko, like obama.
His savvy earned him a spot on the board at Freddie Mac during the real estate mortgage crash before joining Team obama and cashing in his Freddie stock...before it collapsed.

These Chicago rotten thieving tax payer swindlers all belong in Federal prison.
Developer and President, Donald Trump may have used loopholes in the Democrats tax code using his own money, but Democrats like Daley, Vanecko, Davis and Rotten Rahm done it and continue to steal with taxpayer money.

Maybe Rahmulus does not want to run for reelection and is just racking up shady deals (just like ShortShanks) prior to his departure. Several board of directors positions (like Shortshanks) and a consulting contract will fall in his lap and he can be a tiny dancer for the rest of his pathetic life.

Isn't there some kind of a crime here? Give up 10 million to the second bidder? Being a politician is better than being a bank robber and safer to. The voters/taxpayers have no one watching there back. States Attorney ? are you kidding me?

I'd really like to know how in hell the city can even THINK about buying land with the 90 million dollar Michael Reese Hospital land sitting empty?

That location at 31st and Cottage Grove would be perfect for a new Academy!

A billion in fee's lost at city owned airport property, sold the skyway, sold the parking meters, when does the crap stop? When does some form of checks and balances actually kick in? If this was a 2rd world country these POS would have been hung in the streets along time ago. AND THE BEST STORY OF ALL TIME, THE COPS ARE THE PROBLEM!!!!! Times and Trib couldn't find a story in this town? ROTFLMAO!!!!
JUST WONDERING IF ANY ONE KNOWS WHAT THE SIGNAL WILL BE FOR THE BEGINNING OF THE END?

What will it take to wake up the steeple? The city is on the brink. What will you do when it goes over the edge. To late for that, how about plan C. Try "hands don't shoot", might work cause the cops are at least an hour away. Better get the BLM tee shirts for whole family, might buy some time.

Chump change to Rahm. He and his people steal more than that in NY minute. He'll aldercreatures get 50 million a year to waste in their wards. With no accountability. Pretty good gig. Not how they sleep at night or look at themselves in the mirror every morning, but they believe the ends justify the means. In this case the end is them getting rich on your tax dollar. But you keep voting them in.
