About That "Extra Thousand" Cops

  • An additional 1,000 Chicago Police officers will be deployed every night during Labor Day weekend in an effort to curb the holiday weekend’s gun violence.

CPD Supt. Eddie Johnson announced the department’s anti-violence strategies, which range from increased patrols to a series of pre-emptive raids, during a press conference Friday at police headquarters.
  • “These holidays don’t sneak up on us every year,” Johnson said, explaining the rationale behind the increased presence. “What we do is we look at the successes we made from Memorial Day and the Fourth of July. So we’ll be putting, you know, upwards of 1,000 additional officers out there again in a lot of our challenging areas.”

That will include Cook County Sheriff’s officers, federal partners and Illinois State police, making for a “heavier uniformed presence,” Johnson said during the regular “Accountability Tuesday” press conference to discuss crime statistics from the previous weekend.
So now it's all CPD....forget about those sheriffs, feds and ISP people.

Oh, and about those sheriffs? We got this e-mail from someone on the inside:
  • You’d probably be interested to know that in the 015th district, several Cook County Correctional Officers are being sent out from the jail to walk on foot patrol or in a squad to patrol 015 during the day. They have no police powers, no police training, nothing! Body cam and a plastic cheater CPD radio.

They’re part of the Emergency Response Team (“ERT”) under the supervision of juiced-up county hacks Director Richard Brogan, Director Michael Brady, and also Director David Chiko- who happens to conveniently have several lucrative private security contracts- Millennium Park, etc.

Half of the guys they have patrolling aren’t even part of that ERT team- they’re simply juiced up. Talk about putting people in harm’s way. Little to no training, not certified to drive a squad car much less make an arrest, no qualifications and poor backup. Hey Dart, what could possibly go wrong?....

Best part? When the actual Sheriff’s Police Officers do show up, they were told my the top CCSPD brass, namely 1st Deputy Chief Brian White, to “Do not get involved. Don’t do shit. You’re there for a presence, not for productivity.”
So are they just there for the overtime? Because with fake radios and no training, they're walking lawsuits waiting to give away taxpayer money.

Just to be clear to anyone who is not CPD, these “extra 1,000” bodies are over worked officers getting days off canceled. CPD has been without a contract for years. Guys and gals, stay fetal, stay safe. Go home to the family.

pay overtime rates to guys on their day off and let straight

late cars! Keep bringing in TVB’s and you are considered a

SCC: other loophole is if the CO is also deputized (ID would read Correctional Officer/Deputy Sheriff) the CO would have arrest powers despite not having the state mandated law enforcement officer certification. But you're right - the liability is ridiculous.

AND A CAST OF THOUSANDS!

Maybe the Mayor and the Superintendent are trying to emulate the father of the American cinema, legendary director and producer, Cecil B. DeMille who produced lavish blockbuster movies like Cleopatra, The Ten Commandments et. al. They were big budget, of epic scale and had enormous numbers of extras. His movies were always billed in the trailers as “with a cast of thousands.” Every time I hear our leaders say they are are going to put thousands of police on the street I think of DeMille. So where will they get all these “extras” ( police officers), from MGM, Warner Brothers, Paramount, 20th Century Fox Central Casting?

If FOP wont step up how about the EEOC complaint.

It’s actually over a thousand. If you read the orders that came out they’re asking for 32 per district per day. That’s 704 bodies per day. Plus about 300-350 cancelled days off plus PPOs. It’s over a thousand if you do the math. How much productivity you will actually get well that’s a whole another story.

The former correctional officers that I went through the academy with said the training was nearly identical with the exception of IVC training. They are all deputized and have full arrest powers while on duty. In addition many have had crossover training and are dually certified. BTW, many suburbs have people doing the same thing with as little as 40 hours of firearms training. I imagine the areas around the jail are considerably quieter with the added presence.

It sounds like the “insider” with the county is a guy who was passed over for the OT gig. All the cook county c/o’s do,
especially the elite “civil process” unit who go around in plain clothes and unmarked cars to serve divorce papers, is tell everyone how they have completed the “c/o to p/o” transition course and they are police officers. It’s just a weird coincidence that they are on the c/o bargaining unit, pay scale, and union (I believe it’s the same as the janitors union). But they are police. Just ask them. With no field training and zero arrests for an entire career.

Didn’t cook county corrections officers somehow get the authorization by the sheriff to carry off duty? So you see, that makes them police officers. Again, just ask them. When they pay at McDonald’s they’ll let that 12 inch, 3 lb badge flop out of their wallet and hope to confuse the 16 year old at the register enough to get a free soda. (I realize that the Keesing Bandit almost got a case of the vapors until that sentence got to the word “badge”).

