A Private Hotline?

  • It’s no secret: In Chicago, ordinary citizens routinely endure long waits for routine police service. But 44th Ward Alderman Tom Tunney is not a common citizen. He’s an alderman so that apparently entitles him to special police services.

According to multiple police sources, Tunney dialed a private number at the 19th District police station around 10:50 Saturday evening and demanded that officers shut down “loud music” at Diversey Harbor. Tunney’s 18th-floor condo at 330 West Diversey overlooks the harbor from a distance.

While most neighbors would consider themselves lucky to receive any kind of police response to a low-priority noise disturbance, Tunney’s complaint gained the attention of a lieutenant, a sergeant, two patrol cars and a rapid response unit.

That’s right. A rapid response unit—which typically trolls higher-crime areas to pounce quickly on incoming violent crime calls—was diverted to handle the sleepy alderman’s noise complaint along with the others.
And the end result of this "clout?"
  • Responding officers “saw no harm…and refused to hassle” the folks who were celebrating the end of summer at the harbor, one source said.

Tunney's office did not respond to a request for information about the incident.
Of course he didn't. The clouted don't like to answer questions about their misuse of clout.

WOW!
Good job by the responding officers.
Usually when an aldercreep calls the bat phone
CB#s are required.
Police were outnumbered and common sense prevailed.

Shocker. An alderman has direct dial numbers of police brass. How many police were sent isn't on Tunney, it's on the Lt and Sgt.

Oh, and if you read the comments, other citizens admit they called 911 at the same time or shortly before.

He’s a whiney bitch. Always has been. I worked in 019 (old and new). When I was there, he’d call. And to all the people who say, “he’s a good guy. He likes the police. His Restaurant would send food”, I say fuck him. He could keep his garbage food. When the public was around, he’d put on the show. When he’d call, he was an asshole. Bad drunk too. Anyone remember when someone from 023 wrote him a ticket for being on the phone while driving? If I recall, he immediately called 023 d/c and wanted to know why he got written a ticket when there was real crime happening out there. Of course, the ticket was non suited. Any old 023 people out there remember that? Was the d/c DeLopez or maybe one of the Japanese last names guy?

Too bad it does take clout to get any response.
It would be nice if us average citizens could get the same services.

I can’t tell u how many times a commander I work for has gotten a call from the alderman regarding issues and then me and my colleagues are forced to immediately deal with the situation. Even people loitering, drinking etc. it all becomes and 1A priority when the cmdr gets that phone call. I’ve also never worked for a cmdr that had the balls to tell one of the alderman “no” to any one of there stupid requests.

I, for one, am glad to see that my pretty neighborhood is being protected that well. Furthermore, I am delighted that we have the number of police supervisors who don't want to work in ghetto districts and will kiss up to an alderman in order to work in 019 and protect people like me.

Now, kees me you fool!!!!

Don't care how CPD was dispatched and don't care the complainant was an Alderman. Shouldn't the noise at past 11pm by the time officers arrived have been stopped or enforcement by way of ANOV been taken? Seems like only certain areas of this city are policed by the book.

Not surprised. I recall being sent to Clemente high school after dismissal many times years ago. Apparently, a phone call was made and we were sent to “ protect” division street. The kids would be excited and play fight on the street. The crossing guards and aides would call us every minute with” the kids are ABOUT to fight” bullshit. Nothing real ever happened. The commander hit the chicken switch almost everyday. It didn’t take much to figure out who was calling.

Undercooked runny eggs, under cooked bacon that's
greasy and sitting on a layer of white bread to try and

That's right, tiny dancer can't go into the shower on this one, so lets makes him fell special and impress his friends with a direct private number to the 19th dist. To the officers, who didn't shut down the music, thanks for using common sense, now that's a breath of fresh air.

Funny story. In 009 a alderman calls and complains that residents were selling their Sox residential parking passes. He wants everyone selling them arrested ! So we arrested a lady on 33rd and Shields. She said she didn't understand why she was being arrested. We explained the Alderman wants everyone selling residential passes arrested. she said he was the one that gave her the passes. oops

I was driving on Fullerton this morning. There's a park east of California where a bunch of little kids were playing soccer. Two police card pull up, with both officers sprinting up the stairs of a residence across the street and start banging on the door.

Two M/2 coaches in their thirties pull out their cell phones and start yelling at the cops that they got them on tape. A third M/2 in his thirties starts yelling that he I going to be on WGN.

Thanks to these numbskulls for two things.

1. Being a positive role model to all the little kids there.

Gotta love the revisionist history on the ticket. Were you on the phone to hear the conversation or is yours many versions removed and embellished? I was involved and all he asked was how to get his license back. Cmdr Y was the one who escalated it and had it delivered to him. For those who don't understand he's one of the few aldermen who supports the police, I'm done trying to convince you otherwise. Him hiring Cozzi out of prison at the request of a cop he knew who knew Cozzi should be enough.

2 men shot to death after flashing gun while driving in Pilsen

Sun-Times file photo

Two men were shot to death Saturday morning in the Pilsen neighborhood on the Near West Side, authorities said.

Alexis Salgado, 20, and an 18-year-old man were driving about 10:50 a.m. in the 1800 block of South Throop when they flashed a gun at someone standing on the street, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The person on the street pulled out their own gun and fired shots into their vehicle, striking both men, police said.

Salgado suffered a gunshot wound to his body and tried to get out of the vehicle, but collapsed, authorities said. The younger man was shot in the neck. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The shooter was not in custody, police said.

The identity of the 18-year-old was not released by the medical examiner’s office Saturday pending notification of family.

Went to his restaurant on Broadway one Sunday for breakfast. The place was packed and we were seated at a table near the kitchen. While we were waiting for our food we could hear a voice coming from the kitchen throwing f bomb after f bomb at the help. The voice was berating everyone back there telling them they were useless. My companion and I looked at each other and commented that you don't often sit in a restaurant and hear that kind of foul language and abuse out In the dining area. When our waiter came along , I said it sounds like someone in the kitchen is hard to work for. The guy said that's the owner, Tom Tunney, he does that whenever he is at the restaurant. We were a little surprised because Tunney tries to cultivate an image of Mr. Nice Guy. The waiter let us know that Tunney is a colossal asshole who treats everyone who works for him like shit.

All Aldermen suck except the two in City Worker Wonderland. Really? They maybe Sons of Italy, but they don’t walk on water,
They’re getting their beaks wet, you can be sure of that. Thus far, neither one of them has made any inclination to run for Mayor, they know which side their bread is buttered on. That in itself speaks volumes.
