Navy Pier Lost and Found

  • The woman was among dozens of people on Friday searching for lost items at Navy Pier in the aftermath of a chaotic end to Chicago’s annual fireworks show.

On the verge of tears, she explained to staffers at the pier’s lost-and-found that she was scheduled to fly to New York and needed the identification she had lost Thursday night when word of an active shooter spread through crowds pouring out of the pier’s Fourth of July celebration, causing panic and pandemonium.

Witnesses said cries from young children pierced the air. Parents desperately searched for lost children. Hostesses in a nearby restaurant hid under tables. Some people even tried to hide in a freezer and storage area at the restaurant, according to two servers who work there.
We heard, but can't confirm, that they charged people for parking, again, to pick up their stuff. How many dozens of thousands of people went home and told all their friends about their "wonderful" experience at Navy Pier this holiday and swore to never set foot in the city again?

Special Ed and Fred Waller were the usual political toadies:
  • Amid the commotion, private security officers assigned to the event signaled a possible active shooter threat and began telling the crowd to take shelter, inciting a “stampede-like” scenario, said Chief of Patrol Fred Waller. At least 17 people were injured, and 31 juveniles were arrested on disorderly conduct-related charges, police said.

“I was there personally, and I can tell you things were very chaotic,” Waller told reporters. “In the end, there was never an active shooter, and no one was shot.”

Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson was reluctant to criticize the private security guards for apparently sparking the chaotic scene, saying, “We want to err on the side of caution.” He said he planned to talk with them.
Who has the politically connected contract for the Metropolitan and Pier Exposition Authority grounds? And how many ex-exempt members of the CPD are working there as we speak? Media trolls - are you asking these questions?

We're going to have to give credit for this one to all sorts of people, starting with Rahm, and continuing through Crimesha, Tommy, Timmy, Toni, Special Ed, with special appearances by Shortshanks and Groot, seeing as how the buck stops there.

Sounds like the "Kevin Bacon Security Company" had it all under control. All was well! Remain calm!

Hide in the freezer? LOL... Can you imagine if those people had died? Who'd get sued over the 'faulty' freezer then? Just like the drunk nitwit that wandered into the freezer at some downtown hotel...

And paying for parking when you return to get your stuff? Sure. I believe it. Totally the Chicago way. Considering that Dude Inc would easily try to pull a scam that goes along the lines of: "Yeah maing, I gotta get my stuff I dropped when I was here during the thing that happened the other night. Yeah, I was here.... mmmm hmmmmm..." (and that guy and about 900 other scammers who decided to play on people's sympathies in order to scam some free parking...). Because it gets abused, no one gets it anymore. Everyone gets the Tony Soprano discount: Fuck you Pay me!

You can't control the gangs, the shootings.
How can you control a crowd after pyrotechnics?
Q.: Did you receive instructions to turn off Shot
Spotter during the action? Seems like a good time
to pop somebody. That's what happened in
downtown Pittsburgh, but after the "works" were over.
Two teenagers, both with guns, settled a neighborhood
dispute downtown, with plenty of witnesses. Both in
critical condition; one shot in the head. Amazingly, a
fully dressed SWAT team was on site within minutes.

Whenever you are out and about, keep your head up.

Look for the exits, the blind spots, and the places to shelter from weather or whatever.
Watch the crowds, especially the young males.
If you feel uncomfortable, listen to your gut and leave.

The complete lack of communication was amongst the glaring problems, CW6 saying they have no way to talk to zone 4 to share info and request assistance. No interop communications with CFD, FBI, or ISP. Complete gridlock and chaos. Imagine if this wasn't just a bunch of shithead gangbangers? Imagine a small group of terrorists with AK47s, how well trained are CPD officers? Mercy hospital was a complete failure of response, not one patrol officer went in after the shooter, the swat guy was the only officer that fired his weapon. Think about that, that's why they refuse to release any of the tapes, Jimenez and the Lt were the only 2 patrol guys that entered the hospital. This city and department absolutely cannot handle anything remotely serious, navy pier proved that. And you have half the swat team looking to leave. If you don't think the terrorists are paying attention to what happened you are a fool. Chicago just presented itself as an easy target. So Lori, keep up the war on CPD. Time to pull you head out of the liberal progressive communal ass and enter the real world. Otherwise the killing season will continue to explode. Can I get another PCI,idiots.

" Media trolls - are you asking these questions?"

Yes the media will ask questions, but not probing questions, same old softball questions. Do you see how the national media questions Trump, they are vicious and insulting. Why doesn't the local media do that with our own slinky politicians? And who was in control at Navy Pier the security guards or the the Chicago Police. Two characters from CPD "Exemptdom" admit being there, did they have an emergency plan in effect, if something like this were to occur? What did they do if anything? Avoid any venue in Chicago where there are crowds.

Previous to joining CPD for years my friends and I would go down to Grant Park on the 3rd of July early in the morning. We’d bring coolers and spread out blankets and cocktail all day. The fireworks were always crowded and very cool to enjoy our nations birth with people of every race and nationality and celebrate our nations greatness. The crowds dramatically changed for the worse in the 90’s and it had to be cancelled due to the violence. Nowadays even Democratic Presidential Nominees are criticizing the nation as a racist police state that was NEVER great and in turn media antagonizes young kids and gangbangers to even turn one our cities top tourist destinations known worldwide, into a chaotic stampede. The current constraints on the police imposed by a bastardized consent decree further ensure the death of our downtown and tourist dollars. A large part of the blame belongs to the original architect, Chicago’s own Barack Obama culminating in a State Consent Decree which could be rendered illegal by the DOJ. It’s very sad we are all one and better than this.