That doesn’t change the fact that Mr. County Inside Scoop sounds like a bitter little bitch posting his trash talk. This is probably the same asshole who holds his badge out the window when you stop him doing 75 in a 35 and calls you “brother” 6 times during the stop.

Of course, we have assholes doing 114 in a 70...

So untrue. We do not think things are okay on the North Side. It's gotten so bad that most of us don't go out alone anymore. We go out in pairs or in droves so as not to get as singled out. Not sure where you get your info from, but it's untrue. The older residents are moving out of the city, plenty of empty condos all over the city and yet they keep erecting more buildings which are all rentals BTW. This is gonna get really interesting. No more owned units, just rentals.....

Case in point: Mike Ditka (Birthplace: Carnegie, Pa.)
No secret here, Mad Mike almost went BK when he first opened
his Chicago steakhouses. He had massive crowds, but trouble
paying bills, making payroll. Long story short, he confided his
troubles to friends/extended family/relatives back home and they
told him he had an accounting problem, to put it politely.
He brought in non-Chicago crew to monitor the money and guess
what? Problem solved!
Same thing here. Who can you trust?

OFF TOPIC:

For those who have young family members who want to follow them into the profession, but you'd prefer they don't do it in this shithole city: Please be advised that departments all over the great state of Texas are hiring. Law Enforcement is still respected and backed the people in Texas.
My nephew just got hired by the Carrollton Dept. Carrollton's a suburb of Dallas. He'd also interviewed with Frisco, also a Dallas suburb, and was far along in the hiring process.
Unlike here, hiring moves fairly quickly in Texas. It was maybe 9 months from the time he applied, to his meeting with the Chief yesterday. That's right, the Chief actually meets and interviews the applicants. Imagine that.
Dallas is hiring in bunches. Unfortunately, The Dallas PD has the same morale problems as most big city depts. So, I'd advise applying to suburban depts.
We tried to steer my nephew away from law enforcement, but his mind was made up. Much like me, when at 10, I knew I wanted to be a cop and nothing else would do.
I'm honored he chose to follow his dad (State Trooper) and his uncle (CPD) into the law enforcement.
Brothers & Sisters, despite the liberal attacks on it, our is yet a noble profession. And always will be!
My nephew and many like him are proof that there are still young people who look up to us and seek to emulate what we do.

Thanks for your time.

So here’s the deal. Word is Dart has requested funding for 250 more Sheriffs Police in the 2021 budget. This would be done so he can create units on the west side, south side and another in the south suburbs. Now this would more than double the Sheriff’s Police budget. As we all know he has been sending approx 15 guys a day to patrol the west and south side for the last 4 or 5 years. And yes we were told to do nothing. It is like everything else Dart does. It’s smoke and mirrors for p. r. Or in this case more money and patronage. Word is he has the county board on funding this insanity. So when he does what he does like on this weekend. It is all for show. Be safe out there.

401scam you will never be able to retire it will never equal a pension. In 2008 people lost 49% of their 401scam still haven't recovered completely.

8/30/2019 08:23:00 PM
My def comp was 20K under water in 2008, ie, I had contributed to it and my balance had 20K less than I had contributed. Fast forward to today and after a volatile past 12 months, I have 180K more than I contributed and I have moved to 70% cash over the past year. My IRA has a comparable gain but is entirely in equities. The 0bama presidency was a total disaster for our society but 5 of his 8 years had nice stock market gains. One of the reasons our pensions are dying is because they propped up his presidency with very low interest rates. Our pensions invest in bonds and money instruments and they predict 8% investment gains but, they aren't getting them now. I'm old enough to remember 14% mortgages and money market accounts that yielded 10 and 12% interest rates. If you're going to invest your money in the market, it's up to you to investigate just where you're investing your money. With the internet, there's no excuse to not do your research. Read the headlines, watch a financial show or 2. It's your money, you worked to earn it, work a little to make it grow for you. It's not like digging ditches, get off Twitter and watch something that will help make you a dollar or two.

If you haven't made plans about your retirement, shame on you. The news about social security going broke has been out there since the Carter presidency. Our pension problems have been news for quite some time now. Do you trust a politician to fix it? We have a 24 hour news cycle now, if you haven't been discerning a troubling trend for our economy and society for years now, you haven't been paying attention. We're the police, we're supposed to be smarter and better informed than the average dummy out there.

