Through mid-December, The Loop has recorded 356 robberies this year. That’s up from 294 last year, 179 in 2015, and just 153 in 2014, according to data provided by the city.
Now let's see the media tie this into Dart's bragging about how the jail population is at historic lows. There can't possibly be a correlation, can there?

Absolutely no fucking way it will slow down. Business is booming for robbers and thieves. Police have been vilified. Repeat offenders get a slap on the wrist. It's actually the kind of environment that would make honest people become thieves.
001 is down 18 officers from last year (if I remember reading CWB right.)
And being in the Loop after 6pm gets rather sketchy.
I've worked in 001 for many, many years and can tell you it has never been this bad. That number doesn't take into account those victims that just walk away because they don't want the hassle of waiting for a report, don't want to go to court, have to go back to another country or state or just consider the loss as the cost of being in this shithole of a city.

Muggings, wildings and car jackings are up all over the place. So fu%#£@ tired of calling in subjects while off duty on the homefront that are showing all the classic suspicion indicators (stalking behavior, etc.) only to have an F1 call taker cut you off to ask why "is that suspicious" and then argue about it, then not letting you get the full description out before cutting off the call. I'm sorry if NONE of the recent hundred or so robberies have been committed by white, asian, latino (or actual amish) individuals (or groups). It is what it is. It's their personal biases and / or a concerted effort to show "a decrease in the increase" that are driving the "reduction in crime." When they only put out a vague description of people and actions, it's hard for the car to actually pick out the yutes I guess.

For any candidates running it would be nice to see parole violators sent directly to jail, if you are out on bail and do dirt again, no bail for being that asshole. The department should create a new initiative. The small army of inside staff at Fort Fellatio a.k.a. H.Q. will ride mass transit in uniform into the Central Business District to conduct anti-cime high visability missions. An event number and CTA surveillance card will be obtained generating activity.
The Administrative or don't have to do police work officers are encouraged to wear a prescribed uniform, a duty authorized gun , a real police radio and handcuffs while conducting a two hour mission in their assigned business district retail box. Community interactions through retail purchases are encouraged and a separate event number should be obtained via OEMC. (Officers must remain in the box and sergeants will ensure strict compliance to this post mugging mission.)
The return trip will require a separate event number and surveillance card.
This is a win-win for the department. A minimum of three event numbers, positive community interactions, two bus checks and two hours in a Deployment Operations Center anti-mugging box (DOC Box). Old Retired Guy, Here, Again !!!. Yes, I had to put my "Two Cents" worth on this issue. I "Used" to ride my bicycle downtown, and on the lakefront often. My wife and I "Used" to visit Navy Pier, and the surrounding areas, with our grandchildren often. Often in the evening hours. "No More"! Yes, I have a carry permit. Sure don't want to go thru the "Stress" associated with every having to use it. No more "Downtown City Tours" for us. Sure would have loved to take our grandchildren to see the Christmas Lights. Truth is, between being pushed off the sidewalk, by four to five "Bullies" walking abreast. Being "Cat Called" by "Groups of Youths" walking through the area, looking for victims, its not worth the hassle.

It's bad but no-where near as bad as some places. Over 8600 carjackings in the Johannesburg, South Africa area last year. Thefts of cars, burglaries, robberies are insane in SA. And murders and other violent crimes are through the roof too. People of all colors are calling for them to bring back the death penalty.
I haven't been downtown on the mag mile after dark in over 30 years. Took my girls down to see the storefronts and lights when they were 4 and 5 years old. Nothing but teens and rogue-ish looking folks running and screaming all over hell. Skinny black dude says "gimme a dolla". I had a quiet " discussion" with him, and after I pointed out "my leeetle friend" he took off. No "excuse me sir. I misspoke" or anything. Just turned and ran Wtf. Some people have no manners at all. I don't think I want to try that today. He'd probably walk up and shoot me first and then go thru my pockets. Girls are now 37 and 38, and I still remember that night like it was yesterday. An old guy once told me " When I was young, I had all the answers. Now that I'm old, all I have is questions". Now I know what he meant!
Simple math. More criminals in jail =‘s lower crime rate. It’s as simple as 2+2=4. Instead we have a free for all.

