New York Post has an article about the city's mayor and police commissioner screaming about a rising 3% crime rate. As of April 30 in NYC they had 88 murders for the year over 86 last year. OMG. And we had 62 in April alone?
Congrats to Supt. Johnson and Chief Staples on the 8.6% murder clearance rate. Only 91.4% of the killers get away with murder in this town.

Yes someone with some analytic skills please breakdown the murder clearance rate. I would venture a guess that 90% of the murders are “gang related” and when they’re gang related “nobody saw or knows nothing.” The only thing CPD could do with these cases is work the evidence, however our Crime Lab is archaic. We need to sink millions into new equipment and training our ET’s and Forensic people. It’s long overdue.
Less than 10%.
That’s a national embarrassment.
A large part is “the community” rarely, if ever, cooperated with the police during their investigations.

Wow and The detective division is making unlimited overtime somebody’s guys are making almost $300,000 a year how many hours does that translate to that means they work every waking hour and some even have take-home cars is in that night. The problem is obvious. There are not enough Deputy Chiefs under Chief Staples’ command to get things done.

In all fairness, a big part of the low homicide clearance rate is that “the community” has its own “code of silence”. The same folks who will scream and protest when a black gang member is shot and killed by police become strangely silent when asked to name the “community member” who killed one of their family members. I’ve heard them say - repeatedly - “that’s YOUR job”....
I remember a few years back there were some “community” rallies where reverends and mothers pleaded with “the community” to stop killing each other, but that philosophy doesn’t mix well with the focus of “black lives matter” on police shootings (ignoring that the police are responsible less than 2% of the isolent deaths of black people).
If I may paraphrase a line from “Animal House”: “They can’t kill our people; only WE can kill our people!”

They are not rejecting charges they are CI’ing the case with impossible demands

Can anyone from CWB or anyone skilled with using the FOIA - Freedom of Information Act give us some help on researching specific arrests to see if Kim Foxx's SA office prosecuted the arrestee in anyway?
I'm trying to find prosecution (not) information regarding a (Black AA) young man involved in a 2/1/2019 armed robbery of a video store on the South West Side, he and his robbery crew then led Chicago Police on a 100 MPH car chase that ended on the University of Chicago Midway where the perps sideswiped many parked cars (59th and Woodlawn), the suspects fled on foot and triter to hide in U of Chicago classrooms. They were caught and led off by Chicago PD and U of Chicago PD in handcuffs. The U of Chicago Maroon campus newspaper published the photo of the perp being led off in handcuffs - this caused a huge uproar with predictable protests of "RACISM". The newspaper soon took the photo down.
So, I'm interested if the arrested suspect has been prosecuted or just let go on probation, given free college tuition etc.

The rate is updated everyday. It is recorded daily and there are TWO components associated in the recording that make up the clearance rate. FIRST: the 2019 murders. SECOND: murders that have occurred PRIOR to 2019 often referred to as “ old murders”. So, let’s do the math so we understand and don’t sound like firemen...
As of today...
01Jan2019 thru 04 May 2019: 138 murders have been committed in Chicago.
(16) murders of the 138 have been cleared. (7) by Central, (3) by North, and (6) by South.
138 murder 16 cleared= 11.59% cleared BUT this 11.59 is not the cumulative percentage that counts.
NOW, here is the part people misunderstand... the FBI Guidelines also include murders committed prior to 2019 but are cleared by detectives within the 2019 calendar year. So, how are CPD Detectives in this category? (62)- yes, between 01 Jan thru 04 May CPD Dets have cleared an additional 62 murders.
The FBI Guidelines then require both the current 2019 clearances (16) be added to the old murders cleared (62)= (78) total cleared murders as of 04 May. Finally, divide the 78 total cleared into the 138 committed murders... you get 56.52% clearance rate. That’s not CPD CAPS math, that’s the FBI guideline.
Staples & Co.stocked the detective division with hacks, yes men, called in favors, inexperienced and incompetent supervisors. Who is going to teach all these new detectives how to detect? Them? There aren’t enough seasoned dicks to mentor and teach the intricacies of the job. But that’s what happens when the people in charge making these decisions are themselves hacks, etc.
Fuck it! We’ll just point fingers and keep on making excuses! Truly fucking pathetic and embarrassing!

The benefit of investigating homicides, is that if you have the ability do your job well you have the satisfaction of doing what few can do. The downside over the long term is that various "legal" groups will be after you for years with their wrongful conviction claims which can haunt you in retirement.

first, per a previous post, the clearance rate on drug crimes, prostitution, etc, is near 100%. Do you really think people who won't be witnesses for murder are more likely to be witnesses for the dealers and whores?

Dude, this is Cook County. If they were arrested and charged on Feb 1, 2019 that case won’t be resolved for about 2 years.

Com’on eveybody knows permanent tourism is WAY up! In Crook County, we have masses and masses of illegal immigrants coming here for tourism. Once they see how crime free and low taxed we are, they choose to stay; hence, permanent tourism is way up. They definitely stay b/c our benevolent leaders give them free housing, free food, free education, free college, free healthcare ... who the fuck would not stay?
