I-290 Cameras

What took so long?
  • Some 20 cameras have been put into operation in the last several weeks along the Eisenhower Expressway on Chicago’s West Side in an attempt to crack down on drug trafficking — and the violence that comes with it — along what authorities have long called the “Heroin Highway.”

The announcement — by public safety officials at a news conference on an Eisenhower overpass — comes as federal, state, county and city law enforcement grapple with waves of overdoses caused by the powerful painkiller fentanyl mixed with heroin and other substances.

The cameras have been installed along about a seven-mile stretch of the Eisenhower — from downtown to Oak Park — due to the expressway’s notoriety as an access route for drug users from the suburbs and elsewhere to travel to the West Side for their fix.
The police can't profile drivers. Being from the burbs isn't a crime. If they flee, we can't chase them.

Well, that problem is fixed! On to the next one.

This is great news. No more patrolling highways anymore. Cameras have it all covered. All those cameras in abla sure stopped that massacre. I’m sure these cameras will stop all drugs from coming in and out of the city

Gee this was genius move thought up by none other than ex merit boss Roti. You mean to tell me the most qualified guy to run Hidta was ex cpd that never passed a promotional exam. And to top it off he brought that idiot Anagrone to help him out. The two of them together dont even have half a brain. No wonder Chicago continues to be the main hub for drugs in the country. These two idiots couldnt find the Heroin highway if el chapo drove them to it.

And how exactly are these cameras supposed to identify drug traffickers that cellphones dont all ready do. Waste of money. How do detectives request the video for other investigations? Probably will have to jump thru hoops.

Yes more cameras will definitely solve the drug problem....just like they solved all the other problems in the city....SCC does anybody keep any kind of numbers on the crimes solved due to the cameras??? Like how many murders have been solved? How many drug arrests? How many false reports of hate crimes....ROTFFLMAO!!!!!
democRATS spending money they don't have, on shit we don't need, solving problems that don't exist with results that don't justify expenditures, raising taxes to fund these wasteful pork projects which benefit certain peoples pockets OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND AGAIN!!!

Transparency here?
Now much did cameras cost? Open bids?
How are they monitored? There has to be some AI behind
this: plate readers, ect.
Is this just a big P.R. show?
I've worked in a hospital that had a camera in the narcotics
dispensing room. Funny thing, I learned thru scuttlebut that
the camera was non-functional for an extended period.
Only management and the supervisor knew. But word gets
around. Due to budgetary restraints, they had to wait until
next fiscal year to get repair funds.
Due DOT cameras always work? Most are online now, but
how many times have you tried to monitor traffic flow only
to find that camera was "down?"

I love the post about Roti & Angerone ... could not be more true ! Didn’t pass a promotional test between the two of them . That is at least 3 for Angerone if he wasn’t a Captain and 5 for roti. Four testable promotions for free. Same for Roti’s Godson that was dumped from FBI task force, he is waiting on that merit Lt. Bump too. All of it is disgusting . Roti is an arrogant fuck as well.

Vanecko Camera Co?

Honestly, who really believes that any criminal gives a crap if there's a camera or not? If ole boy is afraid of facial recognition and license plate readers, they'll just have someone else drive it, and get a ghetto temporary license plate to run up the highway... or something else to beat the system....

Cameras only tell you what happened after the fact... so this is going to be a total waste of money - again

Next year they are going to televise and have an award ceremony for the best crime captured on the CTA with related awards, i.e. Best Costume/Hoodie, Best Supporting Accomplice, Best Court Defense, Best Visual Effects (sideways gun etc) Best Felony Revue Disapproval of Charges, Best Media Film Editing, Best Escape Car Chase Crash, Best Chicago Lottery Family Payout.
Watch for it next year on a local Chicago station, 'The Crimees.'

Cameras on expressway will be used to identify Claif or Az license plates. Quick computer cross reference and you know quite a bit.

Make the stop and seize $500k in cash. It isn't about stemming drug supplies, but about creating revenue. Will County just pulled $400k from a car for failure to signal.

Follow the money.

It for the dope heads and the problems they bring.
May as well legalize recreational harr’ron.

I’m pretty sure it’s just some politicians cousin has a stockpile of obsolete cameras were sitting in a dilapidated warehouse owned by another politicians nephew that was able to convince J-B Toilets and the ISP to buy the lot ...at a generous markup.

Just like the proposed FOID fee increase, nothing to address the root of the problem. Take a page from all the illegal crossing cameras along the southern border, all they got is a images of droves of feral coming in without any penalty.

Can’t publish images of johns arrested along Mannheim, ACLU is balking, so it’s likely the bright idea was just a ruse to spend money on some politicians kids wedding or graduation.
And anyway, where will they prosecute these camera images, at video court? It won’t be Cook County that’s for sure.

I will say one thing about Tollway cameras, they work darn good and make sure they’re getting every nickel they can from IPASS holders that actually pay. As anyone who pulls any boat across to WI will know. Tried many times to scoot and bunch up between semi tractors to hide a skimpy pop up trailer. No dice, they picked up the tag along which is the normal booth rate.

Read that Democrats with all their progressive agendas could turn IL into Red in 2020. Apparently the masses outside Cook Co are getting quite fed up lately with all the quacks from abortion laws to church and levies to taxes. Wouldn’t that be nice.

I just guess that I am a skeptic when it comes to liberal democrats and the legislature. I suspect that these cameras are just a test and the prolog for something else in the future; speed cameras on the Interstate. These speed cameras are a common thing in Western Europe. They are on every freeway in France, Germany and Belguim. It is a 350 Euro fine for speeding ( In don't know the grace speed). They even have mobile plate readers in vans . They make plenty of money. I imagine if they actually had speeding plate readers on the Dan Ryan here they could fully fund out pensions overnight. Superintendent Johnson was actually asked about this possibility and he laughed it off as a joke saying that there is no way someone can speed on the Ike.

Looking for some "Color TV," I drifted over to CWB.
To my surprise, there's black yutes stopping traffic at
night, paralyzing a car, then one kid dancing on the hood.
Guys, it's not even the heat of summer, but these kids
are fearless. You got a real problem in Chicago.
First, they defy motor vehicles and the public. Then
they move onto defying the police. Is it any wonder
that their instincts are to "run from police" when trouble
goes down? This is how these kids wind up at room
temperature on a stainless steel table.
Video courtesy of CWB (actually taken by a black male.
I don't know how CWB scored it, unless they sent it over.

Hey know nothing, probably do nothing troll, Roti gets one (1) pension from CPD. Roti was at ISP “for Leo” for about 3 months after he retired from CPD (I’m sure you would have dropped your papers if you could, have you seen the bosses they want now?) then accepted the job at HIDTA, which is a straight salary. I’m sure if you ask most Police Officers at HIDTA, they are glad they have him. I also bet if you ask ISP troops they would tell you they wish they had Leo back. So go back to your hole and get some more sleep.

Suburbanites subsidizing the Black AA West side gang heroin dealers.
