Copper Injured

  • A Chicago police officer and two men were injured in a Near West Side crash after the officer was responding to shots fired Saturday morning.

The officer was responding to a report of a person shot in the 2300-block of West Adams Street at about 2:49 a.m., police said. The officer was then involved in a three vehicle crash in the 2000-block of West Madison Street.

The officer was transported to Rush Hospital, where he was treated and released.
Over 3,500 people got shot in 2017. Don't worry - there will always be plenty more.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Shootings/murders down in NYC and L.A.,
but way, way UP in Chicago.
>3,500 shootings in 2017?
Let's go for the same in 2018 and get 7,000!
That's one hell of a depopulation machine.

When i was new we always sped to the person shot calls for some reason too. To be the first on scene to see the carnage maybe? To be the first to call out “yeah squad, it’s bona fide over here send an ambulance.” I don’t know why, but we all did it. I’m in a slower place now where we don’t respond to many people shot calls. I think the novelty is gone now for me, but i do understand the feeling when you’re new. Just take it a little slower going to those calls, like scc said, there’s 3,000 of them a year and not one is worth severely hurting yourself or partner over.

Typical lefty TV news..."Police are investigating how this police car got involved in an accident."

They were against the police before any details are even given out. What, Wow, there was an accident and somehow this police car was found and is a surprise to everyone...? Did the officers run from the scene and hide in the bushes and not tell anyone about it?

Slow it down, guys and gals. The biggest killer of officers every year is still traffic related incidents. Arrive alive!

File this preventable department vehicle crash under "Self Inflicted via Stupidity".

Unless it's "Shots Fired At The Police" or "Shots Fired By The Police" (or a legit 10-1), there's absolutely no need to blue light it to the scene. Remember... Priority 1A jobs ALLOW emergency vehicle operation, they don't REQUIRE same. Slow roll to these jobs with extremely few
exceptions.

Same goes for the infamous loud reports called in as "On View Shots Fired" - too many coppers can't seem to differentiate between the two.

It's been said a million times... you're of no use to the unit calling for help if you can't get there. That said, a mutt shot at Westhaven or Saint Stephen's IS NOT AN EMERGENCY. Nor is a foot chase for dope or a pistol.

Are there any oldtimers left in 012 to show the pups the errors of their ways?

Sincere prayers, thoughts with the officer.

These idiots on the road are half doped up, stoned, drunk, are texting, on the cell phone, putting makeup on, chugging a soda, have the music up to deafening levels and your sirens are interrupting their looking for "friends" on FB.

The family is more important than the hour after hour after hour crud times 20, 25, 30, 35 years. It has to affect a person. I dealt with people 33 years and am "peopled out!"

And old supervisor to me: "I hated the streets. I had to do what I had to do to get off the streets."

There are people in this world dumb as the day is long. You can't save them, you can't help them. Some are your people held until a judge releases them, some are your bosses.

NOT ILLINOIS. NOT LAW.

You are 100% correct SCC.
In ChiRaq the will always be another shots fired call.
The POs are probably injured, the driver PO will get suspended.
It is not worth getting into a TA.

Very true most of us were like above.

Slow down and be careful. No call is worth getting disabled, disfigured or dying.

The coverage also leaves out the fact that dude was shot and the shooter dropped his cell phone in the gangway as he ran. Hope that helps the D-unit solve it.

CO”PRA Department traffic crash reconstruction team responding.

Shots Fired...is that unusual?
Why the rush for a 19P ?

There are two pedals near the floorboard of that Explorer.
Use the wider one on the left more frequently.
By keeping a foot on it, the gaskets and seals and kept lubricated and prevents them from drying out.
Also try to keep the P in PRNDL engaged.
It promotes good health.

Why would you let yourself get into a TA on the way to a call?

Once you put on the lights and siren you have to drive MORE CAREFULLY
than when your "on patrol." It does not matter what the other guy does,
when you turn on the emergency stuff anything that happens is YOUR FAULT.

Nobody in this city or county cares about shots fired, a person shot or even a
person(s) shot death. But, when a copper injures or kills someone in a TA
everybody wants to tar & feather all police.

If you look at officer fatality data on the job, car accidents is one of the top few of them. Slow down, drive defensively and realize Chicago people drive like assholes.

Now if we could just have similar response times when someone in 016 needs the police. You know it might not seem like glamours ghetto shots fired and bodies but it’s real tax paying citizens and protecting the home front which is real police work. Some day when your hard charging days are over or you get sued by the folks your were trying to help you'll realize that servicing and protecting the people that actually support you and give a fuck about you is the greatest satisfaction on this job.

Bravo, well said. Nothing was more frustrating than starting to roll towards an "emergency" with the unit calling it in not providing timely descriptions location or direction of flight. And then - after taking a couple intersections against the lights at high speed - have the unit finally relay they're chasing FOR DOPE!!!! A cordial reminder that dope IS NOT AN EMERGENCY. Neither is the drinker or ANOV subject who decided to run off. Neither in 99% of the shit people chase for. My rule is I don't ride on calls for assistance unless it involves known officer safety reasons or it's a 10-1. I'll ride on the dope boy you're chasing when he starts getting the better of you when you're trying to place him custody. Otherwise??? Figure out what's important and when it's acceptable to put my life in danger responding to your assist. I refuse to roll the dice with possibly being stuck in a wheelchair the rest of my life because your known warrant arrest beat you in a foot race to the house and mama locked the door in your face. Learn to pick and choose your battles and keep your brothers and sisters in blue safer because of it. Wishing the hurt officer a speedy recovery.

In the absence of law enforcement authorities, one is presented with an opportunity to discretely apply full measure solutions to problems which can be solved only by applying full measure means.

To merely blow off steam, in whatever venue, has no effect on the problem.

Be silent, be swift, be discrete and value the efficacy of precisely choosing the moment.

And give thanks of the absence of half measure law enforcement presence, as even half measure is a generous assessment of the effective value these days......

And while some may say this is being too much like those who are the problem, this fire cannot be extinguished by water, especially the pitiful dribble of our current "justice" conglomerate, nor can it be extinguished by any other means than removing the air that feeds it......from the lungs of those who deem to be privileged to do whatever the fuck they want to whoever the fuck they choose.

A dead asshole shits but one more time.......

well said sir! finally someone who speaks the truth. I've never found satisfaction in working the ghetto. it's pointless, almost like standing over a trash can all day and swatting at flies in their natural habitat...makes no sense. now, when those flies get in the house...we've got another problem...
