Supposedly, Special Ed is finally moving forward on correcting the biggest error of the McCompStat era - closing two detective Areas. Welcome to Area West:
- 011 and 015 are driving just about all of the west side violence, so Area West will be created out of the remnants of Area North encompassing 011, 014, 015, and 025. The meeting 08 November will give people the option to stay or leave.
Interesting rumor. It's been going around the D unit for nearly two years that Area Four will reopen as West. Looks like it might finally happen. Lord knows we need another two or three exempt spots to fill and drain the pension fund.
UPDATE: It's a RUMOR people. It's subject to change, especially the list of Districts. Stop commenting like this is written in stone - we can see a couple of issues that need to be ironed out already, like why not make 010, 011 and 015 all part of the same Area since all of the gang conflicts in North Lawndale, Austin and Garfield intersect anyway?

The teletype is out requesting applications for Captain SES. Applications are due no later then 07 Dec. keep in
Mind that out of 131 that we’re found to be eligible from the last batch, 31 were sent to school and only 12 were actually promoted leaving 18 still trained ready to go (1 retired). But who are we fooling? The apps are due Dec 7th, between Xmas and New Years and conducting all of the interviews it will be March before they make anyone off that list. Why is March so important? Well that’s when Lie Tenant Fenner hits her 2 years as a Lt and becomes eligible for Captain SES. Also, March is the Mayoral election, April is the runofff election and Kidney Bean will most likely be replaced shortly thereafter. Remember, Earned not Given.

Why would Area West only take 4 districts, and leave Area Central with 8 districts?
Especially from a detectives standpoint, a lot of the BS shootings and murders and other assorted nonsense spills back and forth across Roosevelt between 010 and 011. Why not make 010 am Area West district also, in an effort to keep tabs on the problems that affect both of those districts? If they are in separate areas, a lot of intelligence and understanding will be lost.
But that’s likely why the city will do it, since when does the city make sense in anything it does?

Completely false. Area West will consist of 2 AN districts and 2 AC. 15 11 10 12. The meeting has zero to do with that since this mainly affects Bureau of Dets not Bureau of Patrol.
Just had lunch with a table of retired members.
Most of all of us worked west side for entire length of career.
The biggest point discussed at the table was why this west side area was closed.
The best we could assume was the savings they made closing the Area down and consolidating the Areas.
We all can see how well that worked out. Now look at the districts that were closed down and consolidated.

Here’s what I’m hearing. Area West detectives to work out of Harrison/Kedzie. Area West patrol (Dep Chief/XO staff and sat/gang teams) to work out of Grand/Central while Area north (016/017/019/020/024) to work out of Belmont/Western with their own Dep Chief/XO etc
I say go back to 5 Dic areas and find a way to reopen a 13th district somewhere.
Does it make a difference? Eddie keeps shuffling chairs on the Titanic, and we all know how that goes! Some of the issues with opening up Area West: No cars, no computer server, no Supervisors being released by Bureau of Patrol and the Mayor no longer has this as a priority since he is not running for office. Area West may open eventually but it will happen or not happen with the new Mayor.
So.....what would area north do?

McCarthy single handedly destroyed this police department. He was a Captain with 10 years on the job in New York. He has no significant police experience. Received scholarships his entire career. This man fooled a mayor that was looking at a huge budget deficit. We will be paying the price for his inexperience for years to come.

I think you should push a beat car and see what it is to police in Chicago in 2018. From your little rant, I would guess you haven’t in at least 15 years. What do you consider “not performing”? What QUOTA would you put in place for detectives? Coppers like you are the reason we have in-car cameras and body worn cameras. I voted yesterday... I really did. I tried my best to make my vote matter. But as I stood there I felt like a dolt. No opposition on so many positions. I voted no on all judges well because why would I vote for the way they judge now. But this ain't my first rodeo... Grew up in Keane's ward. Knew how it worked at a tender age. Grand Central Station (025) will be converted in to a Railroad Station for Metra and Amtrak. The lots will be Pay Park & Ride for commuters.
This is true, they are contemplating who the bosses will be. Probably will be a commander from the other areas and lieutenants who have "D" expierence. Looking for a first period start date with the bosses and admin staff there before that. They have recently moved a bunch of Sgts to the "D" some will be moved to the new area. Happening.

When I worked in A/5 we had Dean Andrews cadre of henchmen. My reports were scrutinized to ad nauseum level. I saw others rejected reports with punctuation and word sentence grammar circles in Red ink.
No multiple were cleared and approved unless they met the smell test for falsified reports. It became difficult to suspend a case unless all reasonable attempts were made to contact the victims. Progress reports, Line up reports, 5-10 page Narratives in Detective Supplementary reports. Updates of running files, and taking phone calls off duty to keep clueless supervisors posted.
Unless there was an Audit. Then anything would pass. Everything needed to be closed. Before I made dick, I wrote reports and never gave them another thought. Now when you are assigned a case there is a running clock on every case. I believe back in the day 15 days was the norm. Give or Take.
Go back to your hole or your favorite hour long lunch spot. Stay down on a transport, or paper job. Who is less accountable?
