- While Chicago police detectives were zeroing in on two suspects in the fatal shooting of a woman who died protecting her baby, officers in downstate Champaign were already setting up surveillance at one of the suspect’s homes in an unrelated drug case.
With two police departments closing in, it wasn’t long before Michael Washington, 39, and Eric Adams, 23, were both taken into custody just hours after the brazen, daylight attack that killed Brittany Hill, 24, as she held her 1-year-old daughter Ja-Miley.
The child was unharmed as were three men who were with her in the 1200 block of North Mason Avenue in the North Austin neighborhood on the West Side.
We leave the description of mom "protecting" her baby aside - we've seen the video - she didn't.

Who came up with the “day for a day” policy that allows a person convicted of a crime who is sentenced to 20 years to only do 10 years or less if he behaves. This should go away immediately. I believe in giving breaks, but only having to serve 1/2 hour sentence allows criminals to game the system. Non-violent crimes can be “day for day,” but all violent crimes serve 85%.

It was tragic and horrific. I guess I am glad to be able to still feel and havn't completely numbed myself from all the bull$hit I've seen over the many years.
Are the members of the Illinois Department of Correction's Parole Board mathematically challenged? But they are a necessary evil to save taxpayers money. I recall several Police Officers slain in the line of duty by violent parolees who were released early. Factor in law abiding God fearing good contributing citizens who were victims of heinous crimes by those who should remain in custody.
I believe the Parole Board is good at math. An appointment is worth a substantial check and eligibility for a lifetime pension. Do not forget they are saving money for taxpayers by unleashing and releasing violent criminals to get that second chance at committing more violent crimes to add to their criminal resume.
The findings from their early release hearings should be published as a matter of record. What justifications and legal rehabilitative justice reasonings could possibly warrant the early release of these animals back into society? Good people are at risk too as these predators roam the city at will. One can conclude that the parole Board is a rubber stamp for early release and may not have a lawful, order society's best interests in mind.

When I first started in law enforcement, I was told that “5% of the people cause 95% of the problems”... I think, based on my observations, that it’s more like 1% causing 99% of the problems, at least when it comes to felony crimes.
As long as “the community” won’t summon the collective courage to turn in the 1% that’s doing the shooting, robbing and stealing, they will continue to live in chaos. In every state that has legalized weed, there still is a very strong street drug trade for weed. The reason? Taxes and fees. In some of the Western states they produce much more marijuana that their particular state could consume and the excess goes for illegal export. The highway from the legal states is US 88 that goes straight east. If these morons think that this will raise the use of weed among young people, then I think JB has been smoking it.
