Special Ed announced prmotions coming up in the next two weeks:
- 70 detectives
- 50 sergeants
- a small number of lieutenants
We'll have the lists eventually and hopefully, the number of spots the "merits" jumped.

I would like to see if merit promotions lead rank order promotions in terms of:
Medical abuse
Suspension time
CR Numbers
Lawsuit payouts
Convictions and prison time.
And the CFD is experiencing a sudden rush of promotions and new hires too. It's almost as if Rahm is trying to leave Lightfoot with debt he's been avoiding his entire tenure.
AND don't forget, this month there's a payment due to police and fire pensions for $275 million

This is the most ass kissing unfair promotional structure I've ever seen. Wait until you see whose on the list. It sucks to be you and some of these people have absolutely no fucking experience at all. Its a severe slap in the face

I’ve never been so happy I took a job in the suburbs over Chicago. After we all got screamed at by one of your lieutenants to open a secured alarmed door at your academy we then were told shes going to be a captain and no one can talk to her because her husband is a deputy chief. I may be a “recruit” but Ive got enough time on to know a corrupt organization when I see it. I was embarrassed for CPD to hear a full uniform lieutenant screaming “I’m a mother fucking lieutenant of police open this goddam door” and then walk away when the alarm rings and instructors start running. In that one moment I realized all the stuff posted on here is probably true.

I work someone who is up for merit, I will be the first one to complain about these merit hacks that have been made and never did a any police work. This person who I worked with for the past decade is the real deal, worked the street , good PO who knows what time of day it is and is a good all round person I have never hear a bad word spoken about this person. I hope this person makes it but I do not see it happening because this person actually knows what to do and as we all know merit is all about who you know and blow. It would be a shame if this person didn't make Sgt because they would make a good one

To those that will be promoted because of who they know, whose relative they are, whose political friend "put in the word"......learn the job you are being GIVEN, know the orders, learn how to LEAD......to do less is to fail in the responsibility being given to you.
Merit used to be “hushed”, now they publish the connected, er merit, and the “nominator”. The nominator is usually a connected friend, owes a “favor”, or is a pasty and is told by the higher-ups who to nominate. RARELY, is a merit who actually deserves a promotion and nominator a decent boss who sees leadership qualities in the officer.

SCC... why is there no mention of the NO CHILDREN addition to the St Jude order this year? Not like we can take part in “take your child to work day” unless you’re a house mouse. This is one of those proud moments to share with the family and on such a somber day, joy is shown in the faces of those kids walking or carried by their parents, the heros!! Don’t let the door hit you and your mustache on the way out there Kevin Ryan.
Doesn’t New York have an outside agency come in and give promotional tests? That would resolve many problems. I had no respect for test cheaters. If you have to cheat to get promoted ... you are a scumbag. Merit is like selling your soul..they own your ass.
Well there are the ones in the first group that got some or all of the answers. Than there are the connected who get merit based on what ever. And now finally comes the people who worked hard and studied for the their promotions.

Can we get a thread on the bad decision to ban children from St Jude, and then the last minute change letting them march with FOP? I’m a supervisor, I’m not a member of FOP, and I’m not going to let my boys march with strangers. They were going to march with my husband and his district.
Are the Supt and First Deputy so out of touch with their employees that they don’t understand police families? The goal of the march is to support the families of deceased officers. We do that AS FAMILIES!

Went every year now I’m totally done the bosses can merge them selves idiots morons gold star assholes we should be marching on Michigan Avenue anyway not some out-of-the-way place so close we could just walk or be pushed into the lake that’s bullshit they have all these marches downtown Michigan Avenue all these places get we cannot honor our dead the proper way.
I am not a related note why is Phil Klein drawing a six-figure salary plus a car with a memorial foundation begging us for more more money I understand he pays out but how much money is he taking and how many people around him are also taking and stealing how much of a crew does he have he already has a six-figure Pension for being superintend it now we need more.

So 500 off the list means 150 merit not to mention another 100 or so that had a “study guide.” In my opinion they are just getting to those who deserve and appreciate a promotion. Regardless they should be offering tests every 2-3 years.

Please promote Saadia Carter to Captain! She is the smartest lieutenant on the job! Those recruits who she made set off the security alarms should understand that like Escamilla was doing a CAPS pilot program, she was running a Homeland Security pilot program of how to pretend a terrorist or a brain dead lieutenant was attacking the Academy! Chicago needs Captain Carter!

The sad thing is there are only a couple that have been promoted by score in our command ranks. And no cheating doesn't count either. Think about that, almost all of our "leaders" were incapable of passing a single promotional test. Let the killing season begin. Time to rehash old strategies that never worked and repackage them as their own. And a side note, ran into the 011th district commander. OMG, in way over his head. Clueless, and has no idea how to do this job. How about the best person for the job? There's a concept.

2-3 years is very realistic. If that was the case, mostly merit hacks and cheaters would be promoted. Personally, I think the list is at a position where guys who studied the orders or have the experience are getting made. I’m fairly certain it’s no secret that a fair amount of individuals study the test, some people study the answers, some are coached while most people are left to suffer studying the departments suggested study material.
I'm sure these lieutenants will be going to 025, since every lieutenant that was there prior to Escamerit has bailed. Hope you are "team players "...(feel free to ask former lieutenants what that means).
When are hurry going to tell us what is required for a merit promotion? I thought the concent decree said that the merit process has tho be more transparent and have the parameters explained.