They find and arrest them in 012, but so many are juveniles that they are back out marauding the next day.
In 16 and 25, if a homeowner calls 311 to report a burglary or an attempted burglary to house or garage, the first question asked by the call taker is "are you reporting this to your insurance company?" If you say no, it's classified as vandalism or damage to property on the report you get in the mail, so it doesn't show up as an index crime. With a $1000 deductible, it's usually not worth reporting to the insurance company, but these are definite break-ins.

I left Chicago for the military when I was 18. My parents moved into the far northwest suburbs since. Now when visiting, I bypass al the places I used to visit with my wife and kids...biking on the lakefront, Wrigley, museums, Adler, Chinatown, etc. I used to look for a fast-food joint in the city for a hot dog or Italian beef. In the past several years, I bypassed the city altogether, taking I-80 in Indiana to the toll roads leading to my parent's home. Used to spend decent money in the city, not anymore.
I miss it, and chances are slim that me or my family will be targeted (wrong place/wrong time), but the odds are against me in the city. Maybe someday, but I don't see it changing for the better in my lifetime. I'll have to settle for seeing the skyline via the bypass.

To each his own partner, I go to the Loop area by my lonesome and carry heavy. I try to encourage such groups to rob, mug, or assault me if they so desire. Doing this keeps me in shape and sharp. I'm by myself and that's the difference between you and me, no other family members to be concerned about. It's exhilarating, on many levels. Hey, I'm just going for a stroll in this great and beautiful City.
I know at least five coppers who called Amazon headquarters and ran down what's wrong with Chicago. They focused on the CPD having their hands tired, and the crime wave that's effecting this City. Amazon officials were told, their employees would be in danger, because of the lack of police on the street, manpower shortages and the lack of proper equipment. Once again, if the alderman responsible for 018 and 001 dont get together and demand 100 officers for each distirct immediately, then good luck at election time. Both district have substantial increases in residential units over the last 10 years with substantial decreases in police officers assigned to the districts. What is the current officer/resident ratio in these districts today and what was it just five years ago.
When the department throws the current officers assigned to 001 andf 018 numbers at you alderman/women, have them clarify how many are detailed out and are civilian. Dont trust CPD nor your mayor for any accurate reporting. You are being underserved residents of 001 and 018. Why dont you compare the officer/resident ratio with that of 007 and 011.
Oh yes, one more thing, how much are your property taxes. WAKE UP and call your aldermans office.
We the police would love to serve you, we are on your side...

Nah. We decided that we could either spend literally two hours a day filtering out racist, juvenile, or repetitive comments or we could spend that time finding original news stories that may have an impact on our readership.
We chose the latter. Comments are still wide open on our Facebook page and Twitter feed.
More power to SCC and any outlet that can commit the time, energy and mental wherewithal to keep comments sections alive.

not the police and I carry all the time. I pray, I never have to be put in a position to use deadly force. reading this blog has taught me and others, it might not be a good idea to stick around if you shoot a mugger(s). if I'm forced to use my 9mm, and if I got the change to walkaway, I'm taking it. Funny, but I see this all the time, a group of would be muggers seem to avoid any confrontation with me. It's almost like they have some type of warning system built in their heads.

They are the Jackals and low on the pecking order of predators. They sense you are not prey and avoid you and that to me is unfortunate. I've also seen exactly what you mentioned, for some unknown reason they avoid me also. It could be, we look at them as prey and that goes into a feeling to flee, just as a Jackal would, when confronted by a Tiger or more dangerous predator. Sorry, but I have to say it, shoot to kill.

To each his own partner, I go to the Loop area by my lonesome and carry heavy. I try to encourage such groups to rob, mug, or assault me if they so desire. Doing this keeps me in shape and sharp. She will never ask for more cops. Reilly and Hopkins are too busy hustling campaign cash from every bra and developer and contractor for unnecessary building. Hopkins is buddies with rick simon and republican power people and allows Rahm to do anything. Cops are taken from 01 and 18 and given to the south and west sides in exchange for ghetto votes. Rahm knows the idiot libs and the lgbtq community in lake view and boystown will still vote for him so he could care less. It’s time Rahm be stopped once and for all. He must be investigated, indicted and jailed.
