Dean Cleared
- Former Chicago Fraternal Order of Police President Dean Angelo, Sr. was cleared Tuesday on charges brought against him by the union he once lead, sources said. FOP 2nd Vice President Martin Preib filed a charge against Angelo on Oct. 5 — the same day Jason Van Dyke’s guilty verdict was announced — alleging Angelo was out of line when he spoke to reporters at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse during the high-profile trial.
Angelo could not be reached for comment Tuesday afternoon, but sources close to him and the FOP told the Sun-Times that he was cleared of wrongdoing. In December, a three-member panel of the FOP recommended that Angelo — who is still a voting member of the FOP board — not be disciplined, an FOP source said.
Tuesday, the full board — aside from FOP President Kevin Graham, who abstained from voting — cleared Angelo of wrongdoing, though the vote “wasn’t unanimous by any means,” according to the FOP source.

The entire case was based on if the President sent Dean a letter telling him to stop talking to the media . He lied like he always does and then threw Prieb under the bus . Graham left this morning to hide out in Florida . Please show at the next meeting and ask him the questions if he sent the letter ? Graham caused these problems by his failure to be a leader . PREIB did what he thought was right but got lied to AGAIN! Dean knows the rules but hey he doesn’t care !
I was at the meeting and not one ounce of proof. Isn’t Prieb a cop and an investigative writer? Charge without proof? Fractures in FOP is right. They were catfighting in there. And they are negotiating a contract ? No faith.
Who said FOP doesn't do anything? Surprised they didn't wait to long to take part.
Get rid of these guys next election, too. Just as bad as the last crew. They’ve shown nothing in the nearly two years they’ve been there. That’s not an invitation or an endorsement for the other old crew either (Dougherty, Donahue, Aguilar, etc...).

If you actually knew anything about anything, you would have known the letter didn't mean shit. The letter was dated after the fact which would mean the charges were and are still bullshit. Come on we are all police, or at least supposed to be.....if you don't have proof you shouldn't be putting forward any charges.
I am glad that it had nothing to do with the good outing.

A a 23 year member of the FOP I seriously believe they owe me all of my dues back. I find them to be self serving, arrogant and most of all useless. I’d also like an forensic audit on how funds are spent. No accountability there. Lastly there are many who have been at the trough for way too long. Term limits are needed.

The entire FOP Board of Directors and every elected position upstairs needs to be voted out. The lack of action by the board and President Graham shows the utter incompetence that have been bestowed upon us.
A consent decree into action

The use of body cameras that has not been negotiated via a contract are just a few things that should have been done by these stooges. But instead a unanimous vote to raise their monthly stipend from $600 to $700 a month seems be be the only item of business that has been done.Get rid of of the all from the top on down.
I don't know how any of these guys show their faces in public.

Good question about a contract because over here they have public support and with our news affairs rep (oh wait we don't have anyone representing us):

Pried wants only to further Prieb’s agenda. He had potential, but like most who go into that office on Washington Blvd. theyvfkrget they are the police and live high off the hog.

When will the membership realize that all these hacks in the F.O.P. are no different than the rest of the corrupt elected politicians in IL? Some of them may start off with good intentions, but once they get in and start collecting the big pay raise, enjoy short work days and going to conventions courtesy of our union dues, a take home car for some; they all get corrupted into doing what's best for themselves. They don't want to lose their power or perks at the F.O.P. They do NOTHING about Chicago's out-dated residency policy, because they are in bed with the Chicago politicians (as much as they try to deny it). When Graham Crackers was elected, the FOP put out a survey. The membership brought up residency as one of the top 5 issues the membership wants addressed, yet he wrote a few words in a newsletter about it and we never heard about it again. Residency has been eliminated practically everywhere else in modern American policing except for Chicago. Why? Because the FOP, and Chicago, are corrupt!

