Towing Scam

  • According to a WBEZ analysis of thousands of towing records and invoices, the city regularly pulls residents into a nexus of ticket-related debt and car seizures that is stunning in its scope.

In 2017 alone, Chicago booted more than 67,000 vehicles for unpaid tickets. In about a third of those cases, the driver couldn’t afford to remove the boot, and the vehicle was later towed to a city impound lot.

Of those 20,000 impounded cars, more than 8,000 ended up like Botello’s: They were sold off, with the owners receiving none of the sale proceeds. Instead, the city and its towing contractor pocketed millions of dollars, while residents were left with ticket debt.

All told, there have been nearly 50,000 of these sales since 2011.
So the only people making money were the connected towing companies....who then made the appropriate political donations to Chicago pols. Sure, you can avoid tickets by driving safely and parking properly, but this is mildly ridiculous.

Remember when Shortshanks cut Policemen
out of the court o/t stream?

Remember when the Revenue'er boot crews
came into existance with a vengeance?

Remember when Shortshanks, as an f/u
to The Police, gave the Revenue'ers
CPD style stars and got them all up
like they were "enforcement officers?"

Heh...

Remember when some Revenue'ers got sideways
with ol' boy on the Keeler block of West Jackson
while they were booting his sled?

>Riotous rachet-jawin' an' signifyin'<

"Y'all hol' that thought... Be right back..."

Hilarity absolutely ensued when that window
sash hit the stop and ol' boy gave a 9mm
reply to the shit talk by the Revenue'ers...

One shot-the-fuck-up boot van...
Still running and nary a Revenue'er in sight.

Funny shit.

"Work your hand real easy while
it's in the lion's mouth..."

That's what the old "yeller clay"
folks from down yonder said.

But stealing people's property
and selling it for mere pennies on the dollar
without any recourse because it's enshrined
as a municipal ordinance, is a sin and a shame.

No pity for the shit heads but for
legit, struggling, little people
get hurt like this is pretty foul.

Chicago Municipal Ordinances are chock FULL
revenue oriented jackpots and trick-baggery.

Maybe the next mayor can strike a blow
and put an end to this evil and twisted shit.

One more thing Shortshanks needs to burn for...

Who do we think owns those towing companies? Who owns the land where the impounds go? Why aren’t these towing companies ever the target of any Aldermen? Apparently it was much more important to regulate foi gras.

Maybe some political family from the 19th Ward can answer these questions.

Follow the money.

Circa '79 my car got towed for snow clearing up in East Rogers park, and was supposed to be towed to the lake parking lot. SOMEHOW, it wound up at the pound on Sacramento, sitting on milk crates, with no bucket seats or stereo, mag wheels, tires, battery, or my carpenter tools in the forced open trunk. I was told it came in like that. Curious. It was sub zero outside. Must have been Eskimo car strippers/thieves working the streets that night. 'Ya think?

Sure I feel bad for someone who is struggling to raise a family and money is tight. In their example however the Hispanic female and her family are recepients of government programs and scholarships to help ease the financial burden placed upon her. She still is unable to pay for stickers and tickets. The cities program does escalate quite quickly, however they do allow for monthly payment programs. My point is when is enough enough. They get federal aid, local scholarships who knows what other handouts and still society holds them back. Maybe I’m wrong but everybody else has to pay for these city stickers and license plates and I know my kids aren’t getting any scholarships or federal aid. It’s kinda like when I’m told “ I make too much or those programs are for minorities only.” People have to realize life isn’t necessarily fair and you have to do what it takes to get by and stop expecting the government to pay for everything. All this “free” stuff is easing my taxes.

Accountability - Once again:
I have had a car towed once in 48 years - and I deserved it.
People - have your car legit and do not park where your not supposed to.
And if it is too hard for you to park - then move.
If all u haters of tow companies had the same business - u would stop the hating.
Open a tow business then.
I personally think it is a dirty business too - but it is what it is!

I remember taking the family Down Town or on the Lake Front, CPD always had a place for us to park and it was always a safe outing. Now you have to pay for you're parking and walk a long distance to your destination; there's red-light camera's, speed camera's and the one's directing traffic are some of the biggest goofs on the planet. I've watch my city go to hell under the den's and will be moving in the spring to Tennessee.

U get car towed- u are probably just another individual in the city that feels accountability does not apply.
Most who get towed are complete jag***s, who deserve it.
And if u can't afford to get ur car out of pound, i can guarantee from experience u will not have insurance and plates likely expired.
Cry me two tears!

Consider that many of the cars towed are shitboxes - once impounded, if someone doesn't come pick it up, they auction it off to pay for the impound and tow fees. Car isn't worth much more than that, if it even is at all.

Add paperwork costs to that to tell the fool that they're not getting their car back or any money because the costs weren't covered, and you might as well then ask them for additional costs...

And they sold how many vehicles, for what maybe $100. each, now the bigger question is how much was given back in the plain envelopes to the elected fiefdom of corrupt democrats in the most corrupt city, state, county in the entire country. It is said we have more corruption here than a third world country, but then again with rahm and the crew allowing all the illegals in,and giving billions in tax dollars to we look the same!

I always tell people to read ALL the parking signs very carefully. Some sign posts have 3 different parking signs, and can seem confusing or contradictory. When the Bottman gets you, it's a downward spiral aimed at getting your car to fall into a giant black hole.

Actually you can do City Sticker Tickets as well.

Go after the high end cars that are most likely owned by Gold Coast and Lincoln Park Scofflaws.

I know there are many moving parts to the towing and reselling of vehicles by the City of Chicago but wouldn’t it make sense to at least hire a Chicago Company. A simple google search shows “E and R Towing” locates in Markham, Aurora and West Chicago. I know there were several articles on who owns E and R and what a lucrative contract they have but can’t find it. This is just another example of a private company marking millions of dollars without the city getting their fair share. #parkingmeterdeal #skywaydeal.

The city should have some consistency in their writing tickets and there is no such thing as parking illegally in a street sweeping zone. Tickets were issued on Warren Blvd and there was no street sweeping there. This makes it look as if the driver was irresponsible which was false. More silly corruption in the crook country.
