Big Oops

Great job by the ATF again:
  • ATF agents across the country have been working to track down thousands of guns and firearms parts that had been seized by law enforcement and were supposed to be destroyed but were stolen first, according to sources familiar with the effort.

The agents are searching for some of their own retired service weapons as well as guns from other federal law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and DEA.

All of the weapons had been sent to the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives' National Firearms and Ammunition Destruction Branch in Martinsburg, West Virginia, to be shredded, according to court documents and congressional letters.

A longtime guard at the ATF facility has admitted to carting off thousands of firearms, gun parts and ammunition and selling them over several years.
What types of guns?
  • According to the report, a contract security guard at the facility has been stealing federal property since 2016, including automatic rifles, semi-automatic handguns, Glock slides, magazines, and scopes. The ATF is being cagey about how many firearms the guard stole, but his plea agreement indicates that he nabbed at least 3,000 Glock slides, over 4,000 firearm parts, fifteen rifles, eighty handguns, and nine NFA Class III firearms.

The ATF hasn’t said how many of the firearms and parts it has recovered, but the Journal Sentinel reports that the stolen firearms have been recovered across the country, in Mexico and the Caribbean, and at crime scenes. All 25 ATF field offices have been tasked with recovering the firearms.
Great. Just great.

This would not be a problem if the lovely ATF would merely donate all items to the NRA.

The NRA could then distribute to the impoverished the means to avail themselves of their Constitutional Rights.

The NRA would be much, much more trustworthy to determine the fitness of both each individual item and the recipients thereof.

This policy of automatic destruction of still useful tools is blatantly elitist!!!

Why, many good homes are awaiting the opportunity to adopt one of these misused, abused and misunderstood tools, of which none are to blame for their aforementioned misuseage.

Waste not, want not.

What does the atf do?

"The mission of ATF is to protect communities from violent criminals, criminal organizations, the illegal use and trafficking of firearms, the illegal use and storage of explosives, acts of arson and bombings, acts of terrorism, and the illegal diversion of alcohol and tobacco products.Sep 9, 2014
Department of Justice (.gov) › jmd"

The premier law enforcement agency for firearms and they can't keep track of the firearms in their facility. And hiring outside security to guard the place was their first mistake. Why didn't they have sworn ATF agents securing the place. Everybody that worked there should be fired for allowing this to happen. Will we hear next of Mexician Cartel members working in the DEA inventory & recovered narcotics facility?

It wasn't thousands of guns. It was slightly over one hundred guns. The Nine NFA guns are probably the worst, as full auto weapons are NFA. So are short barreled shotguns and rifles.

I wonder what the other 4000 parts were? Barrels and hand guards (no biggie) or drop in autosears?

I know someone who bought some of those pistol parts- were sold on eBay. Dominion Defense i believe the Company name was. ATF from Downers Grove stopped by his house to retrieve the parts, they got his info from Paypal.

Military routinely sells sensitve items for scrap that must be scrapped by winning bidder on-site and supervised. Stuff like armored vehicles and such. Sytems are already in place for these type if sales. Somebody sure screwed the pooch.

Unlike municipal or state law enforcement, Federal Agencies, especially under Democrat Administrations are Above the Law. This incident is known as a "Gun Walking" disaster , and not the first by ATF. In 2009 the ATF purchased and distributed at least 2,000 firearms to Mexican Cartels under an Operation called "Fast and Furious". The weapons were supposed to have concealed GPS devices so they could be tracked and the Cartel gunmen located. However, the brilliant bureaucrats behind the scheme, failed to take into account the battery life of the GPS devices, so thousands of firearms went Unaccounted! The Attorney General at the time was the Racist, Eric Holder, and he was brought before congress, and held in Contempt for his failure to cooperate. Last week, Uncle Joe Biden said the Obama Administration had No Scandals, he apparently forgot this one. Some of the weapons have turned up in homicides on both sides of the Border. One of these weapons killed a U.S. Federal Agent, and another may have been used in the murder of a second Federal Agent. The weapons have been found at the scenes of literally Hundreds of shootings and homicides in Mexico, by Fast and Furious weapons have further strained relations between Mexico and the U.S. NOBODY IN THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION LOST THEIR JOB OR WENT TO JAIL OVER THIS ABUSE OF POWER. The individual in the Blog cited case was a Contractual employee, so he is expendable and will be punished and made an example. Never Forget: There are Different Rules for Different People. Father Michael Pfleger tells Sneed there’s been new fallout stemming from Minister Louis Farrakhan’s incendiary speech last month at St. Sabina Church, which drew rabid criticism from members of the Jewish community for “anti-Semitic” remarks.

Renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma’s third annual St. Sabina Concert for Peace sponsored by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and initially scheduled for Saturday night was canceled two weeks ago, according to Pfleger.

“This was an event that was supposed to draw people together,” said Pfleger.

“This had been a two-year-in-a-row concert, a celebration of love and unity and peace. I am very hurt and disturbed this happened,” said Pfleger.

Need a FOIA of ATF asking the locations where these stolen guns and parts have been recovered?

I will bet my retirement check the Criminal area called Cook County had a few!

I retired from the firearms lab and we had plenty of serial numbers come through that were traced to gun destructions outside of City!

They have been hiding these stolen firearms cases since many of these weapons have been used in reported crimes!

But now it makes sense why ATF would not reply to gun inquiries on certain cases? It may have been weapons ATF already seized.

It’s how every gubmint agency and major companies succumb to political pressure to create “jobs”.
Whether it’s UPS, Amazon, contracted shippers, rental car facilities and even the railroads have seen unheard amounts of property loss.

Funny how we have civilian lockup keepers, property custodians, record snooping accountability investigators, yet only sworn CAPS desk clerks.

Glock slides and lower parts kit are prime commodity because a $100 80% glock frame can be purchased without FFL paperwork and turned into pistol using dremel. Same with AR-15 and a drill press.

And they know if they are caught they will just flee the country back to their foreign area homes, without arrest or prosecution. When I worked at a government agency we had an Armorer that would deliver our guns to the range, wait there all day, then return the with guns to the Armory at the end of the day. He never brought the correct guns, not one time, although he was given a list by serial number at least two weeks in advance. I'm talking about 10 M4s, 10 pistols. Not a whole lot. After three years of this, the big boss came out to the range to shoot and watch training. The Armorer forgot to bring the bosses gun the only time he came to the range. The Boss went nuts and complained to higher. How does the government fix this debacle? Well, the Armorer's supervisor would have to load the guns with him and go to the range and sit there all day as well. She was making 100k+. the Armorer was making about 60k. That, is how taxes are spent at Federal level. Never fire the incompetent, just add more, higher paid, incompetent people. They still forgot to bring the right guns.

Cops go to a LOT of trouble trying to take guns off the street and risk their lives prying them away from felons. Citizens jump through many hoops: FOID, waiting period, background check, NCIS, etc to legally buy guns.

The ONE Federal Agency that really should understand guns seems to be leaking them on the streets with no paper trail almost like they want them to be misused by violent criminals. One nobody security guard is the scapegoat, not a single Agent catches heat for this major, major breach in the chain of custody. Where else can you screw up this bad and not get canned or go to prison?

It's almost as if they want to accelerate gun problems so they have an excuse to confiscate them. Every Communist regime has confiscated weapons.

Yup.

Decades ago workin ghetto tact, 2 ATF Agents were assigned to ride along with us. A few hours into our tour, we came upon numerous Latin Kings engaged in a skermish of sorts in the middle of a side street we were driving down. We all hopped out and detained about 10 of them for the usual razz-matazz. ATF boys searched a few of them, myself and a partner searched a few. In the process of the usual name checks , contact cards, and field interviews, myself and partner got suspicious of a couple of the detainees and decided to re-search the LK's the ATF boys searched previously. Sure enough, a .44 Bulldog revolver was found in the waistband of one of the LK's we re-searched. Not saying ATF guys are NFG, but these guys just come from lackluster federal training and many do not grasp the whole concept of ghetto policing. They had cool fed toys, night vision scopes and the most modern handguns, but are naieve when it comes to this shit. Apparently they have not changed much in several decades. So just be careful and do not assume anything. Most are good people, but anyone can make mistakes, even the almighty Fed Agents.