Hey wait a minuet. I thought we were gonna get transparency. That's what the Murder Mayor said on Thursday. Transparency was the buzz word. Remember the $838M budgetary short fall. Groot is no different than the liar Rahm, who stuck her with short fall just a few months ago. She's doing the same slight of hand with the monies. Spending millions of dollars on overtime, cancelling days off and paying for a public scam using correctional officers and others not qualified for the mission.

Remember this folks, Groot and the city owns the $838M short fall. They mismanaged and stole the money. We don't owe anyone a dime for that money. Groot is telling you that you must pay again for Democratic Socialist economic crimes. She didn't have the "stones" to even name the "criminals" who created this mess.

In her speech on Thursday she told us how dire the situation is and she'll risk her political career to make things right. We don't care about your political career. Your fix for the $838M is built on the citizens back. Your veiled threat about raising taxes, cutting back on city services, hiring freezes and the like don't mean squat. City employees are retiring and leaving this city by the droves. They flee the city while they can still sell their property. We see through you and your bull shit.

You mentioned Sanctuary City and welcoming immigrants, but failed to use the word "illegal" immigrants. Clever little girl. $15.00 p/h for all, to do what-flip burgers. Small businesses will move out and robots don't need $15.00 p/h to flips burgers. You want to do something, how about cutting the Aldermen by half, fire Special Ed and his staff of overpaid Mutts. The real but "untouchable" list of "sacred cows" in City Hall city goes on and on. What are you going to do with the CTU contract. You won't let them strike. You'll pay the %16 and maybe more. Nothing for the Police and their 2 year old expired contract. You'll give in to CTU but hold the line on Police. You throw us scrapes and leave the red meat alone.

Lori, you are no better than Rahm and the Daley's. Build all the casinos and dope facilities that you want. It won't help because Democratic Socialists like you always spend other people's money faster than what you take in. Remember we don't owe the City "jack". You and the other "criminal" Mayor's own the $838M debt NOT us. You spent it and you own it. We are fleeing the City at the first opportunity cause we are publicly debt free.

So, what good will 1000 officers do - even if they were all REAL LEOs with training and arrest powers - if “the community” knows that the will be released on a recognizance bond and the Foxx will drop the charges on Tuesday? It’s turned into nothing more than a dangerous game of “tag”, with guns.

Might as well have all of those extra cops (and pseudo-cops) helping old ladies cross the street and walking people to their cars - nothing will stop the shootings in “the community”.

According to the Cook County Sheriff's Merit Board, correctional officers ARE "peace officers":
http://www.cookcountysheriff.org/employment/sworn-employment-opportunities/

However, due to differences in training and experience, they should have paired up these officers with CPD or CCSPD officers for improved safety and communications on this kind of assignment.

correctional officers on foot patrol? What the fuck are we doing here? I remember a couple summers ago they had the sheriffs police out in numbers on the west side as part of a joint effort. Holy shit, what a bunch of useless goofs those guys were. They actually created more work for the beat coppers cleaning up their messes. The sergeants weren’t happy with them. Needless to say, it didn’t last long. And don’t forget the 2 cook county sheriffs that stood and watched the female copper on the boarder of 011/015 get her head repeatedly smashed into the concrete by a giant guy on PCP. I don’t trust them 1 bit. And that’s the sheriffs “police”, now we are putting the CO’s out there? May God have mercy on the beat coppers of 015. Got to deal with the west side and baby sit these goofs.

Half of these exempts have not been the police. It is kind of scary that they have the inexperienced ones in the best spots. Areas with the most taxpayers are operated by exempts that destroy good areas of the city. Obviously they are trying to keep them out of fast districts to avoid mutiny where homicides occur the most. Has anyone else noticed these problems?

A father charged with attempted murder after throwing his 7-month-old son in the air “like a ragdoll,” according to witnesses, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison.
Quitman Thomas Triplett-Hudson, 32, was sentenced Friday in Lake Superior Court in Crown Point after reaching a plea deal with prosecutors in August. After pleading guilty to neglecting a dependent and resisting law enforcement, Triplett-Hudson wants to “be able to face his son one day and truly be sorry,” said defense attorney Benjamen Murphy.\
In March, a witness told police he was walking through a Gary gas station parking lot when he saw Triplett-Hudson take the baby out of his vehicle and set him in a muddy puddle, before tossing him more than 10 feet in the air and walking off, according to court documents.
“The world wants to know why anyone would throw their child like that,” Judge Salvador Vasquez said.
Triplett-Hudson said that he was high on “wet,” or PCP, a psychedelic that induces hallucinations and feelings of detachment.

well we know he was sentenced in crooked county , tommy had taken him out for pizza

Anybody know the actually amount of days the CITY of chicago has clowned us.

