Don't be Lazy

Believe us, we understand the "stay fetal" movement. That doesn't mean be stupid though:
  • No mention about the area noth gangs chasing a hot car then the driver as he fled, tasing him, taking to the hospital then to 19 where he sat in a holding room at times alone until the dicks and victims came out to sign complaints and ID the fool. Once charged and taken to lock up in 19 they (lock up) find a 9mm between the offenders legs. How many hands touched this offender? How many different POs took custody of this offender? How many people could he have killed? On scene, in the hospital, at 19???
Every time a prisoner changes hands or buildings, he ought to be searched as a matter of course. That means, if he's arrested by one officer and searched, then passed to a transport vehicle, he ought to be searched again. If someone else takes him to the hospital, he ought to be searched. When he hits the lockup, he's searched anyway. And we've seen the big transport vans search who bunches of prisoners before they load them up for the court runs....and Cook County searches them again upon arrival at 26/Cal.

Lots of sloppy work done today. FTO’s are worn out and it’s a young Department where the blind leads the blind. Plus we don’t go to court anymore to learn from other officers:cases, testifying, senior officers wisdom, etc.

I guess the consent decree and leaning about trannies via eLearning will fix that.

I always hated touching these foul smelling, diseased goat pizzles, but dude, if one of us gets hurt because you wouldn't search these bad actors, it's on you and the families of their loved ones will not forgive you and will you forgive yourself? Just search these mutts so you and your coworkers can go home at the end of your tour and not the hospital or worse. Bad people do bad things. These are bad people and they're not to be trusted.

After asking the offender....How many officers have searched you, the offender replies "ALOT"! What does that say about us in doing searches? How many of us or anyone could have been killed? Absolutely No Reason for this gross neglect. This asshhole had the weapon shoved up in his nuts. Search People, Search! Use the wand..it may save a "your" life.

About 4 (maybe) years ago we had an incident in which a 16 y.o.a. banger was sitting in the back of a patrol car, hands cuffed behind him, and managed to shoot himself in the head while the LEO was inside with Records.

Zero rhythm for all involved. You must search your prisoners thoroughly. Then wand them. The PPO that found the weapon by hand did his job properly...everyone else should be taking a bare minimum of a week. Luckily we were being watched over.

I used to work in intake at 26/Cal. Keep in mind, by that point the prisoner should have been searched at least 3-4 times. You wouldn't imagine the stuff we'd find down there. Guns, a machete, bolt cutters, etc.

Take the time for a real search.

Priorities way overlooked.
But the Dept is too cheap to buy these for the lockup when they have to spend resources on jungle gyms and cook out weinies.
Rare instance 019 had anyone in the lock up?

These numbers chasers are just that.
Probably 10 people on that arrest and all but one went home by the time Dets were assigned, and for what...a misdemeanor- even for with the gun joe foun’t between his legs?
Of course, the gun wasn't processed, was it?

I’m a dick and I’ll admit I don’t search offenders if a PO brings them into an interview room. This will definitely change. He’ll get searched VERY well and if I find so much as a fucking penny on him, those Officers will be blacklisted by me. I’ll never give them info on picking someone up. Should’ve been searched on the street by A/Os, and again by transport POs, and again in the station for property inventory purposes. And Yes, by me pre-interview. But I gotta say, once he’s in that interview room and if he’s under the light, a found weapon will equal suspensions for all involved. Can’t delete videos! Be safe out there.

We use to teach that in the academy, that being take over a prisoner then search over again that prisoner. Don’t assume anything. That was what the twenty minutes were for after rollcall inspection during home room time. Useful things like take the backseat of the squad out to see if a mope secreted a gun there (personally found three there), one of the officers always stand off center and a little behind the suspect, slap the passenger side rear fender when your partner approached the driver, etc.

You are lucky the offender didn’t decide to shoot you all. Second tact officers have a bad habit of leaving arrestees unsupervised in the holding cells. Another bad practice and a matter of time before a officer gets really jammed up.

Remember the dynamics of an arrest. Your stress level goes down when you think your job is done or near done, but Mr. Shitheads stress level goes up. He may be worried about warrants, actually doing jail time(though not in cook county), having an unpleasant experience at the jail, etc.

Really? Most ftos have under 6 years and took it so they could go to 16 17 or any other slow non ghetto district. If anyone is worn out it's your average PO in the ghetto forced to work with brand new ppos.

But in regards to this search the prisoner if your going to arrest them.

Old Retired Guy, Here, Again !!!
Had to chime in on this issue. Did I blow a few searches ? Yes! Thank God, No One Got Hurt. I Did Learn This. Search The Patrol Car You Will Be Using For Your Tour Of Duty. Search It Well, Pull Out The Back Seat. You "Will" find "Left Overs". Search "Anyone" who enters your vehicle. Search the vehicle, after anyone leaves. Search the Patrol Car at the end of your tour of duty. Search all person's you are transporting, even after they have been searched by the arresting officers. Once in the Station, Have prisoners remove shoes, and all outer clothing. I know you cannot and should not "Strip Search", but come as close as possible. Oh, did I mention, "Shop Lifters" ? They will have contraband. Be sure to handcuff all prisoners to the wall ring. Both hands, cuffed through the ring while you are doing your paperwork. No chance they can grab out at anything.
Please, Be Safe Out There.
