So the families buried six of the ten kids killed in the recent Little Village fire. This didn't get much play in the media:
- Six white caskets arranged in a semi-circle stood in front of the altar at Our Lady of Tepeyac in Little Village on Saturday morning, holding six of the 10 victims of last weekend’s house fire — the smallest for Amaya Almaraz, only 3 months old, lying at the center.
More than 200 community residents, friends, and family members — many bearing white t-shirts airbrushed with the names of the deceased — came to pay respects to the deceased at the historic Catholic church just two blocks away from the site of the horrific blaze.

Tensions briefly flared in the middle of the services, and police were called to break up a dispute between two men that drew a large crowd outside the church. The encounter later ended in a handshake.
And what would cause "tensions" to flare at a funeral for children? Well, that would be the historical "tensions" in that part of the city, caused by flashing certain hand signals at each other in the middle of a church service for kids. "Tensions" is a polite way of saying "assholes who couldn't control themselves, even at this most somber of occasions."
But let's not point that out. No doubt they'll be shooting at each other in short order.

To the lay man in church, the hand gestures were misconstrued as gang signals. It was actually a form of non-verbal communications. English was foreign to many of the gangbanging church goers. So many different dialects from so many south of the border rural areas migrated to Chicago and led to confusion in their native tongues. Many were confused as were to wear the bill of their baseball caps often tilting it to the left side when most educated, law abiding, God fearing, productive American sport fans wear their caps with the bill in the middle. It is a great case study to be included in the cultural awareness, cultural diversity block of training for recruits.
As a sign of respect to the heavy police presence, we know the folks and peoples were mindful of the Gang Reduction Strategy General Order 10-01 as required as a condition of parole, probation or work release.

Here is a reminder of the principles to be strictly adhered to by law enforcement officers in Chicago’s War on Gangland Terror when dealing with homicidal murders and purveyors of bloodied mass destruction:

I just finished reading all the articles in the Sun-Times and the Tribune regarding this tragedy, and without a doubt this tragedy is chock-full of assholes, otherwise known in the Little Village neighborhood as pendejos.
Besides the two assholes -- pendejos -- at the church service, the main asshole IMHO is the, excuse the term -- Mother of Five of the dead children, Yolanda Ayala, 35, who lived in the apartment where the kids were sleeping and where the fire started. But oddly, wasn't home during the fire.
This Yolanda Ayala woman has 21 Complaints filed against her with the DCFS that goes back yeeeears. She also has a POLICE RECORD for Theft and Drug Dealing. And to show what a sterling ::cough:: 'mother' she's been, her oldest Daughter, 16, ALSO has a Police Record for Theft (shoplifting). That asshole tried using a relative's 7 month old baby in a stroller to hide the purloined goods.
In addition, Yolanda Ayala was in the process of being evicted for complaints of noise and, oh yeah... Drug Dealing. The asshole also hasn't paid her rent in the months since her Lease expired.
Everywhere you look in this tragedy you find an asshole acting like an asshole.

I'm liking my quiet suburban life as well. But I think it'll be even better when I'm doing it outside of Illinois(sooner than later). It'll be fun watching this place eat itself alive.

Tells like these are very important. If people can't get the little things right - like, you know, behaving themselves at a mass funeral for children - just think how they'll do when trying to form a cohesive society.

A couple years ago, there was a similar living arrangement going on in a popular NW Side neighborhood that few would call troubled or poverty-stricken. Female Hispanic, early 30's "unemployed" but in charge of a household of anywhere from 5 to 10 children, all between toddler-aged to maybe 10/12 yrs old. Their fathers were incarcerated gang members and she was the gang's foster mom. I'd like to tell you she was a saintly and determined soul, striving to help these kids find a better life and beat the circumstances they were born into. But I would be bullshitting. No, in fact, she was a drug-dealing cunt and horrible neighbor who hosted loud, destructive parties, resulting in garbage and broken glass everywhere. Property damage, car burglaries, etc.. Finally she got evicted after a shooting incident outside the residence during one of these festive occasions.
To their credit, CPD responded to every complaint call, made arrests when they could, and advised the neighbors on how to survive the savagery.
Bottom line: Neighbors have to speak up, call Police when and where appropriate and bad landlords have to be held accountable (it was a rental property, of course). Our foster system also obviously continues to be flawed and there are too many unfit guardians getting custody. If the neighbors in Little Village had taken action sooner, maybe those 10 children wouldn't have died from their guardian's negligence.
spent the whole week in a smallish town in wisconsin ( 25,000 ) people. on weekends folks walk and bike at all hours of the night and day. no fights, no speeding cars with loud music blaring, no hyenias screaming obcenities, no drunks, no homeless or beggars, never heard a siren all week. blue collar working class town not a rich tourist destination, everybody works somewhere. what possibly could be the differance between this place and my home town shitcago. gotta be something, just cant put my finger on it...........

I grew up in that neighborhood on Whipple just a couple of houses south from the one that burnt. About 50 years ago some idiot was having a party and barbecuing on the third story front hallway in Pilsen. The fire in his grill got out of control and he ran down three flights sloshing flames all over the hallway. By the time it was over over a dozen kids burnt to death. And who did the media blame? Why the Fire department for not having any Spanish speakers on site. The media was as bad then as it is now.