After an interview for Tact at the DC's request because you bring in felony part 1 arrests, or the interview for OCD because you now work work tact for a different DC and bring in some decent seizures or search warrants, guns etc or when you notice that Lt you worked for is now in VCD and you see him cutting his lawn on Sunday and ask if he needs help cutting the grass or in VCD because you have had enough of 15 years in the same district, The Answer is Always the Same, Do You Have a Phone Call You Can Make, hell no I just work, guess I'm the fool or tool.
Punk ass Johnson needs to call Eric Carter who should at best be a Lt.and his simple Ass wife into his office and straighten them both out. ERIC is an embarrassment and can't run a simple planned event. That's why they call Georgas back for every major event. I agree. Kids being held by parents in full dress uniform while marching looks as unprofessional as our our uniforms in general. Makes the march look messier

In the early 1960's they promoted 750 in rank order from the sergeant's list.
I just hope the announcement coincides with a recruit class coming off of their 18 months. We could lose 3 on our watch, and considering how few POs we have, that is a significant number. PPOs we're flooded with, but when you can't man even one wagon, there's a problem.....

Ok. Before you go insulting and correcting someone, know the facts:
20% merit for Detective (still FOP.)
30% Sgt and Lt.
so for every 10 2 are promoted. Meaning 50 off the list means a class of 40 off the list and 10 merit. Class of 100 is 80 Test, 20 merit. Etc.

What’s your point? They have a test and rank everyone from 1- 3,000 (or how many took the test) then they promote from the beginning. There are many retires as this becomes a less desirable job, therefore they go deeper into this list then recent years. So if your say 500 that some how makes you “dumb?” Because you didn’t have the answers. Because you weren’t invited to a secret study group. Because you didn’t pay for Bernstein. Because maybe you were working side jobs to make a better life for your family.
How about you enjoy your pension and keep your “dumbass” comments to yourself. We have enough people hating on the police we don’t need it from within.
Might want to look over your numbers to see how the merit system really screws with the list.
Say you are at 100, it means at 30 (30%) and you get made right? WRONG
They make a class of 50: 35 list 15 merit
They make a class of 50: 35 list 15 merit (already got that 30 merit and only 70 on list)
They make a class of 39: 28 list 11 merit
So at 98 off the list they are already at 41 merit and still haven’t gotten to 100.
Bunch of haters on here talking about being “deep” in the list when people have been passed over by about 200 less deserving individuals. As the blog has pointed out, most of those merit selections have come from THOUSANDS deep on the list to hop the line. The actual test scores of the list people promoted in the past 2 years would be marginally different, within a couple percent. Plenty of good people can still be promoted in lieu of the fact the department can’t run a legit regularly scheduled testing format.
It seems no matter what though, there will always be unhappy people to bitch. Look at these comments above that are now complaining about rank order promotions.

When I was in the Military I had bosses that you are talking about. Everything you do ask them for their ideas. When given do THEIR orders exactly as told. Then when asked why say that is what the Sgt, Lt Capt, or who ever told me to do it that way. Love it when the General asked question. Now that was a show

News flash: the exams are not real. For if they were, the grading process would be transparent. Who grades them, where are they graded, and how are they graded? If anyone can answer that, they deserve a promotion.

@@ do some math genius. They haven’t even announced a date for the test yet. Let’s say that they announce a date tomorrow for a new test. The normally give about four month to study after the study guide and date are announced. So that would put it in September. If it’s anything like all prior tests then it will be two parts. Last sgts test had 2.5 months between part one and part 2. So that puts part two in the beginning of December or end of November. Like last sgts test, it took just over 6 months for the results and score of the exam with a new rank. If that held true then that would put it in May or beginning of June which is another year from now. Between now and next May they will make another two classes easily. They are down sgts now and there will be the usual retirements coming up this year, January and next April. More classes is a guarantee.
3 more classes of 50 each (105 from list) ???

I personally know many merit picks that were submitted but will never get it. Hard workers who actually get recognized by their first line bosses ...who will never have the juice to get made. Why put these workers in for merit if they don’t have a chance? And if they do, be subject to ridicule because “all merit picks are hacks?” The system is broken and will never get fixed...as long as CPD brass in involved with the decisions ..
I know one of these merit picks who didn’t get it. She is a 20 year female who kicks ass on a regular basis. She works harder and smarter than most guys on her team. She always leads in activity, and if not, she’s up there. She’s been in the shit hole units that “used” to be citywide. She is no Nonsense and a cops cop and helps whenever possible. She’s all business, and sometimes that rubs guys the wrong way. She will throw down with a punk and can handle herself better than some guys i have worked with. Of course she didn’t get it, because some secretary did...merit picks are only legit if they are earned...not masked in political favoritism. If the new mayor wants to make change....start with revamping the merit system to include activity based promotions along with historical reference and work...you do this , only street cops will get it. Not hacks and secretaries...