You obviously do not know what you’re talking about and you are lying. There were a lot of Officers inside Mercy (including myself) while there was still an active shooter. By the time the shooter was down there was a massive presence inside the Hospital searching all 13 floors for a possible 2nd shooter. As far as the response itself, of course we could Monday Morning Quarterback it all day. A lot of misinformation was spread over the radio making it difficult to locate the shooter. Yes, it was a cluster, but don’t tell me we didn’t show up and attempt to engage that @hole.

Why anyone would go to Chicago for any sort of entertainment purposes is beyond me. You hear about all sorts of crime every single day. The mainstream media always plays it down. They had the audacity to report Thursday's occurrence as an "isolated" incident. Isolated incident? These isolated incidents happen every day, every month and every year. People don't realize that they're being fed a bunch of horse --it and think nothing is going to happen to them when they go to the city.

I knew something was going to happen at Navy Pier. How can it not? Just like something will probably happen at the Taste of Chicago, which will be in full-swing next week. Then, you'll have some bozo reporter from one of the local channels interview one of the patrons only for them to naively say, "I just don't understand what happened, this is such a safe neighborhood." Some of the residents have to be dumber than the ones running the city.

I feel bad for the tourists. It's kind of funny, yet sad when you think about it. People will pay between $30 and $50 to park their cars just to get attacked by the local savages. You're actually paying money to become a probable statistic of crime in Chicago. Be smart and stay away from this sewage city. You’re playing with your life when you go there.

He has set a “quota” already for teams.. of course, it’s not on paper but he wants every team in area central to have a minimum of 30 arrests a period. He is a severe micromanager and he is clueless about how police work goes in the year 2019. Sorry Jose.. but it’s not gonna happen. Feel free to TRY and dump every single P.O, Sgt and Lt in all of area central when they don’t do your bidding. Numbers will continue as they are. I think that's why CPD graduations and promos are there. To raise revenue for parking. Nobody gets a pass, and if you show your badge, you get laughed at. Navy Pier is a giant tourist trap.

As far as personal property being there, it's already in the dumpster. I worked at O-Hare for a while. (Worst job ever) and any luggage left behind is thrown away in the dumpster by the police building. (Officially it's inventoried as found property) Wink-Wink

It's not private property. It's a municipal corporation:

The Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority (MPEA) is a municipal corporation created by the Illinois General Assembly. Its Board of Directors is appointed by the Governor of Illinois and the Mayor of Chicago. The Chairman is selected by the MPEA Board.

And Lightfoot is wondering why Chicago’s finances are so bad???? Look at all the top heavy overlapping waste. Unbelievable! This would never happen in the private sector. The CPD has the same problems at the top.

..."It would nice to see CWB FOIA all video on and around the pier from 2150 to 2210 hrs. And how do they not have photos of the culprits."...

7/06/2019 12:30:00 AM

Navy Pier is private property so FOIA is out the window.

7/06/2019 08:22:00 AM

You have Zero Clue here pal. MEPA is NOT a private company. A Cook County Judge rules in March of 2018 that MEPA is not allowed to legally ignore FOIA.

MEPA also manages the city's collection of taxes for vehicles picking up passengers (including limousines, buses, airport shuttles, taxicabs and Uber/Lyft) for O'Hare International Airport and Midway International Airport. So the Security Staff there can not Refuse Entry to City Staff on City Business.

As I understand the MEPA Act.....If Lightfoot wants to make a bunch of money for the City,

She needs to get Springfield to amend (70 ILCS 210/1) (from Ch. 85, par. 1221) and turn 100% City run agency instead of the
shared control of it by the City and the State.

Its Board of Directors is appointed by the Governor of Illinois and the Mayor of Chicago. Its shared municipal property.

I can go into the parking garages there for City Sticker Checks, just like the Garages under Grant/Millennium Parks.

Boy Brian Murphy rocked to Commander on the CPD then he got bored and became commissioner of electricity got bored with that and now he is running security at Navy Pier. He must be the smartest guy in the room.

It’s comical how the loyal ‘news’ programs cover-up the visitors reaction to the Navy Pier Nightmare. They’ll Always seek out an opinion by some ‘west sider’ who tried to enjoy a ‘family night out’ or ‘it was my only day off work liar’ to see fireworks downtown. It’s the ‘west siders’ that exactly ruined the night for the people’s dat ‘no longer feels safe down here.’

GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY!

WE COULDN'T BELIEVE OUR EARS!

Somebody actually TELLING THE TRUTH
about why Chicago is a seething hell hole
full of bad, hateful and wantonly violent
people who rejoice in death and destruction?

That they hold CPD blameless and hold Chicago's
elected officialdom culpable for the violence?

Why in God's Name isn't THIS getting the play
it so richly deserves?

This is OUR story and it needs telling.

Whoever you are...
Nice catch.

Good looking-out.