Kevin Graham did it again. He threw Prieb under the bus for the umptieth time. Here is how Graham operates. He has an idea, he runs it by Prieb(he goes to Prieb because Prieb is a very good writer, in which Graham is not) Prieb then takes on whatever it is decided. If the action is good, Graham takes credit for it. If the action goes south he blames Prieb. There has been SEVERAL ISSUES where Graham claims he did not know or says Prieb went against his wishes. The latest issue all started when former Commander John Burge died. This was during the JVD trail and EVERYONE AT FOP AGREED THAT IT WAS NOT IN JVD best interest to talk about Burge's death during the trail. Kevin Graham also agreed to this. The FOP let it be known that no one should talk about Burge. When Angelo went in front of the cameras and spoke about Burge it was KEVIN GRAHAM THAT GOT INFURIATED and started the discipline process to begin. Graham again had Prieb draft a letter and sent it to Angelo. Here is where it gets convoluted. There are several elected officials who are still loyal to Angelo. They got into Graham's ear and he backdown. Graham is a spineless leader. Again, there has been several noteworthy incidents where Graham was in agreement with a particular course of action including two very controversial incidents and when things went south Graham bailed (You know which ywo I am talking about Kevin) If I was Prieb I would go back to a district and say fuck it. But here is the problem, if Prieb did that then there would be one less official to fight for the membership. Graham is only looking out for Graham, like I said spineless and ball less.
These two con men, Donahue and Dougherty still run the FOP. They have caused more harm to the membership than one will ever know. Two self serving selfish pricks. Speaking of pricks, the FOP mystery writer is on his own agenda. What an embarrassment MP is!
If any person(s) should be removed from the FOP it's these two. Then continue to launch the rest of the Board. These little women are still bickering within their meetings. Again, nothing gets accomplished in the way of negotiations.

Donahue and Dougherty are doing a great job undermining FOP. They are an evil cabal. What about the raise $$$ the board gave themselves? In fighting? What kind of "MEN" represent us? No Contract!
Several days ago, a link was posted in the comments, illinoissunshine.org. Researching led me to FOP Chicago Lodge contributions. Nice to see where my money used to go. Donating to politician police haters is really great. The best was donations to Deb Mell who battered Supervisors downtown at a demonstration many years ago. This makes me very proud that I am no longer a member.

In light of all the negative press for years that put this charade of a criminal trial in the forefront, there was never going to be anything anyone could say that would have made a difference in the Cook County politically predetermined outcome.
Waste of FOP time but the point was made, even if it was to take a jab at the old regime.

Well the right decision was reached. Kevin was caught in a lie after being called out.
I have certainly had my difference of opinions with Dean. Hell he even has lied to my face in the past. However Prieb was not doing what he thought was right. He was being spiteful and going by emotions instead of facts. There was ZERO evidence provided that Dean ever portrayed himself as a union spokesman. It was a huge waste of time. All this was attempted to be held under executive session which was shot down and Dean pushed to be open.
The petty bullshit really needs to stop.

I agree with your statement but to be fair, there were a few guys that had the decency to vote no to the raise. Among them were Jay Ryan, Jim Jacksavich, Bella, Capparelli, And a few other retired guys. Go on Facebook and you can mike Underwood go after every copper who disagreed with the raise.
You all know that the new law says you cannot be forced to pay union dies. So why are you still paying they are doing absolutely nothing for you.
We need a contract and protections. We don't need to hang newspaper men and college
professors.
That lack of cohesion is EXACTLY what the city loves to hear as we are working without a contract. Such friction amongst our collective bargaining unit puts us at an extreme disadvantage come negotiation time.
At that point, not only are we engaged in a contentious back-and-forth with the city, but also amongst ourselves.
Wtf is really going on over there? It should be that hard to get capable people, who care about what’s best for the membership to go to bat for us.

Dean Angelo is a goof. He is a scammer that back stabs anyone and everyone. He should have been removed from the board but unfortunately the current president has "no Balls"
All you need are 3,000 signatures to decertify FOP.