I am talking about the YOU cant take any holidays off.
And it isnt just the holiday it is the week of the Holiday!

Throw in the fake holidays like Halloween and bud Biliken and im guessing 2 months of dates blocked out.

How many days off have been canceled city wide so the city can use us like security gaurds for LALA polozaa.

FOP since the contract talks are pretty much in limbo you still have time to fix the slippery road.

DOUBLE TIME FOR RDO CANCELLATION!
Enforce hire back clause if city is short on manpower CALL it special employment!
They city save on health care/insurances and pensions for hiring less.

let groot have cameras and anybody that wears one receives extra pay a few $ A DAY.
tHINK OF IT AS A FEE FOR GIVING UP RIGHT TO YOUR electronic/digital image for the city to keep forever.

Also every officer should receive an email everytime someone views those images kinda like royalties on a movie. Just think when Laquan went viral and was shown for free all over the NET those officers should be protected and compensated for the images.

Off Topic - An honest question. I just turned on the TV to hear about another active shooter incident going on in Texas. I’m not trolling here, As a civilian I’m just really interested in getting the perspective of law enforcement on this issue. I’m talking about mass shooters who target random people. I know there are multiple shootings related to rival gangs (or drug related) and at least those make some kind of perverse sense - but why this increase in random mass shootings? What is new or has changed? Americans have always owned guns and we have always had people with mental health problems but it never used to be this bad. Respectfully, I would appreciate your opinion.

After Columbine, the media spent months talking about nothing but those two clowns. As much as most people were disgusted by them, there are corners of the internet where those guys are worshipped. So instead of being some loser, now you are famous. Even if most people hate you, it doesn't matter. 30 years ago these people might have been serial killers. That has mostly declined and now they commit mass shootings. So the guns and mental illness hasn't changed, but the Media attention certainly has. That's what my own research into the subject has led me to believe.

It's quite disheartening to see how low some of you think of us.
We have some amazing men and women on patrol, whether external operations or ccspd, and we have incredible man and women working on the inside of the jail that are very professional.

Our jail academy is 4 months of physical training, studying law as well as mental health. No one, not any of the people working in jail thinks we're the police, we're detention deputies and proudly so and to blame us and shit on us for what dart is doing is pretty crappy and stings a little but whatever. I imagine the areas around the jail are considerably quieter with the added presence.

there are plenty of C/Os and D/Ss that are LE certified, LEADS certified, have arrest procedures, etc. Not bad for a wannabe.

Little to no training, not certified to drive a squad car much less make an arrest, no qualifications and poor backup.

Sounds like strong candidates for 5th watch afternoons...

“Not certified to drive a squad car”. Take it easy there super cop. You really think the CPD driving school actually taught anyone anything besides how to take three hour lunches at Chipotle and get sent home early?

There’s a big difference between “certified” and knowing what you’re actually doing. First year teachers are “certified.” There’s a reason they suck as teachers. And proof that the c/o’s know this, is they all take part time jobs for $14/hr in small towns as part time cops and then whisper to me about how they’re the “police too, because [they] work at ___________ “ (insert name of small suburb with lots of part time police, like Dixmoor or somewhere else either in the ghetto or the sticks). And I know this because I’ve dealt with it all the time. They’re the “real police” when they work part time in Robbins or Stone Park. GTFOH.

But thanks for chiming in, wanna-be. Now don’t you have an asshole to go look up? Start with your own, maybe you’ll find your head.

Your response demonstrates a sarcasm class for the unencumbered by the thought process crowd is in order.

Any decent detective would bring his vic to court alright but in a city owned squad car dick head not his personal vehicle. That is the way it always has been.

Could you bring the vic to court in your Crown Vic?

Coming from an ex jail guard; I can say that the training for cook county sheriff's office (corrections) is good, but it's nowhere near the training you need to be a police officer. I know those guys mean well but even though they have "powers of arrest" I can guarantee you that not one of those jail guards can effect an arrest. As for sheriff's police, well I can appreciate the help, however they are used to working in unincorporated towns and patrolling La grange for traffic. I just don't see how having Sheriff's police in the city really helps? I've worked in 006 and most of those guys are just there and really make no difference. At least state police stay in their lane and make their own arrests. I guess that liberal Dart is trying to look good for the public, what a sorry excuse of a Sheriff!
