The first weekend in August, following some 70 people headed to bed or the morgue with extra holes in their bodies, Special Ed flooded the streets with officers:
- After the most violent weekend in Chicago in more than two years, police Superintendent Eddie Johnson announced Tuesday afternoon that several hundred additional officers have been deployed to neighborhoods most wracked by the shooting.
At his second news conference in as many days, Johnson said 430 officers have been added to patrols in five of the hardest-hit districts on the West and South sides. Those numbers will increase to 600 by the weekend, he said.
That involved canceling days off, offering huge amounts of overtime and pretty much lying to the media - which ate it up like it was fresh off the griddle. It made a dent in the numbers, but still, over 50 people got shot.

Wow. From 600 to 1,400 in just four weeks? That's amazing. Special Ed ought to be promoted to "Super-Duper-Intendent" just based on his ability to hire, train and equip 800 additional bodies on short notice.

Even with days off canceled, we were able to man a whopping 3 extra rapid cars. I remember the days of all the cars being manned 10-4 and being able to take a day off on a whim.
Rahm was storing all those extra officers in his basement next to the wedding dress.
You know what grinds my gears, these assholes cancel every day off they can for the street cops but take a drive past HQ or homan on any of these same weekends and all you see is tons of parking. It must be nice to cancel everybody else's day off while you're spending yours with your family and relaxing. Never been on the medical in 19 years but just don't care anymore. F-U ed!

No surprise to me and shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone else. That’s a lot of officers around. Unfortunately they are not in the districts. You can get 500 out of headquarters alone, not to mention other units. Look in you FOP book at the listing of units. Notice how many units there are.
No matter the numbers, nothing being the only action allowed, things are as the feckless fools intend them to be.

Hey if they want to offer the OT, take it. Provide officer presence and that’s it. If they demand numbers then ignore it. Go in and make the extra money/time, or just stay home and relax (unless you’re cancelled).

Sgts need to step up and help stop the crime wave. That means, making stops, writing tickets, handling call for police help, etc. In the suburbs, sgts work too. They should not be congregating at the donut shop or hiding in the station. No other industry would permit highly skilled and knowledgeable employees produce nothing to better the business.

You should stop those gears from grinding, it's not good for your health. Homan had both days off cancelled this week. They also often work and meet at a district so of course you'd see a lot with 'tons of parking' on fillmore.
Keep cancelling days off.
What you'll have is a whole lot of coppers that are too tired.

if you’re working OT this weekend (whether by choice or force) remember to stay the extra hour to swipe out. In our district the Lt and Sgts were clear to stay the extra hour. Of course, half the people ignored this and left. Is it really that hard to sit around the station and do nothing?
The general order is clear and supervisors gave advanced warning. Our Sgt was absolutely livid. Maybe some won’t care, why risk taking a day (or not having your full work day credited)?
I know an excellent way of making men grow. Stop by my pretty loft for some of my famous white wine spritzers and we can talk about it.

Maybe you need to look a little bit harder at Homan, because our days off have been cancelled for quite some time. There are three parking lots in addition to the cars parked on Fillmore. Plus, some teams report directly to districts. Trust me, they’ve been working us into the ground.

Cant believe this was on the cover of the slum times. I've been hearing a lot of grumbling around the station lately and the coppers are getting tired of this grand plan of cancelling days off on these holiday weekends. Pissed off coppers is not a good thing when we have van dyke, back to school, cubs fever, and consent decree problems on the horizon.
“Reporters” at the Chicago times and trib are just that. They report what they are told to report. No one told them they should be asking questions or actually trying to determine if there is some truth to what they are printing.
DId it ever occur to one reporter “hey, where the heck did they get an extra 500 police officers”? Or maybe “wow, how much does 500 extra police officers cost for Labor Day weekend”?

Also white shirts don’t have to get canceled. The order says they do but they blow it off and have no problem rubbing it in your face saying they’re not coming in. They can do this because the other white shirts (Lts, Capt, and commander) do the same thing and will never fuck with a fellow white shirt.

There are no real investigative reporters anymore, except when it is something involving a conservative. Otherwise, the media is only a lapdog, beholden to the left’s ideology. Media is just another wing in the Democratic Party, aiding and abetting the left in their attempt to overthrow the Republic. Treason trials should be held if rule of law still means anything, and appropriate sentence carried out.

Anyone have an ETA on when the Mayor, Superintendent, and CPD brass realize that the average patrolman (And women) in the rank and file are doing less than ever, and that is contributing to higher crime. Canceling days off wont improve it. Many officers are just sucking up the OT and doing as little as possible. And how much do you think PO's want to actually work when their morale takes a hit and cant look forward to a day off.

About 15 years ago, I was in the academy class with this guy, who’s now a CPD Sgt. I remember this guy failed the POWER test when we took it at Homan Square. He also failed the first POWER test while in the Academy class and wasn’t allowed to wear khakis since he couldn’t pass any POWER test. However, this guy magically graduated with us on time. No one knows how this SGT (a 6ft plus and 300 lbs. plus frame) passed the test. Maybe because his father held a high ranked in Law Enforcement? It’s the Chicago way!!
All of the 19th district CAPS people are watching tv and socializing behind closed doors. There big assignment is planning the next party for the seniors who live in Lakeview. Yes, they are the special .

Hey, Asshat. I’m in 193 and they cancelled our days off on Wednesday of last week for this past weekend. And, effective 3 weeks ago they cAncelled our 2nd day off thru the end of summer. Which in police speak probably means through Halloween. So stop crying!

Inspectors are showing up to roll calls harassing the working P.O’s about fooliness, while the house mice at the morgue and Forensics (E.T’s) are doing 3 hour shifts. Who monitors them?
Thing is, it doesn’t matter how many officers you deploy if you don’t let them BE THE POLICE...and then follow that up with aggressive prosecution. It always gets me when they just talk numbers. Wtf difference does 1,400 officers make if they are all hiding somewhere watching Netflix becausw they’re afraid to put foot to ass because of the “optics”?

I don't disagree with you at all, but I have seen the blurb about keep voting democrat in several posts. Unfortunately, it's a communist city, county, and to some extent state, one doesn't have a choice, there are no Republican candidates, as such democrats will probably rule for another 50 years.

Why would anyone hold interest in stopping a crime wave that the politicians and community embrace? So only in the suburbs, the Sgt's work? It sounds like you should apply there or become a Lt. here so you could enforce your ideas.
